This one always brings a smile to my face from the moment I heard it over 40 years ago..Only one man to sing it and that's Jimmy with that great auld Cork accent .Up The Rebels
Called "the rebels" because the English settlers of Cork city backed the English pretender Perkin Warbeck against the English king Henry VII, father of Henry VIII.
Pure legend of a singer. Reminds me of going down to Sherkin Island in the car in the early 90s. 6 of in stuffed into the back of the car singing. We had great sport back then.
I wonder what will we do, my shoulder boy. They taxed the butter, sir right of way my shoulder boy. When the war is over, they put us in the family line. Sailet keep your eye
While I was working with some people in Holland the co owner, Wiel, said at the regular coffee drinking session every morning that he has gone by plane somewhere or other and has brought back duty free a bottle of Paddy Irish whiskey. Later on when I got suspicious of them I realised he was asking if I was sympathetic to the cause of the IRA freedom fighter's. I replied that I was by buying two cds of Irish songs, one of which includes this one.
Isn't that the famous Eoin O'Riabhaigh on de pipes? Eoin "Rabies" O'Riabhaigh... how did the poor man get that quaint nickname? I remember those duffle coat Cork Uni concerts..! Pure folk music heaven.

Soldier boy... A song centered around world war one , particularly the campaigns in Turkei.
