As someone who grew up with distribution events in gen 4 and 5 the way I generally learned of a distribution coming was simply just going to gamestop and asking an employee if there were any distributions coming up and they'd even tell me of Toys R Us distribution events
4:16 For the Victini event, they put an insert into the box that explained how to get it. I legit remembered this and checked my copy (which I got ONE DAY after the event ended) and sure enough…the insert was there.
Old pokemon distributions were really cool. You unlocked a new whole little story / zone / pokemon that you had to discover / capture. Now you just click a button and got a new pokemon in your box that'll never see the sun.
Part of me wonders if the Celestial Tower glitch was actually remnants of a debugging feature? It's way too specific yet also way too convenient for it to just be a random glitch. This feels like Game Freak assigning a button during the debugging process that lets them skip any unnecessary trainers, so that they can get through it faster. When the debugging period ended and they removed the debug code from most parts of the game, I'm guessing they just forgot to remove the code from those two floors specifically as they looked too similar to the second floor for anyone to notice.
I have a different theory: in the games whenever you run in front of a trainer they will immediately face you in order to fight you (likely an attempt from the devs to punish players who rush through the game with no thought) so it's possible that they just screwed that up somehow and caused the glitch
The reason why your bike stopped sometimes when running around Castelia's NPCs is because there are a few of them you can actually run into. They even have programmed dialog and it changes depending on if you're playing BW or BW2.
The book case and interaction zone for the dialog are 2 seperate objects altough the book case is animated, the interaction zone isn't and only seem to move if the book cass is fully moved, if you interupt this process both objects are no longer in sync causing this bug it seems
With the Vicitini event in particular, I remember the game actually having a pamphlet included with it telling you how to get the Liberty Ticket. I think these old events were EXTREMELY cool. It's so lame just connecting to Wi-Fi to get the Pokemon sent to your box these days, all of which also have a similar, short window to get these exclusive Pokemon.
tbh even if it were only mentioned online, I definitely checked the Pokemon website whenever I had internet access as a kid. They were pretty good about letting people know about events there.
I mean, what you described still has the thing he was complaining about. mythical pokemon felt much more special when they had whole cutscenes and areas rather than just being mystery gifted to you, but it still stings knowing that it was only available for a week or so. especially when there is cool content locked behind it
The lights make so much sense, because its literally a light source, causing the shadow to become lighter in the middle! But, i feel like, because of the fence overlap, the lights arent considered the light tile [or maybe the devs didnt put it there because they thought the fences would block it] so they didn't put lights there. Either way, really cool that the lights do that
For the Castelia Street Bike Clips, I don't know if it's really presented as part of the glitch but the bike coming to a halt against some NPCs is intended. Some of them actually have a hitbox, and I think they thought that some people would just waster their time trying to crash into them so they one to some random NPCs and they also have a dialogue.
With the hole in relic castle, it was probably some dev that forgot to map that specific tile to be impassable or made a misclick. iirc movement permissions are painted per tile and there exists a similar glitch in Pokestar studios where one tile was accidentally painted as a surfable surface
I remember when black and white came out, i randomly messed around in the mystery gift menu not even being able to read english because im european and they didn't bother translating the game some countries here. Go figure i managed to click recieve mystery gift over the wifi and got the liberty pass
also for the trick room speed glitch, im pretty sure that because official events are played at lv50, it's impossible to gain enough speed to trigger it
How people knew about Victini? Because there was a thing in the box telling you to get the pass, of course! And I bought the game half a year too late and it still had the thing in the box. 😂 I was really annoyed. Of course, now in the age of me only replaying these games on emulator, I now know that there is a cheat code to give me the pass and activate the event to get this event Victini at any time...and it is 100% going to be a legal Pokemon because the game is just generating it how it is supposed to.(though tbh, not like legality matters when iirc, Wifi emulation and extended are not a thing yet.) Edit: Skydrop was banned in these games because of the "disable the enemy-bug". So yeah, probably not used in competitive a lot 💀
They're supposed to react to your running near them, not to the button being pressed. And even then, only if you're close enough to them, I'm pretty sure.
@@CWillyHD They also move in challenger's cave as well. Chuggaaconroy got stuck by the NPCs moving and didn't know how to move them (press B), so had to reset.
I feel like the old lady talking slow is more of an Easter egg than a glitch I think it was entirely intentional. Even though the sprite is recycled, this specific character in the game is a s l o w t a l k i n g old lady
with the glitch in the city if you go more up towards the next route there are also people running there and if you stand still sometimes instead of an npc going past you they stop and are stuck behind you and you can interact with them as well
1:57 possibly I think for this glitch it's that the game proposes a scenario asking “what would happen if the player interacted with this tile” (in order to fail safe any game breaking bugs that might occur when interacting with tiles) The game takes the existing information of “it will display this text” (the book text) and decides that THAT will happen with interacting with that specific tile. All speculation though
I remember vividly there being commercials that advertised the Victini event upon the release of Black and White. There was a high chance anyone who was looking forward to this game and watching like Cartoon Network or something would've seen the commercials promoting Black and White with the additional info at the end of the commercial promoting Victini, the first Psychic/Fire type (yes, I remember all of this from like 13 years ago somehow)
Accessing the Gen4/5 event areas isn't really an issue anymore thanks to the DNS glitch, so whilst the distribution method absolutely sucks, thank god it's no longer a problem and people can still legitimately access these areas.
Pfft at 20:00, if you noticed Bidoof has the moveset of "Roar Of Time", "Spatial Rend", "Dark Void", and "Sheer Cold". Truly Proves that this lil guy is the Most Strongest Pokemon out there.
For the lady at 8:59, there's a function within BW's script text that changes dialogue speed. N has this, making his dialogue faster than the player's choice. The woman's dialogue in the files is as follows: [SPEED(2)]People who visited the Entralink hid items somewhere... The Entralink is unique, isn't it?[SPEED(0)] So it starts by slowing down her text than resetting to the original speed after the conversation ends. Definitely put in intentionally and a very cool little character quirk. Makes sense to have an older character speak slowly after all. Outside of N, this is the only other instance of a character speaking at a different speed in BW. Neat.
I was watching your let’s go glitch video and I realised I know of one Pokémon that works really well with the cave lighting glitch and it’s melmetal as it shifts to a gold colour, I’ve spotted this with my shiny one so I don’t know if this works with a normal one or not
In accumula town make one or both musicians play their instruments to the town's music, then get on your bike. The bike theme will override the town theme. Now leave the town while on your bike then come right back. What will happen? I won't ruin the surprise.
To be fair with the Victini thing much like the Torchic in X/Y the box came with a bit of paper showing victini and how to obtain it at least in the UK
I'm not so sure the Celestial Tower thing is a complete glitch. I feel like the Psychic trainers were definitely meant to turn around when you pressed B as if they're reading your thoughts, similar to the trainers in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald at route 119 that would copy and mirror your movement. My guess is that what is glitched or an oversight could be that in an earlier version of the game the 3rd and 4th floors were meant to be all Psychic trainers, and that the Ace trainers were meant to be on the 2nd floor.
Hm. For the celestial tower bit, some trainers are programmed to look in your direction if you are running. I’m guessing they just aren’t programmed correctly to look in your direction?
I'm no expert on how these games work internally, but judging by the pattern that was going on before, I think I know what was going on with the bookshelf and it's actually quite a bit simpler -- and a lot dumber. Likely, the graphics for the shelf, the collision tiles, and the interactable tiles that determine what happens when it's interacted with are all separate entities. Before you save, both of these entities are moved correctly, so if you just keep going, you won't notice the glitch. However, when you save, only the new position for the graphics and collision are saved, for whatever reason. So when you go back and reload the save, the game remembers where the graphics are, but still thinks the interactable tiles are in their old positions. The game is making false assumptions, but not ones so sophisticated as "if the player is still in this room with no badge, this item hasn't moved yet".
I think the use for the word glitch here is very liberal. I think of glitch to mean intended mechanics working together in unintended ways. The majority of these seem like just minor coding oversights, forgetting to account for small and rare situations
These games don't really have many useful glitches (unfortunately). It's not like the 1st gen, where you can become GOD with just 1 glitch.I love games, but I love glitches in games even more, and if a game doesn't have glitches, then I'll probably get bored of it quickly (or not).

You can still get the Liberty Garden pass event, just connect online to the Wiimfii servers with any DS or 3DS, doable with any normal console.
As someone who grew up with distribution events in gen 4 and 5 the way I generally learned of a distribution coming was simply just going to gamestop and asking an employee if there were any distributions coming up and they'd even tell me of Toys R Us distribution events
I'm sure you were a happy boy to know about new events back then.
I hated those days because there were no gamestops near me.
Imagine not living in the US lmao
Why didn’t you just google it

about the sky drop glitch; due to that sky drop was banned in both vgc 2011 and 2012

There are a couple of other NPCs who mess with the text speed, the old lady is just one of those

the trainers look around when you press b cause it's the run button. it's the trainer ai to counter running past, similar to hikers in emerald.
