My man, you need the 'Carry on' mod. it lets you move chests full of stuff around your base. Also, you should pack dirt, then put it back in the crafting grid to make Rammed dirt. it actually has a pretty unique look. Also also, you can replant cat tail roots. so you can transplant them to make a farm of them. LOL also also also there's a mod "Noisy bears" you may want to look at. 😆
Timmy, You can use a knife on the reed roots to harvest the roots. You can then plant those roots wherever you want. So you can make a little section that has all the reed roots you've collected on your journeys that you can harvest whenever they're ready!
That’s what I tend to do on start once I’ve got 4 baskets as backpacks, any reed, tule or papyrus I see I tend to take the roots with me until I find a suitable spot to settle
one of my favourite things about vintage story is how as you progress in technology, your base slowly evolves as well with more sophisticated materials / chiseled blocks / decorations. It makes your home feel truly lived in and I think your base has the foundation to look really cool as you progress
It's kinda interesting actually, I always play with friends and our first structure is normally always a log box then it quickly turns into something more sophisticated.
On the other hand, dirt houses were a pretty normal thing way back in the day. Mix clay, water, and straw together and you get cob, layer that cob around a wooden frame and add a roof (probably thatch or shingle, maybe sod) and that's about it. Think of it as being an unfired brick house, and unlike brick it probably won't survive extreme weather conditions, but at least it's shelter from the rain.
I completely agree with being unable to build with dirt in the early game lol. Like should i be spending more time getting copper rather than trying to make a cute wattle+daub house with a thatch roof? Sure but dammit i want something cute to live in not a dirt cube
Best element of this game, unlike most survival games; in which there's only so many ways it can be played that won't lead to game ending failure, but with VS I've seen so many different approaches applied. From the wisest min/max strategist to the carefree opportunist with a short attention span, still end up with a livable base and sufficient resource to survive.
A few things: 1. that solid rock ruin you found is one of a rarer type of ruin, generally referred to as ancient ruins. they're implied to be from neolithic cultures predating even the medieval cultures that used alchemy and such in the distant past. 2. if this is on 1.20 or later, i wonder how you'll react on meeting the new enemies :) 3. highly recommend breaking those berry bushes and placing them closer to your base, preferably somewhere secure. not having to hike out to them is a big time saver. 4. for your bear problem, you can trap the bear in a pit and just ignore it. from what i'm aware of, new bears and wolves don't spawn until the previous ones are slain, so just trapping it and letting it starve will keep you from being menaced by more for a while. 5. if you're down to use mods, i think you'd get a lot out of OneRoof
In 1:20 fireclay only spawns in bauxite sand, I think. I heard under coal to. But you can make fireclay baking and crushing flint. I am building with walnut planks and rammed earth in my base. Looks good together. They have added quite a few new blocks. Wattle and daub, Diamond patterned blocks (requires hammer and chisel), and you might like the fanned cobble (7 stones, sand, and gravel in top corners).
Damn these bears… btw 0.00003 spawn chance, lucky you. An idea for your building. Check the logs in the handbook. since 1.20 you can easyly craft a new variant. It have even crossed logs for the edges.
So, bears. My advise with them is a four block tall noob pole and 10 spears. If you throw them while the bear is directly under you there's a chance the spears will hit twice.
Quick tip: when crafting stuff like andesite cobblestone, if you hold your left mouse button on the crafting grid and move over the spaces you want to put the stones, it will automatically distribute equal amounts of stone in the spots you hover over. If you hold right mouse button instead of left, it will put 1 of said item.
I have been binge watching your Vintage Story content for the last couple of days. Doing so has been one of the main reasons that I decided to buy the game. I have also subscribed. Thanks, man! Keep up the great work. Your content is really solid.
I love this game but with how realistic it is, it feels so weird how the bears and wolves seek you out like that. It'd be so much more realistic if they had like an area or something that was their "home" and they only got into your face if you entered it.
Im loving this series! Im new to VS so in addition to the inherent comfiness of this series, its been nice to watch and learn about the game, so i know what go do in my own save For example: dont put logs right next to a pit kiln ;)
id love to play vintage story but i think its too complex/serious for me, so i was searching around for someone to sub to who plays it and i saw youve just started a new playthrough of it! perfect timing for me :) really funny that youtube tags this as minecraft too!
I see you splitting stacks of stones a lot. If you hold left click while dragging a stack over any type of inventory slot it will distribute the stack evenly. Edit: also you should start saving up pelt, you can make the next inventory upgrade with it (hunter bags thingy) and also they can be used for some winter clothing.
@@tehNashty yk how mc youtubers make museums with different mobs in them? yeah. i'd put them in cages with classic "do not feed" and "don't tap on the glass" signs

@@Naplingbat, he only went 13k blocks south from the middle of temperate latitude (0, 0), which is not even sub-tropics yet. it's a bug, it was patched recently, so im assuming timmy hasn't updated his game yet lol i didnt even know you can trim bushes before this bug, i was deeply upset that every of my pretty bushy bushes on my property were turning square and ugly when i collected berries from them

Oh lord, I just about had a heart attack when that bear attacked you from behind.
That's truly un- bearable 🥁

@11:23 you see the bear moving by, right below the mini map.
Let's say, there was slight suspension afterwards

I've seen those weird ruins of pure stone before in my own saves and to me they look almost like the petrified ribs of some massive creature.
Bears drown pretty easily, try to head for water if they chase you
I'm pretty sure they changed that in 1.20
The wolf howling at the start activated my instinct to eliminate it at all cost.
I was thinking he needs some wolf and bear pit traps. If you kill them, they just respawn...

Use quarter logs for decor (or else)
You can make both debarked and quarter logs for texturing.
Man I've been satisfied with ur videos!
Looking forward to when you discover the new quarter logs
Based video.
Yeah this video is mostly at his base 😅
Idea find berry bushes and replace them by your base also remember that mushrooms also respwan
15:55 i think it;s because you tried to use blue clay and not fire clay
Fyi u can craft dirt (multiple times) together for simple early build Blocks.
The locals sure are a crazy bunch
Dang, I hope your animal husbandry endeavors don't end up being a bear attraction 😂
I had bears killing my sheep and pigs through the fence! I had to make a DMZ area and raise the fence 2 high!!!
Okay, gotta say, knowing there was a Bear and Wolves around you REALLY should have been doing that planning *inside* your home instead of outside
You should make some armor out of firewood and some fiber or whatever the grass is called
Thank you for the video
you can cook tule roots if i remember right

Its like Minecraft, but with more depth and immersion 😊
Replanted Cattails do regrow. Maybe you faced a bug in your older playthrough.
wincing at the crops not surround by a fence, the rabbits will eat....
You're never safe.... Remember the demons that love to come into your domicile.
You should make a wathering can
Nice pear tree on right side at 8:29
u should pin that too
Is this on 1.19? Got surprised seeing you use fire clay to make a pot, considering its rarer now
How about a tree-windmill combo
That would look cool!
