Was really fun to see you get into the backing vocals. Definitely interesting to see your 'entertainer' persona on stage as opposed to your 'laid-back bass man at a wedding' type of deal.
A lot of the comments here are cancer. You know what makes a pro musician? One who takes every gig seriously and does service to the song, no matter what the genre is. I have a teenage daughter and our musical tastes are very different -- the stuff which I love leaves her cold, and vice versa. This music you are shitting on is meaningful (in a real way) to a large set of people out there.
I don't understand why they think she's bad, I think she's pretty good, and I've seen a lot of female singers as a producer. Is a children's Book lamer than the works of Shakespeare, because it's more down to earth and popular?
It's so awesome to have these videos to remember these kind of jobs. I did so many cool gigs, probably half of them I can't even remember :(. Good job Adam!
That was...strange, in a really good way. I loved seeing a video of a pop-diva where there are long shots of the bass player. It mirrors how I usually watch things like this. I'm always focusing on the musicians, often to see if they're actually playing or just miming. Good stuff Adam, nice to see a pro being professional.
Congrats on the gig! Do you ever worry that someone will jack your camera while you're setting up those staged shots throughout the city? I'd be pretty paranoid about that.
I edit out all the "FRANTICALLY LOOKING BEHIND ME" shots. I also mount the camera with a clamp, it would be a little bit of a trick to just grab the camera and run.
YAY another gig vlog! It's really exciting to see your skill in a variety of situations and genres. I mean jazz AND pop AND Smashmouth? You're a goddamn genius.
I really enjoy these gig vlogs man, regardless of genre. It's nice to get a peek into the workings of a professional NY musician. Keep up the good work!
A little surprised at how much I enjoyed the music. iheartradio sponsored stuff tends not to vibe with me, but this kinda did. Fun stuff. Thanks for the vlog, Adam. As always, love seeing things like this from the perspective of the working musician. Big ups.
Hey Adam! I always had this feeling you had some ambition (or "dream" if it is that big) of playing alongside pop artists but being that go to but low key bass player that only performing and touring artists know but would always call you up. You seem to have fun playing Top 40 stuff for wedding bands and you haven't posted much of your original works lately (aside from Sungazer, I'm talking about Angry Jazz etc.) It's great to see you moving up though! It's inspiring for an aspiring musician like me to see how many routes music can take you, from doing your own thing to just being a good performer. Cheers from Ohio!
As an amateur musician who (beyond not having the skills) could probably never adapt to that lifestyle, these gig videos are fascinating! Really interesting to see the variety of work you have to put in. Also cool to see you rocking the backing vocals! BTW, question: have you ever experienced a situation in which harmony/backing vocals were the deciding factor for getting a gig? Do you ever practice that specifically?
Hey man! So excited/proud that you got this gig! Happy to see that you're getting bigger and more well known! Loved seeing this, and thanks for always posting quality content that I can enjoy.
Thank you so much for sharing your content!! I've been watching your videos for the past few months and am really inspired at the way you fuse science with music which not many people understand. I'm thinking about going into music professionally and your videos inspire me to fuse new things together. Having a passion for science, it really delights me that there is someone who knows how interconnected music is to so many other fields and I wish I had found your channel earlier😊. Once again, thanks for sharing your content and congratulations on the gig!
Excelente work adam! You work your ass off and it is totally noticeable... I appreciate your time In sharing knowledge and facts of culture, history, science, MUSIC, etc. Best wishes wishes from Argentina.. Haters are gonna hate, keep on with the good work And as we say here me saco el sombrero !
hey Adam, awesome job. what are your thoughts on Death Grips? also have you ever dabbled in/become aware of self-referential or self-similar music (ie: record a track and reference the track recording therein, not just leitmotif)
That sound you got on "BASS" at the end is fucking epic. Would love to hear what that would be like as a voice for a character, if it would be unique or just sound like generic robot voice.
X88X he answered this some time back: after getting a lot of attention for the stuff he did with a seven string, he didn't want to be seen as "that guy with the seven string", so he got a pbass just for the sake of it being as traditional as can be.
Great stuff. Interesting seeing people in your comments being negative about her music. Writing songs isn't easy and everyone has their own style, so what if it's like other music. Basically everything people write now is taking bits from other songs and putting it together in new ways. Reminds me of when people didn't take Jamiroquai seriously for years because he sounded too much like Stevie Wonder. I know not everyone is going to like this but I thought your followers would be a bit nicer about it. Since you usually have a good vibe and message about music.
Did you know that the song umbrella was written with Britney Spears in mind and Rihanna ended up doing the song. The song did fairly well for her as well. It doesn't really mean much if an artist didn't write their songs. Just look at all the different writers for all of these songs: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_recorded_by_Rihanna People really shouldn't worry about who writes a song. I'm Australian and I have no idea who this girl is. It's weird seeing people question her ability. Did she jump into someone's backyard and kill 10 dogs and 5 cats? What did she do besides try to get somewhere in the music industry that needs people to hate on her?
On a completely unrelated note I recently binged and rebinged your vids .... and during a recent job interview found myself using the word 'Jive'. I even thought to myself like, wait, what did I just say lol Just found out they gave me an offer though, so thanks Adam.
Dear Adam, I'm a big fan, and I know that the song at the beggining isn't Inside//Outside or Sungazer, or if it is, I haven't heard it... Can you tell me what song it is? Also, now a more serious question, do you change your bass tone settings when you play different gigs? What critteria do you use? Cheers from Portugal And congrats on your first major pop gig, more will come
I sense that you're more of a jazz guy but do you enjoy this type of music? I don't really but I love that you always keep a positive attitude at all your gigs even though some of them aren't as good as you would like. Thanks.
Adam! I have a question about relocating to a big city and finding work as a musician/writer. I'll soon graduate with a master's in choral conducting and composition from the University of Idaho (almost as far West as you can get), and when I visited Manhattan this year I fell in love with the city! I want to relocate and "prove my mettle" as a musician, but there's a lot of logistics. Cost of living, cost of moving, finding work as a musician, finding work as a musician, finding work as a... any advice? Thanks!
Hey Adam, Love your channel by the way, been following your stuff for 2 years now and digging every Q&A, vlog and informative videos you've put up. I wanna understand how you set your strap height: what's the compromise between left hand comfort (high enough) and right hand comfort (low enough so you don't bend the wrist) that you make? Because if I were to strap my bass at a height like yours in this vlog, my left wrist will start to hurt very quickly. Wanna know your two cents. Thanks!
HI Adam!!!! Please use this in a Q&A. I'm a bassist from Cali, I do alot of work similar to what you do in NYC (although not always on the same scale as yourself). You use your pedal board to mimic bass synth sounds on your bass guitar. Is there a reason you prefer this approach over using a bass synth such as a moog little fatty or a novation bass station? I use both methods but wanted to hear your thoughts. I love your content and you inspire me very much. Also any chance you could give a more in depth run down of your board.
Nice stuff man. How often do you sing/shout while playing? And is it something you practice often? I feel like it's a lot harder to do that on bass than on keys. any tips? and do you know why it is harder to talk while (or whilst?) playing than sing? #bless
I'd go crazy if I had to film myself going to a gig. I mean, i don't gig often, but when I do, i usually take my pedal board in a flight case (13.3 kg), my small practice amp (5.6 kg) and 2 or 3 basses (3.6 to 4.7 kg each). Getting on and off the train is nightmare enough.
Hey Adam, I mainly play rock/metal guitar, piano and trumpet and I am self taught and mostly figure out stuff by ear ( I still know some theory, though ). This has worked out well for what I've been doing up until now, but I have recieved an invitation to organise a small group of musicians and play some songs live for a little theater festival. One of the songs is " Take off with us ",from Bob Fossse's movie " All that Jazz ", and I have NO IDEA from where to start figuring it out ( let alone showing the other musicians I'll be working with how to play it ).Do you know any way to start figuring out a song like that, which is focused more on the singing and the music isn't following a specific pattern? Or at least find charts? HEEEEELP!!!
hey do you live on the Bronx? of so do you know any good rehearsal studios in the Bronx or do you default to Manhattan, Brooklyn or queens like everyone else. (implying you live in Da boogie down)
Hey, Adam. I've just discovered this channel and it's awesome. One thing: I'm a big fan of Jason Mraz's music, but I can't really explain why. Can you somehow do a li'l study of his style? Thanks, man.
So everytime we see you walking on the streets, you leave your camera walk a little bit and the come back to get it? the amazing insights of production
Yeah!
u da real rick harrison?
No way, Rick Beato?
Enderman 677 That's right!♫
I can imagine Adam after the performance
"Hello, children! would you be interested in some... Theory?"
(V-Sauce theme plays)
Lol
Houston Hilburn lmao
"Do you have a moment to hear about the good word of Twentieth-Century Harmony by Vincent Persichetti?"
Was really fun to see you get into the backing vocals. Definitely interesting to see your 'entertainer' persona on stage as opposed to your 'laid-back bass man at a wedding' type of deal.
Singing Adam = best Adam
A lot of the comments here are cancer. You know what makes a pro musician? One who takes every gig seriously and does service to the song, no matter what the genre is. I have a teenage daughter and our musical tastes are very different -- the stuff which I love leaves her cold, and vice versa. This music you are shitting on is meaningful (in a real way) to a large set of people out there.
honestly let them be jerks, more jobs for reasonable people
Yep, there's no good or bad music. Some people enjoy it and some people don't.
Right on dude.
No good or bad? Mediocrity rules.
It's nice to see a singer in pop music who actually sings and plays with a live band. Backing tracks are fine but live music is live music
That was...strange, in a really good way. I loved seeing a video of a pop-diva where there are long shots of the bass player. It mirrors how I usually watch things like this. I'm always focusing on the musicians, often to see if they're actually playing or just miming. Good stuff Adam, nice to see a pro being professional.
omg adam how dare you play good music with musicians who seem fun, competent and personable.
(/s)
Excellent working man's Vlog sir. Thanks for taking us along with ya!
Man, i feel for the sound guy in that venue, tough acoustics. Great gig Vlog!
Congrats on the gig! Do you ever worry that someone will jack your camera while you're setting up those staged shots throughout the city? I'd be pretty paranoid about that.
goldcougar2k1 answer this haha
Exactly what I was thinking :))
I edit out all the "FRANTICALLY LOOKING BEHIND ME" shots. I also mount the camera with a clamp, it would be a little bit of a trick to just grab the camera and run.
HAahoeuhea oh, man, you could just, you know.. have some friends? hahahaha!
YAY another gig vlog!
It's really exciting to see your skill in a variety of situations and genres. I mean jazz AND pop AND Smashmouth?
You're a goddamn genius.
the singing Adam is pretty cute
I really enjoy these gig vlogs man, regardless of genre. It's nice to get a peek into the workings of a professional NY musician. Keep up the good work!

I enjoyed this vlog. It's cool to see how well you and other musicians adapt to different genres and situations. Also hearing you say "yeah" (:
What a great opportunity for you, Adam. Excellent job!
As always, thank you for sharing, Adam.
Yep - obligatory Careless Whispers :) Nice tight groove - had you guys rehearsed together at all before soundcheck?
Hey Adam! I always had this feeling you had some ambition (or "dream" if it is that big) of playing alongside pop artists but being that go to but low key bass player that only performing and touring artists know but would always call you up. Ahhhhw I was so maximally cuted out by seeing all the kids at the end! Awesome gig it must've been!

That's awesome! Congratulations, Adam.
1:03 That's an epic hallway, haha.
What's epic is having to drag all your gear down it, and my rig's not heavy. I'd probably get vertigo and seizures.
Seems like you straight up killed it! Congrats on the gig, Adam!
Awesome man, hoping for more great things to come!
Congrats on a cool gig man. I love seeing you traipsing around with your low end :) Much love from Australia
Tight AF ,as always, dear Adam. Congrats. Also i love your editing skills.
Nice gig. Looked like some fun! Neat stage, too. Cheers!
Excelente work adam! You work your ass off and it is totally noticeable... I appreciate your time In sharing knowledge and facts of culture, history, science, MUSIC, etc.
Best wishes wishes from Argentina..
Haters are gonna hate, keep on with the good work
And as we say here
me saco el sombrero !
First two songs I was beginning to wonder if she could even sing, but she was slammin' it on the third one.
Nice shots on the transport sequence Adam, you really are getting better at this.
love the gig vlogs. do more please
ADAM I like you. Please notice me
CptnSpicyWeiner the blessings have found you dearest Weenie of spice.
Nate Miller that is the best thing I've ever read on the 28th day of any given month
I'm happy for you men... great Job
Awesome Job Adam! Congrats!
Wooo that band sounded awesome...great job, man
Okay!
Love the slingerland kit
hey Adam, awesome job.
what are your thoughts on Death Grips?
also have you ever dabbled in/become aware of self-referential or self-similar music (ie: record a track and reference the track recording therein, not just leitmotif)
stereo bananas
I would be super interested to know what exactly you bring to gigs in your bag and on that cart you bring on the subway.
Pretty sure the cart's just full of picks and M&Ms, but wait and see if Adam answers, there might be one or two other things in there...
Not far off, haha! I do a quick rundown of that stuff on gig vlog #3.
Hey adam can u make a vid explaining why u settled for a P bass and not a Jazz or a stingray?
That's covered in one of the more recent Q&As. And no, he didn't *settle*.
Love your videos adam
Congrats on landing the gig . . . great job of it too.
My favorite part is that the "Not me" is Charlie Rosen....hands down one of the best musicians in NYC. What cool shoes to fill man! Sounds great!
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Adam! Quick preference questions: What is your favorite jazz standard? And who is your favorite jazz piano player?
That sound you got on "BASS" at the end is fucking epic. Would love to hear what that would be like as a voice for a character, if it would be unique or just sound like generic robot voice.
Dear Adam: Why a P-Bass instead of a Jazz Bass?
X88X because, P bass is more awesomer than J bass.
Seeing as Adam hasn't replied; probably the neck. Jazzers are disgusting above the 12 fret.
Because he was playing P not J :D
X88X he answered this some time back: after getting a lot of attention for the stuff he did with a seven string, he didn't want to be seen as "that guy with the seven string", so he got a pbass just for the sake of it being as traditional as can be.
Both are great basses, but the yamaha basses are the best overall
Great stuff.
Interesting seeing people in your comments being negative about her music. Writing songs isn't easy and everyone has their own style, so what if it's like other music. Basically everything people write now is taking bits from other songs and putting it together in new ways.

I know not everyone is going to like this but I thought your followers would be a bit nicer about it. Since you usually have a good vibe and message about music.
can we confirm if she wrote any of it? a lot of pop stars don't write their music.
Did you know that the song umbrella was written with Britney Spears in mind and Rihanna ended up doing the song. The song did fairly well for her as well. It doesn't really mean much if an artist didn't write their songs.

Yeah, I just meant that there is no point in complaining about the songwriting when for all we know it was some guy who pumps out 40 of these a day.
karsaurlong I'm a good friend of Erin's and I can guarantee she wrote them. She writes all of her songs, every single one of them.
can't pull up to a gig without the handy stereo bananas
What's the background music? I'm really digging it.
On a completely unrelated note I recently binged and rebinged your vids .... and during a recent job interview found myself using the word 'Jive'.
I even thought to myself like, wait, what did I just say lol
Just found out they gave me an offer though, so thanks Adam.
yeah!
The riff from Careless Whisper has become the default POST (Power On Self Test) for saxophones.
wow adam! great moves!
Great job, man!!
Hey Adam, another great gig vlog, I notice that you sung for this gig, is singing something you are asked to do a lot a gigs? Keep up the great work.
The first track that plays when the video begins sounds a lot like Blank Banshee.
stole the lick from that album, love it!
Adam Neely I felt the v a p o r s ;) It is great to see more people getting into this kind of music, keep it up mate!
Cheers from Portugal
And congrats on your first major pop gig, more will come
Great job man!!!
I still live with my parents so I'm fucking picky with my gigs but you inspire to do more variety Adam Neely and maybe make money
Man, you should hire Lil' Jon for that 'okay'-parts :)
Proud of you broham 💪
god i fuckin love these
Very nice!! anybody knows the song in 4:00 ?
Shes not bad at all. Was she there for the practice at all or was she there only for the performance?
I sense that you're more of a jazz guy but do you enjoy this type of music? I don't really but I love that you always keep a positive attitude at all your gigs even though some of them aren't as good as you would like. Thanks.
background music is a vibe.
Yeahhhh Adam :)

I really like the song in the beginning/end of the vlog! Did you make it? Or where can I find it?
That was cool gig and video just wish it was a little longer.
Hey Adam,

+Nudelaug Binideppat it adds another level of stress, for sure. I'd do it more often otherwise!

can someone explain that drum kit setup?.never seen that,.would like to try
for some reason that woman reminds me of Brendon Urie. her moves on stage and dominant features.
How do you get gigs? I'm a central NJ based musician and don't know where to start...
Any more info on your P-bass? That a Dimarzio split P it's packing?
what is intro track?
Hey, Adam. I've just discovered this channel and it's awesome. One thing: I'm a big fan of Jason Mraz's music, but I can't really explain why. Can you somehow do a li'l study of his style? Thanks, man.
What a cool life
great video. not a pop fan but was groovin on the bass :)
Adam doing backing vocals? That's new
Well is getting warmer in NYC. As you can see Adam ain't wearing his Eskimo Suit any more.
Nice vlog!
OKAAAAAY!
THAT'S RIGHT!
ADAM LOCKED THE FUCK IN MY MANNNNN
How much time did you have to learn the songs?
Heve you rehearsed as as group? Or just individually and than got to put together on the go?
So everytime we see you walking on the streets, you leave your camera walk a little bit and the come back to get it? the amazing insights of production
when Adam looks at her this is the song his heart sings 1:37
