What happens on the ground outside of certain sites isn't within their remit legally. The CAA are quite clear about the responsibility to check local bylaws etc. being on the pilot.
The Council has indeed implemented a number of PSPO rules, including a drone ban: “Any person(s)* who fly/flies a drone without the written consent of the landowner and/or London Borough of Brent, whether licensed or not.” It’s a fine line between protecting the public from potentially harmful acts and breaching on civil liberties and lawful activities such as filming. It seems that the anti-social behavior act is commonly misused to restrict lawful acts.

Having been in deep military intelligence, I wouldn't use a drone to collect footage for terrorism purposes, they're far too conspicuous. I'd much rather be a drunk looking vagrant or someone who acts strange and you wouldn't even see my camera, it would be hidden in a button and controlled from my pocket. I would also be in communication with a handler.
Surely that PSPO thing is not entirely legal - certainly open for a legal challenge by someone brave enough. That doesn’t feel ethical, and is an infringement on freedoms. I suppose in the UK, we can’t be surprised.

A lot of council bylaws are unlawful. They rely on the fact that nobody has the funds to challenge them, because the council themselves would willingly go bankrupt to fight anything however trivial.
The council have zero authority over the airspace. Only the CAA. The DJI drones do have a feature though called geofencing which can be set to not let the drone even take off in certain areas.
A PSPO is nothing to do with airspace, it means drone operators are unable to TOAL on any of the land that the PSPO covers; which is what has occurred here. So yes the council down own the airspace but you still can’t ignore a PSPO.

More likely it doesn't cover every bylaw, regulation & PSPO in place. There's nothing wrong with flying in that area, you are only banned from TOAL in publicly accessible areas.
@@mjbrown1603 The problem with Drone Assist is it gets its data from Altitude Angel, which in turn gets automated feeds like NOTAMS from the CAA etc. It won't pickup on stuff like bylaws, ATEX zone restrictions etc. The CAA are pretty open about them not having the responsibility, nor the data for these. The PSPO is pretty irrelevant really, the airspace has no restrictions - it's just a council using a PSPO which I'm 99% certain is to protect commercial aspects around events at Wembley.
I think the PSPO’s are very expensive to put in place, but I wonder if this is the start of a very slippery slope that will restrict drone flying in many more places. Another very good video thanks DJE

One could argue even if you did fly the Drone Assist app doesn't show that is a banned area. Therefore if you did fly you can show you've done your due diligence. Meaning a court of law will likely rescind the fine, or ticket they have given you.

It’s funny because a friend of mine has his phone stolen in town and the police couldn’t be arsed to check cctv. But when someone “might” have flown a drone they’re straight onto control to try and prove someone guilty.

I also thought you can't fly a drone from their property but you can fly over it, as they don't control the airspace above like the CAA does. That was all open fields not that long ago. There are photos of a Steam shovel digging out the railway line from London towards the tower that used to stand in woods there. Green fields, Oaks and Elms with hedges. One of the concrete pads that supported one leg of the gert Watkins Tower which was intended to be taller than the Eiffel Tower was found under the pitch when Wembley Stadium was rebuilt.

Pity they don't show up in force like this when the illegal immigrants arrive at the shores. I also thought you can't fly a drone from their property but you can fly over it, as they don't control the airspace above like the CAA does. Hell I can understand flying over Wembley stadium when there's a game on or something, and it's nothing the do with Health and safety, it's because TV broadcaster have paid tens of thousand for the right to do so. Sounds like security at Wembley don't like tourist either, basically anyone with a camera. Need to put that in the adverts, "No Cameras Allowed".

That was all open fields not that long ago. There are photos of a Steam shovel digging out the railway line from London towards the tower that used to stand in woods there. Green fields, Oaks and Elms with hedges. One of the concrete pads that supported one leg of the gert Watkins Tower which was intended to be taller than the Eiffel Tower was found under the pitch when Wembley Stadium was rebuilt.
