This movie is actually genuinely phenomenal. I remember seeing it when I was a kid and being blown away. It only had a 30 million dollar budget which is insane with the level of effects it had even in 2009. Peter Jackson produced it so what do you expect? 🤷♂
Movie name?

@@applesupercilious9285 thanks 😄
really? speace ship that crossed light years to get there.. and they are dumb? wtf?
@@pedroaboffa Remember they speculated that these were the workers of that civilization. They were probably not the sharpest tools in the shed. But hey, maybe the engineers, innovators and rulers of their home planet sent these as scouts to other planets but something went wrong and they got stranded. Think about it, only CJ seemed to be smarter and less impulsive than the others and he could build a spaceship out of a friggin house and had skills to even operate the mothership. Funny movie though but if CJ got the others to work with him and possibly with human supervising, they could have gotten the fluid earlier and left collectively with an easier transition.
"Low IQ" aliens that proceeded to re-engineer their lost technology using junkyard scraps, while at the same time humans trample each other over black Friday television sets.
It's not really explained here but all the aliens remained within the ships with many of them starving. Also Christopher and I think Paul aswell turn out to be like commanders of the prawns which only really started fixing the issue once they were out of the ship.
Also they’re so “low iq” that they were able to space travel inter-galactically while humans couldn’t even go past the moon.
I figured the government made the low iq stuff up. They just saw desperate people and figured they could make them work.
They're worker aliens. But there was one scientist type alien in that movie but it died.
A lot of people here are missing the point. The aliens are _at least_ as smart as humans. Probably smarter. This story is a obvious allegory for racism & apartheid.
Sure, not all the aliens are bonafide geniuses like CJ, but they're all clearly intelligent.
The issue is that humans paint them as not intelligent because of the cultural gap & because they are trapped in ghettos with no resources.
The humans also purposely blind themselves to the alien's intelligence because it's in the humans' interests to do so. That's the only way they can justify stealing from them and committing atrocities against them.
The "eggs" scene is so probably the single most significant scene in the movie and is not included in the summary.
It's such a bummer that they never made a sequel to this ☹️
you know it's still in developement right? production took a blow when the pandemic hit but it's confirmed to still be in development.
@@MiniMcNellis would be great to see the follow up movie.
@@pigseye2 we will, it’s called District 10! We’re all hyped!

As far as Alien movies go it is top tier. Not another alien movie with such a great story line and to Incorporate such realistic situation of another country was brilliant.
wtf is wrong with you?@@delta1088
This was an excellent movie!
One of the best yet highly underrated movie since 2000. The design of the aliens is so different yet believable, the spl effects aren't campy, the atmosphere is so real & gritty & the story is also quite engaging. If there's any movie that deserves a sequel then it's this.
Given that it took $30Mil to create and they made a profit of almost $200Mil it's truly a surprise why they haven't
@@nobertstanel9428 he did Chappie afterwards, which was so bad imo
Aliens different?
This is a Half-Life spoof.
@@PercocetPete _Chappie_ was a great film.
this would actually be INSANE in real life... imagine going to meet your buddy John for the first time after playing CoD together all those years, and turns out he's an alien... bro...

Might explain all those 360 no scopes with the intervention
human fking sucks anyway
hopefully he's friendly in real life as he is on the game
7:48 its hilarious how they are sneaking in by blowing up the front entrance 😅
The movie contains a lot of metaphors and hidden symbols related to discrimination, racism, apartheid, but still is an entertaining Sci-Fi movie. This really impressed me.
Fun fact: There is a short film prequel were people on the street are questioned on their opinions about the aliens. Turns out the film makers asked real persons in Joburg about their opinion about immigrated workers from NIgeria (which seems to be a much discussed topic in South Africa) and cut their answers into the short movie.
it's not very hidden bro, the fact that it takes place in south africa is just the cherry on top of how obvious it is
The title Is a black people joke bc this is za. Based
@@stoneman_00the video title though... He's /ourguy o/
This is the best movie I watched as a kid.
It was so realistic that I thought district 9 was a real place in SA. I had to research it and although I kept seeing it was a movie, I was convinced it was a real place(I genuinely thought I watched a documentary not a movie, lol)
I saw it as a kid as well and was very saddened by it. My dad explained to me it had themes of apartheid, but also the reality of societies within human populations with varying IQ levels.
Hey, if there really are an infinite number of parallel universes/realities...then literally every movie ever made is a documentary of a real alternate reality out there somewhere in the multiverse! 😊
@@psychicrenegade Yes but that is quite terrifying to think about. By the way, maybe some of the terrifying ones could be like pseudorealities or more dreamlike, not tangibly actualized but still being real in their own right. That's how I could subjectively accept some of the more bizarre and potentially unpleasant situations!
They shot it in an actual Township near Joburg.
I have had seen it as adult 😂 and I understand it as "documentary" if aliens lands here in South Africa. Everybody how known the history of this place with white intelligent settler, dark not-dumb malays, and black dumb africans realized the realistic of this all very fast. Yeah, it is a movie but with a wonderful story plot about people and friendships and love and divorces between different species. Here are the alien not bad and the human not friendly! 😮 I have had wish me that they "figure it more out" as longer movie to detail more things, e.g. why not dog food a.s.o.
The special effects in this movie is amazing. It has such a low budget too! Amazing movie, wish I didn't watch it on TV tho because they cut out all the blood and cussing 🤣
Can't believe it's a shithole movie.
This movie is actually great and smartly done. The fact that they made the movie like a documentary type made this Alien scifi movie one of a kind and remarkable.
And not gonna lie, I cried on some part of the movie.
I love the film uses a documentary type of filmmaking it makes it look and feel more captivating and real. I just hate how disturbing it is tho
As if actual aparteid was any less depraved

A true classic of its time
Reminds me of Alien Nation.
@@jessrosefawkes2721 it's similar in that an alien ship ends up stranded on earth and aliens get treated like shit by humans. There was also a tv series but start with the original movie
I still wish they made a sequel to this, Elysium and Chappie were more stand alone films but this one definitely warranted a sequel.

Such a great take on an alien "invasion"
Such a great movie. 10/10
aliens have low IQ:
also aliens come far from 10 lightyears in a gigantic spaceship just to be rulled by humans
They are just workers(or maybe slaves for some high tech race). No one knows if the prawn race even made those ships or why the ship ended up on earth.
Closest star system is Alpha Centauri at 4,367 lightyears so they didn't travel only 10 lightyears to reach Earth. They show up in a giant spacecraft with no food and are instantly made low class "citizens" of Earth. Yea I'd say they're pretty unintelligent beings if they failed to have enough food to last their journey, didn't bother having a section of their ship be dedicated to agriculture and failed to keep their population in control. Given the fact that the weapons only operate with their touch and the tech only recognizes them as friendlies I think you might be able to rule out them being slaves to a more intelligent species. The ship seems to be meant more for industrial use rather than agriculture or colonization yet the sheer size of it should suggest it would be some what self reliant especially if its purpose is deep space mining.
@@hrnytinoker4146 Alpha Centauri is only about 4.2 light-years away
I guess Prawns are like insects or other animals with an alpha which is the commander or a superior rank of species which surely built and plan that spacecraft .That prawns are likes slaves from illegal trafficking, which their commanders are planning to transport them in a new colony
@@Jayistheway99 Still more than 10 light years.
Very effective use of CGI and SFX to enhance and support a great allegory with thought-provoking themes And to do it on a fraction of a Marvel budget is remarkable. This movie is a modern sci-fi classic!
This movie has such a profound effect on me and made me care for beings I never thought I would. I love movies like this that make me question my thoughts and ideals of other's

I love this movie. Its a firm reminder of the hatered that can exist for communities that are othered. As an African American, I love how this shows that black people are not exempt from this, despite our own history of oppression and colonization.
Its also a firm reminder that when you nation/race/species is involved in oppression, you stand up against them... even if you become othered.
I’m oppressed too, a poor working white man with no help from the government.

always so sad they never made sequel to this movie, i remember seeing it when i was in high school, still one of best movies i ever saw
As a South African, I love this film. The director draws a lot of parallels from real world issues here in SA and puts them into the movie.
i loved this show, saw it long ago.
Been waiting 14 years for a sequel.
Probably the best Alien Movie out there since it perfectly shows the true nature of humans.
If Alien invaders can't destroy humanity, humans will be the one who destroys them or make use of them.
Especially the discrimination and racism in this is a relevant aspect of the movie.
if they are dumb it kinda makes you wander how they would be able to build that ship lol
They are likely a hive-like species, and only the drones remained, the ones who designed and controlled the ships might have died.
Just look at us 95% are shockingly dumb
Its said in the movie that the aliens we see are only workers and don't possess the intelligence to make sophisticated tech. thats also why paul's home for the fluid looked like a drug operation he wasn't smart enough to streamline it / make it look prettier.
It's said right at the beginning of the video AND the movie....
The prawns that are left are just the worker class. Most of them are not intelligent.
@@praevasc4299 but the thing they still were able to land on earth and fly the ship i know we could do that lol

One of the most underrated sci fi movies ever. Still hoping for a sequel.
District 9 is breathtaking, with groundbreaking and stunning visual effects. It ranks up there with Blade Runner.
perhaps the most underrated film of all time and one of my favourites. action, human drama, government conspiracy and race politics all perfectly entwined. i believe this was Blomkamps first film and he was also a co-writer. unbelievable, really.

I remember seeing this one as a kid. I was really sad for the prawns; I can still feel that way now. They look really depressed and innocent, almost as if they're blameless for what have happened. Even though it has some bad effects, it's an incredibly well-rounded movie with a very interesting background to it. It is as if it's speaking about the current affairs we have in some places right now.

5:45 Doing the dirty with the prawns?!?! What's wrong with the media lmfao XDDD😂😂
I loved this movie! Except for all the trauma, gore, and harmful parts
These aliens were PRAWN READY
Fun fact: Most of the equipment you see, or props in the movie was mainly destined to be in the original Halo movie that was cut off and cancelled by Bungie, had a friend who I think went to either New Zealand or Australia, experienced a full warehouse of this stuff, full sized warthogs, plasma weapons etc. The same goes for Elysium, the 'Ring' CGI as well as all the re-purposed vehicles and props are all halo based, same like the weapons in District 9. Imagine if they had used it for that? Instead of the shit we got today. Never the less, two AMAZING films, that would not have existed without the original full scale resources put into making Halo items and world building methods.
They were prawns break thru in EL PASO TX the other day 😂
3:39 looks like they got some schnitzels
It's my favorite SF movie, Enemy Mine (1985) a great second. :)

Not even 1 minute into the video, I've already figured out humans imposed apartheid over the aliens LMAO!
The title of this video couldn't be more wrong. It plays against the point of the film.
Pretty common trend among these recaps, either due to primitive ai with bad prompts or just clickbait
I just loved this movie. I’m glad they didn’t make a sequel. I would have watched it. But it would’ve lost the underlying meaning of the original story. Maybe. Maybe not. It’s just what happens with sequels most of the time.
