The Zero FX will easily do your 40 mile commute. Charge at work and head back home. I have a DSR/X with over 6k miles on it and I am loving it. So glad you were pleasantly surprised when you reviewed the DSR/X. It is a great bike, especially for off road and back road adventures. I am thinking about getting an FX for those shorter, more technical rides.
Sadly, I'm still on the fence about purchasing an electric bike or car at this point. Not because they are not awesome, but because I have a 40-mile commute, but being an IT Consultant, I have to go to multiple offices at the drop of a hat with no notice if something goes wrong. I may go 100 to 150 miles in a day. At some point, the infrastructure will be ready so I can charge like I would with gas, but not yet, sadly. That said, if I was to buy one now, the FX would be the one. Not for a commute but to handle so fun off-road riding. Trails and the like would be awesome. Appreciate you for taking the time to share your thoughts. It matters a great deal to hear about owners' experiences, so potentially new buyers will have even more information. Stay safe
I have the ZERO FXS and I get 75-80 miles of real world riding. I do mostly mountain roads and city. I'm a bit smaller than you and I think the smooth tires and lower height of the FXS help. I've had it four years and I love the bike. It's a blast everytime I ride it. It's my first bike and I've wanted one fire years, it didn't disappoint.
It's great to see the real-world miles being shared. It helps others that find the videos to see what others are getting to better help them make a decision. Thank you for taking the time to share that information. I appreciate it!

Has the fire department been appraised of your flight plan?
No, I prefer to live dangerously.
This bike in city limits and city speeds gets close to 100 miles
That is great information to share! I appreciate you taking the time to do so.
Nope
