Thank you for the Tascam DR-70D videos, I'm a rank beginner and these have been quite helpful. I stumbled on them by accident, they didn't show up easily in the search function, I'm glad I kept digging.

Love the videos on the TASCAM unit. Helped me ramp up quickly for a couple of video shoots that I had coming up. Keep them coming.

This is one of the best tutorials on 70d, thanks a lot for your work! One thing I want to learn is when you monitor the sound with several xlr input, what are you really monitoring in your headset? And when do you know something goes wrong? Thanks again

Just wondering how to set the pre-recording in this unit. Thanks a lot! Excellent tutorial!

Hello and thank you for your timely tips. I want to use the tascam with a MKE 600 microphone with 1.5V AA phantom power. In the menus, input then input gain should I select mic + phantom and turn on the microphone? OR bundle on mic and turn on the mic (the idea is to use the mic power and save the tascam power). Second question: using the MKE 600 microphone as a phantom connected with an XLR cable, how can I connect the Sennheiser XSW DIGITAL RX35 receiver to the tascam with the mini jack cable to the EXT in 1/2 input of the tascam (the idea is to use the XS Wirelless Digital with an ME 2-2 lavalier microphone with the Tascam DR-70D which is itself connected to a MKE 600 microphone connected to an XLR input)? Maybe it's the same process as with a Rode wireless go? Thanks in advance.

I still can't figure out how to set the DR-70D to record the slate sound on camera. I'm using a 5D Mark IV and have the audio cable going out of the DR-70D and in to the mic in on the 5D. I'm using a SENNHEISER mic from channel one and running on battery power not phantom. Thoughts? I cannot find out how to do this anywhere including the manual.

Can you record 4 channels ; lets say ch1 and ch2 phantom and ch3 and ch4 to record recievers and simultaniously record it 6dB lower?

Ugggghhh!!!! Where did you find these??? I'm so angry with UA-cam. I'm guessing that their search algorithms are feeding me vids of "preferred UA-camrs" at the expense of my time, regardless of my needs and requests.
From the many comments that I've run across, I think you are also a victim. I would have expected to see 1000+ views of your videos by now because you're filling a high demand niche.
Thank you for the great leads, and I promise to return the favor by spreading your link around, cuz God knows, UA-cam won't...

Thanks Joe! I really appreciate you saying that. If you have any other questions about media just let me know. I can't answer everything myself, but I'll at least try and find you an answer.

what i don't understand is how the camera was still able to receive a slate tone? did you have to press it twice? Also what about the time code, how does that come into play?

bodytemple The slate tone on the camera’s recording is because the cam out is plugged into the cameras microphone input. The slate tone on both files is the same tone, which is what makes lining things up easier.

I didn't understand that either. He hit record on the camera after he hit the slate key. I suspect you have to hit the slate after you start recording with the camera.

      1. handling stereo recording using the mid-side technique
      2. using the x/y method
      3. (very important to me) the ORTF technique
      4. Determining gain in the recording settings... low/high/very high
      these are just for starters
      5. recording a loud rockband in a bar.... mic level or line level? or is that not how to handle the issue
      6. Are the mic and line levels an exponential level above the low/high very high settings?
      7. why are we told to record stereo using xlr ports 1/3?
these are just off the top of my head. I'll have about 20 more questions tomorrow
      Thanks

Joe. Thanks for the feedback. This training is meant as a fundamentals course for someone who doesn't know audio. We will be dedicating your questions to their own video in order to discuss each one in greater detail. Thanks again.

Joe in the meantime. Here's the best Mid-Side technique video I've found ua-cam.com/video/WutTY25fj-g/v-deo.html
