Hate to be the block text on the Shakespeare authorship question, but a huge reason why people roll their eyes at the authorship question is because the people who raise it often raise it for classist reasons. Shakespeare was one of the first generations of people not of noble birth to receive a formal education and for that reason, many believe that it must have instead been written by various men of noble birth and the people who make this argument are often the most irritating snobs. Most of the evidence that Shakespeare didn’t write Shakespeare is fairly shaky if you know about historic context (which unfortunately many do not) or is conflated with how many of his plays were strongly inspired by earlier plays. I actually think the “just asking questions or why is it bad to ask this question?” Is actually a really bad precedent for a book on history, because you can ask enough questions to make anyone doubt anything and it absolves you from the responsibility of making an actual argument, while still leaving your reader with the impression that you’ve made one.
My favorite book of all time is Wuthering Heights so your description of Intermezzo made it sound like the perfect fit to me. Definitely picking it up!!
Wait, hold on, so you mean to tell me, that The Message, and Will of the Many ( which are both on my tbr ) got Liene's stamp of approval? Well Merry Christmas and Santa hats to you too!
Perdido Street Station has been on my TBR for a whiiiile, found myself devouring the Green Bone Saga and just started Best Served Cold so I don't know if I'll be getting around to it any time soon lol
Liene, asking the important questions!! Thank you for this review. A lot of interesting titles I've never heard. You're interest in Sally Rooney really has me intrigued. I want to see if there is a Sally Rooney book I don't like, just so I can tell you why. But I feel that if they hit as hard as you say, then I'll probably love them. I appreciate your input.
Haven't read yet the Book of Myst, but... MYST the videogame series is GREAT. They all readily available on digital stores like GOG. The first one had like 4 remakes including VR one, and the sequel to the first game titled "Riven" has been fully remade just recently. The rest of them can be played on modern systems as well.
It wasn't until this video that I realised sally rooney and Emily Henry are two separate people. I have always heard their book titles in mamy situations and I don't know why in my head they were written by the same person
Thanks for the breakdown! Just a quick off-topic question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
00:06:30 - adult here 🖐 I too know not what to do in Myst and I "played" it in my 20s in the late 1990s. Played it a few years ago and my experience was unchanged lol. I refuse to google or UA-cam it bc its a mystery of a mystery. Merry Christmas from Australia btw!
I love litfic but I'm not a fan of Sally Rooney because of her prose. It's so dry compared to most litfics I've read. It's why some people who did not like Normal People as a book loved it as a TV series.
Sorry, but are you really serious about "I don't really know if it's his first book and his wife saved it from the dustbin"? I thought this was like common knowledge for anybody having ever heard of Stephen King, but that's maybe because of my age, he was relatively new, then. And according to Wikipedia, it actually was not quite like that, but basically, yes: "It began as a short story intended for Cavalier; King tossed the first three pages in the trash but his wife, Tabitha, recovered them, saying she wanted to know what happened next. He followed her advice and expanded it into a novel. She told him: "You've got something here. I really think you do."" Still one of may favourite books ever. And I also like the movie.
I really appreciate how you don't just recite the blurb when you talk about how you feel about books, this method is way more convincing 🤝
I always appreciate how articulate you are and how you summarize your reading experience of the book but also the book itself.
I am really glad I picked up the shakespeare nonfiction because of your rec, although it did lead to my most fascinating comments day 😂

Now I have my reading list for the new year lol Happy holidays everyone!

Lady Liene forgot her Christmas hat 😆

I loved your review of Intermezzo. Now I'm curious. The thing about humanity stuck with me.

Had the same childhood experience of Myst. Just wandering around touching stuff.
Have you ever seen the video "I read everything Shakespeare ever wrote" from Liam Thompson? If not, I think you would like that.
Myst was an interesting game.
I would really like to know your opinion on Zombie Fallout - Mark Tufo. He's a great writter
You need to have a Christmas-view-a-thon of Carrie, Christine, and Pet Sematary... you'll thank me later....or curse me..
Mans a gamer? or just for Myst?
