When I was in High School, late 60’s,there was a guy that liked to customize VW Vans,he would cut about 2 or 3 feet out of the middle and weld them back together. They were very unmistakable in Clearwater. What a wheelie machine!
Had one late 60s. Both sides had doors. VW mechanic rebuilt motor, called it a varient, a crossover between 1100cc and1200cc. Said it was the best of both models.
Excellent video. I have a '66 T1 Deluxe I need to start working on. My work area is a little tight. I noticed that instead of the normal rotisserie or hoops you see on bus restorations, they had a more simple apparatus for tilting the vehicle. Can someone please tell me more and where I can find plans or buy a set? I'm thinking this setup would take less space. Thanks!
I saw the wood and said, what ? What are they doing and then, it's tilted, so much easier than going to samba and getting steel, cutting it, welding it and then tilting the bus...I'd have to get my buds over when we did this just in case I did not measure properly...
I wonder if anyone has redone a T1 Cargo but add in the the windows access the roof of the van keeping the panel's on the cargo van like in the 23 window van
1963 Chassis Numbers - 971551 > 1144281 1500cc engine is introduced, the front indicators are made larger to the 'fish eye style'. Panel vans are made available with a sliding door and the tailgate is enlarged as standard.
seeing the freshly painted doors in the light reflecting back, best part of painting ! IRS, sliding door, just nice.

What a lovely job, beautiful. 👍
I had a 59 windowless van like this in 1970. I so wish I still had it. I’d put a Subaru engine in it.
Muito linda está Kombi
Just perfect
Beautiful.
I had a 69 bay Westy that was 3000 times more rotted. If it had only been this bad I would have kept it. I miss that bus

making mine earlybay panel with a splitty face
Aplauso largo!
Awesome restoration. Just curious as to why this was not sandblasted to bare metal before mending the body work?
I've heard you can thin out the sheet metal past what you wanted as opposed to slow sanding or brush work.
