DISCLAIMER (Of course, I'd have one 😁)
Hey, you might think that this info makes me your lawyer, but it doesn’t and I’m not. Sorry, but I AM NOT YOUR LAWYER unless we have an engagement agreement. I am just providing public information here, like a library does, and am not providing you with legal advice about your situation. So, it would be totally unreasonable for you to conclude we have an attorney-client relationship just because you're viewing this information.
Mike: “You have to by law in every state if it’s under 5 years old.”

yeah pretty sure a bunch of stores would risk not having to accept your gift card thinking you wouldn't bring it to someone higher up and even if they do nothing as well they don't count on legal proceedings
This is where you draw on your inner Karen and ask to speak to the manager
Imagine being sued because some short haired middle aged house wife still had $5.76 on a card you wouldn't let her use
@@grahamlopez3742 it’d cost them a lot of money cause they’d have to fight it😂
I would just get my manager because I wouldn't know how to deal with it.
“Sir, I’m a minimum wage worker. Please don’t fight me, I don’t want to be here.”
Then he should just accept it, if it's the law then do it, it's just more trouble for the poor retailers otherwise

As someone who's been behind the tills when this happens, the tills often decline them at a period set by the company, say 2 years, and there's no override on our end to make it accept it, because it's the company that does this, not the store, you'd legally have to take it up with the company, or call a useless customer support line, and they know by that point you'll probably just accept its more effort than its worth, same with if you remove a warranty void sticker, legally you still have a warranty, but try getting into that legal battle.
To clarify I'm not on their side, but the companies know workarounds to shaft you.
Sounds like you’re in the UK, this would only be applicable in the US and as this law was created awhile ago all tills in the US have been coded to accept them.
@@jackscorner9155 Also usually if the company does that, the employee is supposed to find you a replacement gift card.

Gift cards should never expire, that’s literally the company saying “you can’t use your own money anymore”
It made me cry the fact that he said my milk when he drank it😭
I checked an old target gift card it said their wasn't a expiration date so I keep it

Mike: I can still use the gift card if it's under 5 years
Store employee: he doesn't know I know this hack. Get out the store
“Sir, it’s clearly printed when it expires and our system literally won’t allow an expired gift card. If you want to sue us for the $25 be my guest”
In Canada they legally never expire. Coupons too.
Mike you are entertaining, seem nice and are professional. All love to you and god bless you for all these tips
Man makes saul goodman look even better than he already is
Karen's around the world are so happy
“ the card is expired “
“ I invoke the 2nd amendment “
I like how the dude said "don't tell me what to do"
My man scanned a doughnut🤣
“dOn’T tElL mE wHaT tO dO💅🙄”
Mike looked so cute when he said "hey my milk!" Lol
I guess it's different at other stores, but where I worked it wasn't US that accepted or declined cards, it was the machine. If the card showed up "Expired" on our screen, there was nothing we could do about it.
I wish I'd known this before I tossed 'em. How about reducing the amount over time?
Be careful for viewers outside the US: it does not always work that way.
For exemple in France, it is illegal to put an expiration date on gift vouchers and cards issued by the shop BUT if it's a multi-shop voucher (like Chèques Vacances, Multi-branded vouchers for malls etc) it is still legal to put an expiration date on it and to enforce it.
While you can sometimes get a refund for any late fees on an expired gift card, the federal laws govern them, so they often last for 1 year as on the 13th month they get a katw fee reducing the dollar amount until they hit zero.
Imagine if the shop attendant invoked the fifth🤣
“How to stress out a powerless minimum wage worker in one easy step!”
Well they can find another job. Look I'm sorry they have to get the shit and I've worked these types of jobs, but it is either deal with it or leave. Also if corporate policy is bad enough, then few will work there. It is the way it is
That why dads take that long time to come back home with the milk 😂
"Sir, thats a Chipotle gift card-"
Even if it’s a legality, lots (most) of stores have their own store policies that they can abide by. And 99.9% of this includes not accepting expired coupons, gift cards,or online savings links. The register will literally make it impossible to use even when it is swiped
They store doesn't have too, they'll just tell you to leave.
You just gave karens the law powerplay. I want to contact your manager
Ikr
this dude and his ways of getting us to follow I stggg
I Have over dozen panera bread gift cards that has only one month to use it. And they're expired. I wish someone could sue them and I could benefit from that too
-Yes!
-Yes you should!
*Look into my soul*
fun fact is it’s was actually declared theft because companies were making so much money of people for taking money off gift cards every so often.
This dude is that one npc that everyone loves🤣
And that’s why Mike never came back with the milk.
Please don’t do this though. As an Arby’s employee, if your gift card is empty or expired there is absolutely nothing we can do. The only thing that could/would happen is a manager maybe comping part of the meal but its a huge pain to do and gets us in trouble
When I was a cashier, it would decline if it's expired, we couldn't just, override that
bro is real life Saul Goodman
Working retail, you just made my job harder 😂
The cashier committed a crime.
What you’re supposed to say is “I’ll get my manager/supervisor” then eventually it’ll go to the manager of the store and they’ll have to say no or whatever they want to say. Most gift cards don’t even have expiration dates anymore.
The end is a giga chad moment
Great now I gotta deal with karens with old gift cards
I almost cried when he said hey my milk
If the gift card has a printed expiration date, it expires.
" Yes, yes you should " - Nick wild
Also in states like CA if the gift card is less than $10 they have to give you the cash if you ask for it
Karen is about to go on a shopping spree
In Canada, there’s no expiration date on gift cards
I'm in America I never see an explanation date on them also so I guess it's only a very few stores that have it
Extra knowledge nugget. A ton of different stores have a workaround for this, by making the money on old gift cards slowly go away overtime without using it. So do keep that in mind. That 3 yr old $50 gift card may be empty.
I’ve never had a gift card that expired I didn’t even know they did
It's been going on since gift cards were invented.
Just the thought of the cashier just getting my food lol. Honestly probably they would deserve it for their hard work.
Karens are gonna love this
This explains why my dad isn't back with the milk
Here in California if you have a balance under $10 they are obligated to cash it out for you too if you ask. I’ve had an easy time doing it at some stores but when I worked at Smart n Final they didn’t teach me about it at all. Luckily no one asked me to cash one out in the 3 months I worked in that corporate hellscape.
Damn right before dad was about to come back with the milk💀
I love how he does every lawyers job by screwing over everyone
I've seen a couple of comments about karens discovering this, as though all hell might break loose in such event. As a retail cashier, I'd like to address that concern. For the record, if a karen comes to my register for help, I'm going to treat her like gold. If a misogynist comes to me, I'll extend him the same courtesy. That's my job, and if they're trying to use their gift card(s) within the legal time frame, I am duty-bound to honor those cards. Wanting one's legally defined due is not the same as having an entitlement attitude.
You pull that when I'm working drive-through and I'm throwing your card into the bushes while watching you.
This kind of videos should be made worldwide(at least one lawyer for each country)
This guy is the real saul goodman
Here another way to get free things
"Give me these shoes or I'll blow off my head with a shotgun and blame you" works every time
He sounded genuinely sad when he said “Hey my MILK!”
Better call Saul
If I haven’t used a gift card in 4.99999999 years, I probably didn’t want it anyway
he went to get some milk!! then became a lawyer, never came back
But of course we do! Mike's my hero!
And then mike just went and got another one lol
... a lot of them get disabled after the expiration date. There's literally nothing you can do after they are out of the system.
You have summoned the Karen's
If any Karen with expired gift cards sees this then we are all doomed
Damn, time to pick up all my expired gift cards.
"You have to by la-"
"Get the fuck out of my store or I'm calling security"
At Kwik Trip in the midwest, our gift cards start to use about $2 a month out of whatever balance the card has after a year of inactivity until the balance is completely depleted. So, as the card can register and scan, it will come up as no balance. All in all just use your cards when you get them.
“Yes Yes you should”
This is how to confuse the minimum wage teenager who just doesn’t care
In Tennessee and Maine, 2 years they're considered abandoned property and can be declined
Once had a customer bring in a 10 year gift card and we kept pointing out its expiration date and they weren’t having it.
Plot twist: the milk was also expired
And that's how his son never saw his dad again (still searching for the milk)
Can u do more videos on the johnny Depp case
Mike seems like he could find out how to sue me if I don’t follow.
Yeah that's strange I always wondered about that because if you have to pay cash for a gift card they're honestly should really be no expiration date that you have to use it for. Some states is actually expiration days that's crazy. God bless 🙏👌☺️
Hey cashier, just swipe it. Your employers point of sale system will either accept it or decline it based upon how they programed (ie. authorized) the method of payment.
Poor guy was used to the grind
Karens are gonna have a have so much power now
Man gift cards have such a long time before they expire. If you dont use it in that time limit its your own fault. And should not fight it.
Some places have fine print on the paperwork that comes with some gift cards that say they lose "x" amount every 6mos or yearly until its spent or depreciated away
