Why would you not translate what was said before the “controversial” comment? Not translating that makes the viewer feel like they are missing out on the context of what was being said even if it wasn’t important. If possible I would avoid doing that if you can.
It makes me wonder if you left out the full conversation because you worry people will jump on you for an incorrect translation. I know tons of people get off on correcting other people online and it’s super obnoxious but screw them! From the notes in Japanese Wikipedia, Nagoshi was asked to comment on the performance of the player who was doing well, but Nagoshi seemed to be struggling to spew out anything nice (いい言葉が浮かばない). When the other 2 co-hosts pushed him again, Nagoshi finally said "looks like he/she is (like) eating Chi-Gyu" which was seen as an unwarranted insult to/stereotyping the player.

Not that the video had time for it, but it didn't explain why Nagoshi's reputation took such a big hit from just 1 public insult. The angry customer base was pointing out how before Nagoshi rose to his position and put on the fake tan and flashy outfits, he was just an average geeky-looking man too. This image of a geek-turned-bully festered for a whole month before he streamed his public apology, and that's when he solidified his reputation for good. Japan has cultural standards for public apologies, you dress formally, you look serious and remorseful, you bow with your whole body for a prolonged time, you profusely repeat that apology. Nagoshi's casual approach and smirking fell so short of that standard, it came across as remorseless taunting. During that stream, some angry commenters reportedly heckled Nagoshi by calling him "cheese beef bowl face".

And that's "fine"! Haha. They are "serious" "straight-laced" guys. I... can't think of anything nice to say. Look, they look like they would eat cheese beef bowl, ok?"
So, it's a bit hard to convey the condescending way he is using the word "serious" here, but basically he is trying to imply "virgin" or "incel". This connotation is a lot more common in Japanese than in English. Even still. obviously he was dissatisfied with how indirect he was being because he doubled down with the cheese beef bowl comment.
Not for nothing, contextually he was literally talking about players of the Sega game puyopuyo. It'd be like if the lead developer of Fortnite was on a stream and was asked "Hey, what do you think of Ninja?", and the response was "Ummm... Regardless, there's no denying his talent as a developer and the amazing things he's done for the Yakuza franchise and consequently Sega. Sega found new relevancy (especially overseas) through Yakuza. I also believe it was his idea to tap Christian Whitehead/Headcannon to make Sonic Mania. He brought Sega back to life, when their reputation was at it's lowest. And they just let him go over using what is essentially the Japanese equivalent of the neckbeard, fedora wearing, "m'lady" meme? I do find it amusing that despite Japan hating 2chan and the US hating 4chan all the relevant memes can be traced back to those areas of the internet.

The roughest part is the deflated look on the guy's face to the right, wearing the Puyo Puyo sash. Ouch.

As I saw the requirements for a chee-gyu enjoyer, I noticed my resemblance to such. I may possibility am a chee-gyu guy (despite the idea of cheese on my gyu don doesn't fancy me at all)

As a recent arrival in Japan, I am greatly saddened that consuming cheese gyudon would make me the local equivalent of a soyboy lol

I heard about this back when it happened, but I didn't understand the full meaning back then... thanks for the explanation! xD
    Some stuff to think about.
First, I highly doubt Nagoshi-san got out of Sega because of that incident... like a few other famous game figures, he probably just got a way better offer from the Chinese developer and decided it was finally time to go.
It's also, you know, Sega. The company hasn't been doing super great in a while now.
He's been languishing a while with the Yakuza franchise there, perhaps he just thought it was time to try something new.
He also didn't leave Sega for NetEase directly... he got out of Sega with a few other devs, established his own studio called Nagoshi Studio, which is now a subsidiary of NetEase.
So it's a bit more like Kojima.
Another thing to note.... even though he's the Yakuza director and creator and all that, funny enough, there are almost no controversies directly involving him. xD But the guy weathered some deep crap through his career and life. The life part you can look for articles or his Wikipedia entry, but on games themselves, it wasn't about him, but former colleagues said waaaaaay more controversial things in the past, and then he had to deal with the whole Judgement Pierre Taki fracas not that long ago. Remember that?
Second thing to think about - I think people get incensed about this more because of where it's coming from, and less because of the meme itself... because Nagoshi-san has this bad boy image, I guess it must feel more insulting for nerds and chi-gyuu to be called that by someone like him. But it's kinda funny that, at least as far as it seems, you kinda need to be a bit of a nerd yourself to understand and use the term. Isn't that the case? Or did chi-gyuu reach the mainstream lexicon in Japan already, kinda like otaku?
One way or another, we're talking about a game development director who dresses as his girlfriend tells him to (not me saying that, he said this in interviews). xD Deep down, he's a bit of a chi-gyuu himself, at least when compared to "regular people". :P
Final thing... well, it's just a new derogatory term for insecure nerds, right? Since otaku became mainstream and stopped being a term overtly used to demean or offend others, something new had to come by. xD People are comparing it to soyboy or other terms like that, but it's just not as loaded with politics. The extreme version for westerners is likely incel, but again, it also does not carry the ideological and political load. For me at least it feels more like calling someone a kinda insecure momma's boy nerd or something like that.
