Okay, this was “my” time in Las Vegas. Throughout the 90s! The most exciting time, that building boom and all the themed hotels/casinos. Was thrilling. Wish I could find a time machine and go back again...
Hey Bill, back in 93 was my first real trip to Vegas as I turned 21. It was exciting, all the open space, new construction, and lights. What a wonderful time. Sad to see the old casinos gone and I wished I had filmed back then.
@@Trading2471 it's not right that they got rid of all of them.. I was born in 93 and I've never even been to vegas but it still makes me sick.. these kind of videos are one of the best things I've ever seen..
I was born in ‘94, and I went to Vegas for the first time in 2016 at 22. I wish I could have experienced this version of Vegas. It’s so spacious and breathable, lol.
Loved seeing the old Landmark hotel. 1973 was the first time I rode to the top of the Landmark and saw the view. At that time you could see the outline of the city by the lights as they met darkness. Each year I would visit and see the ring of lights get larger as the city grew. Just before the hotel was torn down, I did get a chance to see the lights of the city become endless........miss the hotel.
1:06 symbolizes the beginning of the end for this town!!!… The Dunes light is off forever… a shadowy reminder of what once DAZZLED us. Many (almost ALL) will follow throughout the years like dominoes
It's amazing seeing how much open space there was, even 25 years ago. Now it's completely jammed up with buildings. Just think, 30 years from now the Mirage and Flamingo will probably be gone and replaced.
I didn't visit until 1999, but I miss it so much. There is almost nothing left from that period in regards to attractions. Its interesting listening to the narrator talk about things that are now closed like the pirate show, Merlin's show, the MGM amusement park, auto collection, mgm lions, Luxor boat ride (earlier than 1999) etc.
Las Vegas isn't as brightly lit anymore sadly. They got rid of most of he neon lights ad now it's mostly large screens and a few neon signs. It looks better in the 90s
The Las Vegas Strip, as how I want to remember it. Excellent footage of "The Sands," "Stardust," and even 6:18 "Wet N' Wild." Love the inclusion of "Casino Radio" as well. Very transportive. Thanks so much for sharing.
PKPhoenix83 Agreed so much! I only finally visited Vegas in 2015(& months before the Riviera closed), and watching this and a few other vids definitely confirms that some of the charm the Vegas strip once had has been lost, in the 2 decades between then and now. With the Riviera finally closed down and Barbery Coast/Bill's Gambling Hall now turned into The Cromwell(never saw either of those 2 incarnations, before Cromwell), Flamingo and Circus Circus almost seem like the only strip casinos with a lot of exterior neon anymore. Thankfully, downtown Vegas on Fremont St. still has tons of classic neon, and that the Neon Museum did preserve many of the former strip and downtown exterior signs. They just need to work, to get more of their sign collection restored and into working shape again.
BoratWanksta I KNOW!!! I visited Vegas in 2015 before riviera closed too. I also just got back from Vegas last weekend. The only classic neon casinos left are Fremont street and flamingo and circus circus. That's what I like most about Vegas is the neon lighting.

Thank you so much for sharing this video. We lived in Vegas for 3 years and loved going to the strip to see shows and to eat at the buffets. My girls were babies at this time and one was born at Nellis. So many great memories watching several casinos being built and imploded as well. Can't wait to go back after 22 years!
Many of the casinos shown here are now long gone, replaced by high rises and empty lots. This film was made as the transition was just beginning, so you have the classic casinos like the Sands and the Stardust, and the new casinos like the Mirage (a high rise of course) starting to take over the Strip. Today the Strip has absolutely NO character whatsoever. One of the saddest losses was the Riviera. NO casino had more colorful neon than the Riv!!! Plus it was THE place for stars like Frank Sinatra. NONE of the casinos today will EVER have the history and tradition that the classic casinos had. You might as well do your gambling at the bus station or the airport. They have slots too, and a lot more character than the modern casinos!!!
I have been studying these old videos, and doing a historical research project. All but a handful of structures from these days of the1990s and earlier NO longer exist. Major changes. The two Old Dennys from the 60s were actually torn down and rebuilt inside the bigger newer monster casinos.
Do anybody remember in the 90s when you can make a reservation just by your name and telephone number a 7-Day courtesy hold at some of the major hotels on the strip no credit card needed
Was able to see the Dunes many times in1990 as they were talking of selling it,renovating or demolishing it..Loved the Dunes Mega Sign & the Oasis *Casino neon sign with lit green neonpalm trees by the Dunes main front doors ( at the corner of the strip & Flamingo Rd)... Classic resort hotel with the storied history of Classic Vegas.!! RIP.

I’ve been a fan of the Sands Casino and the Landmark and Circus Circus casino and honestly I never been to Las Vegas before but I do wish to go to the casinos
This was when The Mirage was the face of Las Vegas. It was the gold standard for the strip at the time. Now, 34 years later, even that’s now obsolete, closing in July. I swear, Vegas a few decades ago was completely different.
I miss the old O'Shea's too but it never had a hotel... and it's alive and well. They built a new O'Shea's Casino within the Linq. It opened in like 2014 or 2015 if my memory is correct...
Watching this in 2023. Ironic how it begins with an audio clip about the Mirage and all the things to see there and ends with a shot of the Hard Rock Cafe guitar.
Wow!! According to the radio DJ, the MGM, Luxor and Treasure Island all had not opened yet. Boy has Vegas evolved. At that time, the strip really wasn't the pedestrian friendly street it is now. Not many people walking. Lot's of vast open desert between properties still. Crazy!!!
