    Bought a GS four years ago after watching this video. Since then I’ve used it pretty much daily for commuting and errands - including through winter.
    This thing hasn’t put a foot wrong in that time, and it’s just come back from a service feeling like new so I’m confident I’ll get many more years out of it. As petrol hits £2/litre the case for electric bikes becomes more and more compelling…
    Although the GS is no longer manufactured it is still supported- something to bear in mind if considering a cheaper option from a “fly by night” company.
    When collecting my GS I had the opportunity to try the G4. That moves the game on significantly - the new motor is remarkable and of course it is now a fast folder.
    I can’t think of a better way to get around a city…

    I WAS leaning towards the Lectric Bike but at over 60 pounds I could already feel my 73 year old body hurting as I wrestled with it putting it into my car. I was NEVER the strongest kid on the block. I could live with a bike in the 30-40 pound range so I'll keep watching UA-cam vids like yours! Nice job!

    Well mine arrived yesterday and I've been out on it for the first time today.
    Absolutely blown away by the experience. The low centre of gravity, small wheels, fat tyres and upright seating position make it the perfect urban bike, ideal for filtering through traffic and making a speedy getaway at lights and junctions.
    It is apparent how much thought has gone into the design of this thing, and the quality just shines through. It's pricey but worth every penny. This isn't a conventional bike with a battery shoehorned on; it's like they started with a blank piece of paper and completely rethought the bike.
    Only one issue - I could do with a longer top gear. Electric bikes are limited to 15.5mph in the EU, and over that speed I'm spinning just bit too fast. But this is a minor issue, and a consequence of regulations not the Gocycle's capabilities.
    The lights are good quality, integrate into the frame well and I'd say are essential - if only because they are powered by the bike's battery so will never die on you. I haven't used the front pannier yet, just fiddled round with it. It's very quick and easy to mount and remove with some very handy external pockets. However I don't really mind a backpack, and the pannier is a little pricey - even with the current 10% discount. Mudguards haven't arrived yet - they must have had a run on them... 😀
    The way this thing looks and rides at a price that is premium but not outrageous makes me think it could kick start interest in ebikes, particularly from people like me who had never previously considered one (have been very happy with my CX which I intend to keep). Ebikes have the potential to transform transport in cities - I understand this clearly now having ridden one - and this product could be an important milestone on that journey.
    Thanks again for the review which encouraged me to make a leap of faith and buy a pricey bike without seeing it. It was absolutely the right decision

    • @electrifiedreviews
      @electrifiedreviews  6 років тому

      Nice! That's awesome to hear. I also felt like I my cadence was a bit fast when trying to pedal beyond 20 mph. Glad you enjoyed the review and thanks for the feedback!

      Funinhounslow How´s the bike holding on?

    • @Funinhounslow
      @Funinhounslow 6 років тому +1

      Still absolutely loving it - even in the foulest winter weather! Have swapped the stock tyres for Schwalbe Big Bens for improved puncture resistance - not that swapping out a tube at the side of the road would be a big deal with the ingenious wheels.
      I find I am using it far more than I thought - do not underestimate the advantages of being able to cycle in everyday clothes and getting to your destination fresh and relaxed.
      I do wish regulations in the UK would allow a greater top speed of 15.5mph - to maintain a speed above this means I am spinning a bit too fast.
      But in short I struggle to think of any other ways that this thing could be improved. When you live with this bike the amount of thought that has gone into it is apparent. It is just a wonderful way to get around town.

    Does no fenders means no riding in the rain? I would pay the price it costs and even more if they bicycles to “commute” that can actually be ride in the rain. I am sorry if I am being a bit unrealistic, but commuting also means bad weather. I wouldn’t say I would ride it in the snow but at least in a cloudy day with a bit of rain would be something that someone like me would not mind to do as a commuter.

    Amazing engineering and despair...for my needs with multi-modal transportation...Folding is slow (2min)and painful..OK if you want to put in a case and otherwise impractical to bring into office or transit

    • @electrifiedreviews
      @electrifiedreviews  6 років тому +2

      Ya the engineering on these things is incredible. Super precision for everything. But I agree the folding is a bit slow compared to something that uses just a quick release lever. Of course, the upside is the increased rigidity and stability when it's actually in use.

    The new GX seems to address 2 of the biggest issues with the GS. Firstly you can really fold the frame. Secondly, the battery is removable so you can charge it easily or even rotate batteries if needed. This bike is incredibly expensive but the quality is outstanding and the foldability means you can stash it under your desk at work or at home. It's perfect for my 4-mile London commute. I can travel in my work clothes, no need for a shower on the other side. It quickly folds and lives in the corner of the office while the battery charges.

    A really good review would be to take on some hills. One user indicated this bike can easily handle a 10% grade, I'd like to see that. Being from San Francisco, this bike does not have the best battery size to give the +30 mile range i now have with my $1600 e-bike.
    I need ergo handlebars, these are scooter bars and a user mentioned the steering is smooth, especially on most non-perfect roads. This wheel, handlebars, overall size primarily were chosen for the folding feature and not for the best riding performance.
    The bike is off my list.

    I’m enjoying the bike so far ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

    I’ve been following GoCycle for a while. Is the G3 worth the extra cost? What are you losing with the GS? It looks like used G3 are similar in cost to new GS. Which would be better?Another thing holding me back is the non-removable battery. We would be taking the bike on road trips and I would want to keep it in the car but take the battery up to the hotel to recharge.

    • @electrifiedreviews
      @electrifiedreviews  6 років тому

      I couldn't say about the G3 as I haven't personally tested, but I recommend checking out Court Rye's review on the G3 here: electricbikereview.com/gocycle/g3/

      Have a look here gocycle.com/main-differences-gocycle-g3-gocycle-gs/
      You lose the auto gears and fancy dash and DRL but it seems motor and battery are the same. Also the GS has a few exposed wires which is not the case with the G3.

    • @iLloydski
      @iLloydski 6 років тому

      The Gocycle G3 is higher priced than the GS. The Gocycle GS has a mechanical shifter whereas the G3 has electronic shifting. There are some external cable routings on the Gocycle GS whereas all cables are internal on the G3. The G3 has electronic rotary power and shift controls, and an integrated LED dash board display that shows speed, efficiency, battery state of charge, and gear selection. The G3 comes with an automotive style integrated daytime running light using light pipe technology. The G3 comes in single colours including metalic blue and mat black. G3 also has premium comfort grips, seat, and pedals. The G3 handlebar stem is adjustable in height and reach.

      Agreed. I was really just moving my feet, not putting too much torque on the cranks. And that's kind of the rub with doing range tests... it all depends on the individual rider. You could probably get a lot more miles out of it than me. :)

      Have been lusting after a G3 but simply couldn't afford it. GS is discounted through October (£300 off) so had to make a decision pretty quickly.
      Your v informative and entertaining review told me everything I needed to know.
      In particular most of the publicity for this bike shows it being cycled sedately by the beach etc - I wanted to know if this thing was suitable for the cut and thrust of a city commute (which is my main intended use) - it's clear from your review It'll be fine.
      This will be a nice complement to my ageing CX. It looks like it came out of a science fiction film or something - if it rides half as good as it looks I'll be happy.

    • @electrifiedreviews
      @electrifiedreviews  6 років тому

      +Funinhounslow Awesome! That's great to hear. What color combo did you get? And did you grab the front headlamp? I'm curious to know how the beam pattern is on that thing.

    • @Funinhounslow
      @Funinhounslow 6 років тому +2

      Black/grey as shown in the review - I like the stealthy look!
      Accessories are 10% off through October too so went for the lights, front pannier and mudguards (the latter are essential in London!)
      Considering the issues I've had with mudguards on my CX seeing the way the GS's mudguards just snap on almost like Lego was a revelation. I''m happy to pay the premium for bespoke accessories if they're as thoughtfully designed as this.
      Front light seems set quite low so I plan to have a flashing LED on the handlebars as well to grab drivers' attention.

    • @electrifiedreviews
      @electrifiedreviews  6 років тому

      +Funinhounslow That's great. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the pannier rack, mudguards and headlamp when you get them! I normally use my Bright As Day headlamps for my bikes but I like how sleek and integrated all the Gocycle accessories are so if the stock headlamp is workable I might end up just using that.

    Great review of the Gocycle GS. I am the lucky one of owning one. I am glad to hear that range is around 17 miles. I am getting an average of 15 miles (6 to 22 miles) with max electric use. More details of the trips available at docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-gFDeLZdLUZeZvBC86dhTgi0ryzMFwNf80w-juEC9cs
    Another thing to improve is the battery accuracy, when the battery reaches 10%, the motor won't function. Then, the battery may jump up to 20% and the motor will suddenly kick-in for a few seconds until the battery goes back to 10%. This will repeat several times.
    2 weeks in, I am really happy!

    • @electrifiedreviews
      @electrifiedreviews  6 років тому

    36 pounds is not light. 26 pounds would be light. There are competitive ebikes out there now that are in the 24 to 26 pound range with a lot of these features, except suspension. Is suspension worth 10 pounds? Maybe, maybe not.

    What about Batterie that is not removeable & I am not sure if it is possible to get a BMS or Li-Ion error fixed. Especialy lazy older people who might forget to charge it at least every 6 months, will Kill the Batt.

    • @electrifiedreviews
      @electrifiedreviews  6 років тому

      The battery's integration into the frame just basically means it can't be charged separately from the bike, which might be an issue for some people who are limited on space and don't want to bring the bike into their home, or if they want to charge it at the office or wherever. Still, because this bike is relatively small and lightweight and because it can be folded, it does mitigate that some.

  • @beatsandboots
    @beatsandboots 6 років тому +2

    You've talked so much and you repeated some information multiple times, but somehow you "forgot" to mention that the battery is not removable, can only be charged in the bicycle and needs to be replaced in an authorized dealership, because it's proprietary. This makes your video more an advertisement than a review.

    • @electrifiedreviews
      @electrifiedreviews  6 років тому +1

      Good point, Ivan. Yes, the batteries cannot be removed and must be charged along with the bike just as you mentioned. I think this is less of a problem than with other electric bikes with non-removable batteries however due to the very small folded size.

    • @beatsandboots
      @beatsandboots 6 років тому +1

      Brent McCluskey - Electrified Reviews My point is, when you talk for more than 17mins, but you do not mention the non removable, proprietary battery, it makes your video appear as what it probably is: an advertisement, but not a review. It damages the credibility of your channel.

      Sorry I was grumpy. I'm an asshole in my off-time when I know nobody can put me on check mode.

      no worries at all, Alexander. it was a good point and you were right. im always trying to learn/improve from one video to the next, so feedback is always welcome :)

    Range is just too small, and not being able to release the battery is an issue

      ya if you're looking for more of a long-distance commuter electric bike this one might not be the best choice for ya.

    Replacement battery retails for $900 and gocycle will not sell you internal repair parts!

    why are you using a 22V motor?
    everything sounds great but that is a huge red flag to me
    no offense intended

    I was very disappointed with this video because
    you did not show how to fold the bike and remove the tires
    to make it compact, which is one of it's main advantage.

      good point, Just Sayin. we've learned a lot since this video and now we make sure to fold up and unfold electric bikes in our reviews.

      yikes. bummer. ya the UK has more stringent laws than the US but i'm pretty sure this bike is legal over there as well.

    • @JamesPhillipsOfficial
      @JamesPhillipsOfficial 5 років тому

      It is legal even when it's not officially. What you do is cycle as normal on the flats then kick in the power uphill. At night people care even less because they are not around.
      You just have to be smart. Don't bomb along on the pavement or at busy times. What attracts attention to Police is dumb arrogant behaviour that aggravates others which leads to complaints which leads to getting heat
      It's simple, use the power only when you need it and never when you don't

    Stop lying for $2500 it's not everything you need. For $2500 give me 30mph and 80mile range. They want your hard earned money. That sake of money for a electric bike that will struggle to pull your weight around for a few hours in a day. Not ideal for me. If I have to charge this bike over night more then 8 hours. I wanna go fast and last at least 15hours of riding in a day. That's my $2500 working for me.

    • @electrifiedreviews
      @electrifiedreviews  6 років тому

      it has pretty much everything i need. maybe not for you. different strokes for different folks. if you find an electric bike that fits your specs, please let us know as that would be absolutely fantastic.

    Although single fork bikes are theoretically sound, they are not aesthetically pleasing, nor as history has proven not pleasing to buy.

      You can't say "they are not aesthetically pleasing" because aesthetics are subjective, I love the futuristic asymmetric look of it.
