- Here is some great camera footage that I shot of the Las Vegas strip and its hotels/casinos, from exactly 20 years ago - Jan. 8, 1993!!! I was visiting Vegas with my family for our usual January CES vacation, and I had just received my Canon A-1 Digital HI-8 camcorder....so where better to use it than shooting all the lights on the Strip? What makes this video so cool, besides the decent quality, is seeing all the hotels that are long gone - the Dunes, Stardust, Frontier, Hacienda, Desert Inn, Sands, and others! Also in this video, which runs 3 parts, is some VERY rare footage of the Treasure Island going up, as well as the Luxor and the MGM Grand!! This part begins with driving down the Strip toward the Stardust; the entryway to the Stardust; a quick glance at the temporary Keno Lounge inside the Stardust (they LOVED purple!!!!); shots of the front of the Stardust, Frontier, part of the original Fashion Show Mall, construction of Treasure Island, the Mirage, and Caesar's Palace (BEFORE the Forum Shops opened in 1994!).

I just found this video in my UA-cam recommended videos ,now I’ll have to watch parts 2&3 .Treasure Island being built. It was done by the time I moved to Vegas in Nov. 95
Thanks for posting! This video takes me back in time. I was in the show Enter the Night for several years. Best job ever!
Wow, how cool!!!!
It's Kinda Sad To See Atleast All Of these Casinos Gone And The Thing is, We Have only 4 original Casinos Left :(
Really great to see old Vegas clips. Thanks for sharing. I love the commentary regarding the Dunes closing. "Some guy bought it and is putting something up." That guy was Steve Wynn and that something was Bellagio.
Mike Tierney god I miss the dunes. That sign was magnificent
I thought that the Dunes closed in January of 1992. and stayed vacant for a year and nine months before the first of two building implosions.
Ty for posting..Love this older stuff. 1980 was my first time to vegas.. Been back 30 times. It is not the same now.
Thank you for taking us along: never tire of seeing these places--especially, The Stardust. (now 25 years since this video was shot). I'm older probably than most and keep asking, "What was wrong with the 'old?' " Although, always make room for grander and better like The Mirage and Caesar's Palace.
And 20 years from now they'll probably be torn down. Why do people want to tear down places where Hollywood and music royalty performed at or stay there? They tore down the hotel with the Frank Sinatra room where he stayed all the time that's an incredible piece of history that people would probably want to stay at. But they needed to build a parking lot for their big Convention Center which I don't even think they built
Thanks a lot for posting this I love history. And to see something like this is really wonderful
Wow, Treasure Island construction banners! Retro Vegas gold!
I was there for that CES. For the only time doing the show, we weren’t able to get a room on the Strip, and had to stay at the Fiesta way up in North Las Vegas. I remember that rain quite well…with LV's notoriously poor storm-drain system, it meant that many of the freeway underpasses (which were below-ground) flooded, making the commute from the hotel to the show a bit of an adventure.
93 was the year where the strip really started filling in then.. I was born march of that year
25 years makes a HUGE difference
Thank you so much for this video
Hi thanks for sharing this with us! Im a vegas native. Its so lame nowadays 😢
I enjoyed watching this. Thanks for sharing. I lived in Vegas most of my life. Vegas sucks anymore, I recently moved to Texas
Great footage. Thanks for posting.
This is the Las Vegas I want to go to. It kinda sucks now.
The small talk is classic! "Some guy bought the Dunes he's turning it into something..." "Who's the guy building TI?" "IDK!?"
Jetranger - says watch out , just another another 20 + years,, and this Place will be changed again !!!!!
I want more Hacienda!!
Not that it matters now, but I never understood why the Stardust replaced their classic logo/sign with the plain looking one you see here.
I don't either.
Rodney Dangerfield!!!

Where's the Dunes? It seems like it should be where the bellagio is.
Wow you where kinda quiet on this one!
They need to stop tearing down casinos and let them be landmarks but then again there’s be no Bellagio. I hope Trop Flamingo Sahara and Caesar’s stay around
is dunes implosion
