The whole reason I built this tank was for these fish. I saw them in the shop a few weeks back and thought "why not make an actual cave for them".
You all seem to love the tank so hopefully you will love the fish as well. Because they cannot see anything, they are always active and provide tons of action to the tank.
Let me know if you had heard of them in the comments below because they were new to me!

Great job mate! Congrats on the continued channel growth! You’re crushing it. Nice taste in music too... 😃
Thanks George. Glad you like it. Do you fancy a field trip to Portugal with me in the new year. Vlog event/series. I know you have already been but would be awesome.
@@MDFishTanks Funny, I just discovered your channel and I was thinking as I looked at your tanks that there's definitely a George Farmer influence in your scapes!
Liked and subscribed!
Your kids and your interactions take your content to a whole new level
thanks :)
At first hearing, I wouldn't expect 'blind cave fish' to be this exciting, but they seem amazingly entertaining.
Mudskippers and crabs would both be awesome to see in one of your scapes
I def want mud skippers in the new studio!
@@MDFishTanks you probably shouldn't unless you set up a brackish tank. i'm not positive but I think they need a level of salinity that makes it hard to grow plants.
@@bugass81 shush, obvs he would make it brackish he is not dumb!
@@halalmemes4515 No but his thing is planted tanks and the salt in a brackish tank makes it harder to grow plants.
@@bugass81 u know that there are different types of plants that flourish in a brackish aquarium, right?
Your sons’ reaction to the blind fish are so cute. I’ve never seen or heard of them before so that’s pretty cool. The algae tint on the rocks makes it look more natural for sure. Speaking of cool fish, I recently saw glass catfish at my LFS which is amazing. A mudskipper tank would really be right up your alley.
yeah I'm def interested in them. Thanks for saying that about my kids :D
Could watch them jump around all day.
That is technically moss, not algae. Nonetheless, cool find!
You should get the crabs. They would be a nice cool land animal for an aqua terrarium
Definitely a possibility. I'm getting lots for the new studio in the new year
i have read that they eat plant's so be careful !!!
they eat plants
It depends on what type of crabs tho

If you get that betta, you HAVE to name him Captain UK. Colors like that cannot be ignored.
Plz make set up for crabs and trutle...I love to see them

Love the innocence of the kiddos. You can do a tank set up with them. Sure they will be thrilled.
Having your kids actively involved in your hobby is a great feeling to watch as an audience to this. I'm excited to see down the road when they get older if they get the old aquarium keeping bug in them as well! Good work as always on these tanks and the concepts are always new/unique compared to what's out there in aquascaping, really love it.
thank you. Lots more ideas to come
Hi MD!
It's Sharon from Michigan USA again. Great tank set up again. Love your ideas. Blind cave fish actually have sonar like bats! How cool that! Enjoyed you again. Sharon
3:25 Turtles... I have three red ear sliders. It took me over a decade to figure out how to make it so I only had to do water changes 2 to 4 times a year. It was a matter of testing out different filter brands, and keeping my turtles on a specific diet that wouldn't effect the water quality. Despite the infrequent water changes I wash out the sponges in their cannister filters once a week. At least once a month I do a good scrub on tank decor and also scrub off algae in one of the tanks as needed. In terms of dirtiness, I'd say they aren't dirty at all. Fairly low maintenance at this point. The brand/model I use is a "XpertMatic DB-368F", which is for 120 gallons but each tank I've got is 55 gallons, so it's pretty powerful.
The tour of the aquarium shop, with prices, was very satisfying. Cheers.
Nice fish store ! Clean tanks no floating dead . I also love their selection of fish and Aquariums.
The box stores just never get it .
I believe stores should set up tanks to show people what they could do and what fish they can have together. I like your cave tank and fish . Also your boys are Adorable !
thanks jane
@@MDFishTanks No ! Thank you ! Your tank creations bring me much peace in this crazy world. You also fill my head with lots of ideas for my tanks. So thank you 😊
Looks great....a couple years ago we hiked the Luray caverns and saw these fish on the caves....it is amazing and beautiful and they are super cool to see....very neat....👍
thanks guys
Nice work. You really seem to care for the fish. That’s the most enjoyable part!!
So dope setup as always with those blind cave tetras!!! Thanks for sharing my Mr. MDFT you are so cool indeed! Always checking and waiting for your great contents. God bless you more❤️
More to come...😁
I love this cave aquarium. I like your approach to scaping and your natural approach to the hobby.
Never had blind cave fish but have seen them around - very nice! And a great tank 👍
You have some beautiful tanks. New sub here and can’t wait to watch your other videos! That cave tanks is amazing!
Loving your content man. Just came across your channel and I've been binge watching your videos. Great stuff, keep it up. Much love
thanks Ferris :)
Mudskippers! I LOVE mudskippers! Maybe you could do a dwarf mudskipper tank with deep sand substrate and tidal flooding to get them to breed. I don't think anyone's successfully bred them in captivity yet.
It's certainly on the cards!
Taking us along to the store and seeing your kids reactions...priceless! Those fish are so perfect for that tank. Really great choice.
The crabs would be a great project.
👍💕👍
Suggestion: Do more fish store tours, they are always popular with the American viewers.
I actually enjoy watching them.
(They actually make us envious)
Cant belive your bettas are kept in tanks with decorations ours are kept in little cups
WOW! So glad I found your channel, Amazing looking tank, really cool fish... love the Oto's, just got 4 yesterday and Im stoked to see how they work out! Happy Holidays M8!
Thank you. Glad you like the channel :)
Magnificent Vedio MD, blind cave tetra fish, wish we had fish like that in our fish pet stores in Bulgaria, sadly they dont sell axolotls here in Bulgaria, its very nice you are getting your children into the Fish pet hobby
Hopefully they get more involved as they grow
@@MDFishTanks, the smile on their faces when you bring new fish from the pet store is just priceless
You gotta get the mudskippers! They just seem like they have the cutest little personalities!
yeah thats happening!
Your cat is looking over amd loving his new water bowl/cave aquarium. Another great tank set up ❤
shes thinking....lunch!
😄👍🏼
I actually have 2 of my own. It is amazing how well they do for fish that cannot see! Your scape has inspired me to give them more of a natural cave of their own. My cats love watching them too.
This is an amazing set up. Has to be my favourite you have shown us.
Thank you
Excellent video, very informational and you showed a lot of footage of the fish which lot of you tubers lack in their videos !!
too interesting not to show!
Perfect fish for your cave tank. I've not only heard of them, I've seen them. They're neat little fish, and it's amazing how well they get around. Just the right amount of them for that tank. 👍🎄🎅
thanks lynn
Well done. What a perfect fish for this cave tank! I've seen the blind tetras in my fish store also a few years back. I was pretty intrigued by them, but at the time I was into African cichlids so getting those was not an option.
I'll also add my vote on the mudskippers! They look like a lot of fun to keep!
haha. yeah just jumping all over the place lol
You should make a pond tank for the mudskippers. They’re very cute. I don’t think cute is the right word for them, but I’m going to use it for now.
yeah that would be cool!
Just subbed. I love all of your tanks and scapes. They look so lush and alive. Thinking of doing my own planted scape with some guppies. Also I’m a fan of the cinematic tank views at the end. 👍🏽
nice. I will keep them in :)
You should get some mud skippers. I loved watching them jump. These little blind fish are enjoyable too. Remind me of my four lined pims in their eating habits.
It will happen!
One of your best builds but would be nice if the cave fish actually went in the cave 😆 I’d really like to see you create a mudskipper tank. Be interesting how you’d design a brackish aquascape. I absolutely love your videos 👍
yeah I'm doing it!
Dude. I would totally stick a Tardis in any of my aquariums. You Australians get all the good stuff.
Yes! Get a vampire crab paludarium! Those blind fish are awesome, I wonder how they don't just bump into stuff, very interesting indeed. I love how active they are, basically zooming around the tank!
Yeah very active and interesting.
Ive been wanting a scape with these in for a couple months now after seeing a school of them in an aquarium, Ive done a fair bit of research but hadn't realised you could actually buy them in fish shops! your tank looks great!! huge inspiration MD as always!
Cheers jason
Wow! Never heard of those fishes before! I think I'm going to read a bit about them cause it looks very interesting
(Yay for the Tiny shot at the end haha!)
had to get her in lol
@@MDFishTanks 😂👌
Love your videos..watching from Puerto Rico..Learned a lot with yours ideas..Thanks
I love how they can just find and eat the food without eyes! Awesome 👍
very quickly as well!
Yeahhhhh! Mudskippers, crabs, turtles, and frogs
all in one tank? :D
Wow I'm 2 videos in and already loving the channel.... I found a single blind cave tetra at the petstore, I'm on the lookout for more
Loving all your videos... love your energy and love and care and interactions with kids and your goofy and your laugh and your tanks!!
Love your enthusiasm, I sound the same when looking at fish, want them all! Trying to downsize tanks at the moment, not going very well...😄
Never downsize lol
You got the perfect fish for the perfect tank !
These fish don't need 'guide service fish' do they ;P
Very nice tank and interesting fish...
Nonononono no crabs with Pancho, they'll eat him!! The mudskippers on the other hand, what an awesome little creature!!!
no, not for pancho. It would be a seperate setup
@@MDFishTanks Oooh well then go wild with it :D More tanks more tanks!!
Just in case you are still curious MD, the tetras sense you by using their lateral line which enables them to feel when and where the water is disturbed. I think its really fascinating, just in case you didnt know yet 😉
Just in case just in case 😂😂 sorry, im tired
@@aprilsage5695 yeah its very clever
Hey MD! Any plans on doing a blackwater biotope? Maybe cardinals, checkerboards and some emergent growth (echinoduros maybe?) or just some frogbit? Would be really cool to see your take on biotope scapes in general!
coming shortly :)
Great scape as always!!! I would love to see you do a mudskipper tank and a real winter scape with snow covered mountain and pine trees and the like. Never seen one done and I think with your talent you could do something really cool. ( If just for the winter). Thanks for listening!!! 🙃
Mud skipper is happening
Md why don't you try a turtle tank...........I thik it's a cool suggestion☺️
watch the vid ;)
Great scape and brilliant fish selection, I'm sure they'll be well happy in there! 👍
thank you. They seem to be so far
The mud skippers and crabs looks super awesome
Those fish are amazing... nice. , i have question. How you keep your discas commiunity tank so clear. Syphoning it or just the filter.?
big fiter for biological and hidden internal for water polishing
I enjoy in every video you post. Keep up with excellent job!
thank you :)
Love this set up. I'm about to get some blind cave tetra! They have a lateralmline like a shark. An awesome little fish!
Most fish have lateral lines
Beautiful tanks and fish mate, as always. I am in love with the cave tank.
Thank you. Should grow in well
the mud skippers are hilarious!!!! love the tank, the fish are a bit creepy but so cool for the cave tank
yes and yes lol
정말 깔끔하고 좋은 영상 잘 봤습니다. ^^♡
I really enjoyed the clean water tank and the good video. ^__^♡ Santa haha~♡
Nice video as always! How do you keep you plants so lush? CO2? Ferts? Have a nice one!
Love mudskippers! Itd be awesome if you did a tank for em !
I will :)
Mudskippers 😍👍🏻
yip!
Congrats on 60k MD that's awesomeness lol your videos make me wanna start smaller tank
Thanks...do it!!
I've been watching your vids for a few months now... man I wish I could escape like you.. keep up the good work
So Happy that you are going to keep turtles in the future, i am waiting to see a great naturalistisc scape for a turtle tank, so i can learn from that to scape my own turtle tank. I have a juvenile musk turtle and keep him with live plants. I made a small cave for him as wel.
should be amazing!!!!
I found your channel a couple of days ago and I love it! Awesome content and beautiful aquascapes. Keep up the great work man!
I dont know if you can get a hand on them but Amazon puffers would be an awesome replacement for the pea puffers, mine is always active and out in the open, and they go great with things like rasboras, tetras, corydoras, plecos, oto cats and so on. As long as the fish have normal sized fins and are fast they should be fine.
I'll take a look
I'll definitely take a look
So beautiful fish...tank looks fantastic. you do good job....
Fishes name plz...how is Christmas tank.give some update on it.
thanks. Its just the same to be honest, nothing changes lol
@@MDFishTanks how r your kids feel about tank
Loved this one. Love them all! What is that white substrate? Thanks!
They're like little Helen Kellers, those blind fish, nabbing up the food.
the green on the rocks is beautiful and the otocinclus.. I love them
Would love to see you get the mud skippers. Your kids are so cute!!!!!! Haven't seen blind cave fish in years. 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿

omg i love seeing how happy your kids got over you asking if they wanted to get them in lol
Beautiful tank, congrats. 👌👌👍👍❤️
thank you :D
Congrats for 60k 🤟. #GoingStrong
Thank you :)
Hiya, I love the way you present your work, I have learned a lot, despite keeping fish for 30 years.
I just thought I would let you know though, that the cave fish will grow rather large... mine grew to about 3 inches and were quite hefty... you may need to upsize tank in the next year to keep them happy!
Keep up the good work and I hope to learn more from you 🙂
The cave rocks coming along nicely cool fish selections aswell champ
Cheers mate
Great stuff MD, keep up the good work! Loving the 'scape and the blind cave fish, like you, I've never seen them for sale before now in the UK. What make is tank and cabinet? Looking to upgrade from my 40cm cube very soon.
Just started watching your great vids 👍🏻 then I realised wait a minute that kitchen and fish gallery look familiar??? You live 1/2 mile from me. (WALDRONS) I came down your place to look at some boxing around some pipe work on your on suit. It’s a small world. Steve cooper
Love those fish! So wierd! But so interesting!!! Doubt I'd be Be able to find food, blind, so they are pretty amazing things!! Did you get any shrimp for the tank? Thought I spotted 3 bags from the shop.....
I got a few amano and will get more and snails in future vids
Pretty cool never heard of these fish great set up tfs
I love this tank! Ok, I don't mean to ask a dumb question, but are they attracted to the "cave"? And if so, how do they find it, or even know it's there?
They seem to swim right through it a lot but im not sure if thats just luck or not...
A+, your scaping on these aquariums are always on 🔥
Great video! I am new to aqua scaping. Would it be super difficult to do vacuuming when there are large decorations in the tank? How do you usually do maintenance on your tank? Thanks!
Great one as usual mate. Wow 🤩 love the fish
Just work with the scape
Yeah I built the tank knowing it would be their home
thanks for all the tips and tricks they’re real helpful!
Wow that puffer was expensive! We have them everywhere here in the lake where I live….. I’ve caught ( and released ) many!❤️🇦🇺
Love the hard scape. Looks really good.
you should include fishes that school together like tetras.... that would increase the beauty of this tank even more
Something else that would be cool in a lot of your tanks, not necessarily this one but upside down catfish, it would look cool in a lot of your tanks with them putting around on the surface.
Hey Man, great work, seriously! You could pre make these and sell them.. I have a question though: Can I get my wood from the beach or from in the mountains?? Maybe so long as its hardwood and not green(live or recently so)?
Keep up the awesome work!
Your aquascapes are starting to look really professional!
thanks. lots of room for improvement. I dont go huge on small details though so I think thats the difference
I love your video and extremely practical tips you share in your videos.
I have 2 questions for you, hope its not much to ask!
1) I want know the name of filter you use that hangs on the wall of the aquarium?
2) You fill up your rank to almost brim of it does your fish not jump out of it?
I think that turtles would be fine in a pond as they would hibernate in the winter and survive. In my state, the turtles survive and it is -8c now. :)
oh right. I didnt know turtles hibernate to be honest. Im guessing they arnt in the water at -8??
@@MDFishTanks depends on the species, some go deep underwater, some burrow a tunnel on land. In both cases, their metabolism slows to practically nonexistent until the spring thaw.
love your tanks just getting back into fish after 50 yrs !!!
No you make good use of items, especially the shop bought xmas tree, and how you decorated it.
I just found new homes cichlids, got an MT tank, any offers LOL.
Best of luck
I'm soooooo pleased you kept the algae on the rocks! As this is the main diet of the ottos. I've also noticed that they are partial to some bloodworm (frozen). They are known for being fussy and starving to death, maybe try to leave the back glass slightly... that really improved my success rate with them!
The cave fish are cool, I was wondering about those when I saw them online recently.
Please do a vampire crab tank.
yeah I've actually always had really good success with ottos
