Tainan Zuozhen Fossil Park integrates the original Cailiao Fossil Museum and Natural History Education Center, and is co-constructed with Guangrong Elementary School. The unique treasure trove of fossils in the Cai Liao River Basin has attracted attention since 1931. When Ichiro Hayasaka, a professor of geology at Taipei Imperial University, was conducting geological surveys in Tainan, he collected many antler fossils in the Cailiao River Basin, and asked local Mr. Chen Chunmu (later known as Fossil Grandpa) to help collect many precious ancient elephants, rhinoceros, buffalo, etc. Animal fossils have established Cai Liao Creek as a base for the study of Taiwan's paleontology.
The Zuozhen Fossil Park has accumulated collections of marine and terrestrial biological fossils such as mammoths, saber-toothed elephants, ancient deer, crocodiles, and shellfish. The large number of terrestrial vertebrate fossils unearthed is a major feature. In addition, Zuozhen Man skull fragments, Hayasaka The collection of Chinese rhinoceros restored skeletons and other collections can be described as Taiwan’s irreplaceable fossil treasure trove. Today, Zuozhen Fossil Park has transformed and expanded from a single building to five exhibition halls.
The Natural History Education Center simulates the stratigraphic rock walls of Zuozhen, where you can experience multiple interactive devices, such as fossil excavation and river bed fossil observation; the Story Hall introduces the Xinhua Hills and displays Siraya cultural relics including Xingang documents, and learn about " Fossil Grandpa" Chen Chunmu's contribution to collecting fossils throughout his life; the Life Evolution Museum presents the battle for marine life. The dinosaurs that once dominated the earth are located in the atrium. Later, mammals rose on the historical stage to witness the prosperity and decline of life evolution; the Fossil Museum has been expanded The augmented reality interactive sand table allows you to understand the origin of fossils in the Cai Liao River Basin. However, the most eye-catching one is the Hayasaka Chinese rhinoceros full-body skeleton fossil. The Exploration Hall reveals the mystery of Zuozhen Man. When you approach the fossil cleaning room, you can learn about the origin of the fossils. See the restoration of fossils; go to the interactive painting magic classroom to interact with and feed the Cai Liao watershed biota that you color.
