I couldn't find any instructions at Tascam, so this was helpful, thanks.
Thank you,

JLiRD808 There's nothing in that manual about updating my friend, that was my frustration also.
My Tascam won't connect to my bloody computer.
Thank you so much for doing this video! I knew I had to update but was really putting it off. Came to the point where I couldn't anymore and your instructions were ON POINT! I had zero problems, played your video and did the steps with you. I hope everything else with the TASCAM DR-70D is as straightforward.
Watching this again for a second firm update. Thank you for this video, very helpful!
YAY, thanks I just updated my firmware... you a boss!
Many thanks. Tascam had nothing on this. Greatly appreciated!
Cheers !
Same as below comment by Maaten Heilbron - could not find any firmware update instructions in both manuals. So went to youtube and found your video. TASCAM should give you a share of their proceeds. Ha ha.
Absolutely outstanding. Thank you so much. Very easy to use and it worked perfect.
for the DR-60D MKII, it's the [Menu] and [Monitor Select] buttons that needs to be pressed
Thank you so much for doing this video!
Brilliant, you the man! Just got one of these and didn't know how to do this, brilliant, thanks.
Cheers !

Thanx for this video. I wonder why there isn't a clue about such updates in the Tascam Manual. Can you tell me what are the most significant improvements of this firmware update?

Hi , I need some help.I have my cables going from output of tascam -70D then into my video camera mic port. I'm Trying to get good audio onto the video recording.
When I use my Panasonic handheld video camera HC-V770 with this Tascam DR-70D , if both are plugged into utility power instead of battery power, I get loud interference in my video recording on the memory card that is in the video camera. But if I unplug either unit and let one run off of battery, the sound in the video is crystal clear.
Is this normal? is there something I can do to stop this in case my batteries are dead or I am making a long recording? On the audio only recording that is on the memory card in the Tascam DR-70D, the audio is fine, no issues or changes....
Thank you for your feedback.

Thank you for your post. I like this recorder but it is anything but user friendly. Almost impossible to use without serious tutorials. A real pain but manageable just don't get on location and need anything seriously changed with which you do not know as the trial an error will take all of an hour or two under watchful eyes to adjust and get back to normal.
Relative to the update noted here . . Interestingly, the downloads page shows Ver 1.14 and my 70D has Version 1.15. How on earth is that possible?
Oh and you've probably figured out by now but the dual rec mode is to record a safety track lower than the main track. In case a subject gets too loud you have a backup you can switch to that hopefully didn't peak in the safety track. It's one of the main reasons I bought this recorder. Zoom h4n can't do it without tricking it. Was on a shoot that one guy was loud and all the others wouldn't speak up at all. They actually had to pull some of his dialog from the camera audio which sounded like shit cause the zoom just picked him up way too loud. So found the solution for it with this recorder. Next time we'll be ready for this issue. Or we'll hopefully have actors that can take simple direction and regulate the volume of their own voice for gods sake.
Thanks for the comment & sharing the information about dual mode. Only experienced actors knows how to project themselves , they take in account the technical side as well . Projecting correctly saves them time & effort as well by not doing dubbing on bigger projects. This is a nice feature on this recorder though!
Yes, it would be nice to have experienced actors but you know how it goes, you have to use what you can get. Great video though. I learned a lot.
Can I monitor each of the channels individually with this update? The 60D models does this but not the 70D with the original firmware.
Hi , With this upgrade you can only monitor the mix of all input Channels , not individual. This is something Tascam should address in 70D with the next firmware update. The only way they will do it is if a lot of us send them emails about it. I am sending one today !
I will send an email too. This is very helpful in the field. I thought this was done in the previous upgrade.
When updating firmware, do I need to install older missed updates before installing the latest version?
I believe you can directly install the latest version of firmware , I would advise to email tascam as well to confirm.
I appreciate your help with this and your video was really helpful.
Thank you
What do you do if your Tascam won't connect to your computer? I don't know why it won't connect, it just says 'connecting' and keeps saying connecting.
This is what i always do when troubleshooting , what ever you have installed/changed on PC/Mac last start from there , try different usb port/s cable/s , test on a different PC < IF none works then reinstall the firmware.
Thanks for the swift reply.
Alas I can't reinstall the firmware, I've never updated the firmware and it thus tells me there is no update file.
How I wish I had the day I bought it now, but nobody told me that.
I think I've sussed it. I've formatted the card and later I'm going to use a laptop to put the file on the card, then put it back in the Tascam and hunky dory (in theory). I'll let you know how I get on.
Sure , share your troubleshooting/fix here so if someone else has same issue they would find your solution !
