That’s what I call best customer service !! Thank you for this helpful video ! Cheers 🥂 from Athens Greece 🇬🇷
These guides are great. Thank you!!
Thanks for this. It was/still is very helpful. Tried all of your recommended pre-dive settings and some test shootings.
Any recommendations on a ring strobe?
I have been using a Sony RX 100 1st. generation for seven years now, but had allways problems with macro fotos ( using INON S 2000 strobe and Inon macro lense on a Nauticam housing)
So i am basically downgrading in terms of weight, number components and $$$
awesome video!
Hi, I would like to see a video of the fish underwater mode, macro setting. Is there a video for this please?
I just bought two numbers of Sea and Sea YS-D2, but I found there is no TTL when used with Olympus TG5. I set YS-D2 to DS-TTL mode and TG5 internal flash to RC but still no TTL. I would be grateful if you can advise how to solve the problem.
Great info, so once you do these settings, do you save it to say C1 and then default the camera back to normal on the P setting?
That’s how I do it, you are then able to preserve the settings and switch to them quickly when needed.
Thanks for this. Very helpful. Any thoughts for dual strobe? If I know I am only shooting macro, I take one but generally run two.
No real difference when shooting with two strobes, other than positioning and placement. We like using one for macro, but if you want to use two just experiment a bit and keep the fundamentals explained in this video in mind.
Hi Guys, I’m trying to set the flash to fill in as you explain at the 8mi Ute mark, but it won’t let me. I’m pressing on the dial but it is set in no flash mode. Any idea why I can’t alter it?
Do you have a link/handout of the settings?
What if i don't have a strobe yet? what settings i have to change? ISO?
Thanks for this helpful video. What's the best shutter speed for this setting?
Shutter speed is not super important for this type of shooting. Just make sure the flash is on and set the exposure comp down according to the settings. A shutter speed of even 1/30 is fine.
Love your videos. I currently use a torch to light and that obviously allows the camera to increase the shutter speed through its light sensor. I am interested in going to a strobe but wondering how shutter speed works when you don't have continuous light? Trying the TG6 and setting the flash in a darkish environment it is still giving me a very low shutter speed reading - especially if the subject is quite a dark colour. With my manual camera I can ignore the light level if using a flash and set it to 160-250 knowing I'm lighting with a flash. With low shutter speeds don't you risk motion blur? Is there any way to increase shutter speed (I am using your Fstop and light compensation settings). I guess I can pre-light with a torch - I don't think that was mentioned?
We go into detail on this in the Advanced Settings video of this series. The TG-6 allows you to set a minimum shutter speed when using the flash, so you can set it to whatever you want within a certain range.
@@backscatteruw Thanks, you guys are great.
I can’t see this plate and strobe on your website. I know the housing is PT059 but what are the plate and strobe under?
That looks like the Sea and Sea YS01 Solis strobe in the video.
Is it possible to set a minimum shutter speed when setting ISO to 100? Seems even at minus 2 exposure compensation at f/18, the fastest it’s letting me shoot is at 1/100s. Thank you
Minimum shutter speed is directly tied to the Auto ISO setting. You can set the Auto ISO to 100-400 range, but it will almost always favor a high setting and not 100.
Can you achieve connection from tg6 to strobe through wireless connection without using optical cable?
No, they will require an optical cable. There is no compact camera that can wirelessly sync with a strobe underwater - they all require an optical sync cable.
Are there any instructions on using the underwater housing?
Lots of buttons but no idea what they all do!
Each button on the housing corresponds to a button on the camera, so if you know one then you already know the other. Give us a call if you need any help figuring stuff out.
@@backscatteruw Yes I need help - but I do much better if I have someone who can actually SHOW me. Is there a dealer in SLC who carries the underwater housing who can SHOW me how it works?
Hi I am using a Olympus strobe and it has 3 options RCA, RCB and Manual, the strobe only triggers when I select manual and when i take the pic the picture turns black...I am using auto macro...
The camera needs to be set to RC flash if using RC A or RC B on the strobe. It will need to be set to manual flash if using manual mode. Email us at info@backscatter.com so we can provide more help if you need it. Thanks!
Sir please.. how can I save custom modes c1 and c2.. its lost every time after I enter
Make sure you are saving them in the Main Menu before rotating out of the mode.
How to connect strobe with optical cable to tg6 housing?
With this little clip (for the Olympus housing, anyway): www.backscatter.com/Olympus-PFCA-03-Optical-Fiber-Cable-Adapter

Thanks for your support
you say on this video to set the flash to 'fill' to run ttl on your strobe; but on another video, you recommended setting flash output to 1/64th to allow for rapid recycling of the camera. Will the 1/64th setting allow for using the TTL setting? In the past, I have not used TTL (canon G11/12) so am not familiar with its usage. I got this camera and oly housing for Xmas and will be using it for the first time in Anilao and Dauin in the Philippines in February/March; both macro heavens. Thanks.
1/64 is manual power, which we would use for the fastest shooting speed possible. By doing so, you sacrifice the "automatic" feature of TTL exposure. By setting the flash to Fill-In instead of 1/64, you gain the ability to use TTL but lose the otherwise faster shooting speed of a manual setting.
Use 1/64 when you want to control your own exposure and have a speed advantage.
Use TTL/Fill-In when you want to camera to decide it's own flash exposure.
Good
You say the setting will be in the comments to down load but I can’t find it
It's in the description, or you can find it for download here: www.backscatter.com/reviews/post/Olympus-TG-6-Best-Underwater-Camera-Settings
Hi please man, do you have acceptable solution for mask water problem when you have beard like you ? i don't want to shave mine
Haha. Not exactly a best setting tip, but I always make sure to clean up the beard higher where the mask seals, and directly under the nose. Those are the most common leak areas for me.
My strobe totally over powers the photos. Causing just a white washed out photos. Any idea what I am doing wrong?
It sounds like you have a high ISO. I would reset all the settings and follow along with the video. If you still having issues give us a call or email us at west@backscatter.com
F stop only goes to 8 - why?
never mind. 🙂
