    I've got the Ping G30 Irons from 4-P and can say that I absolutely love them. Improved my overall golf game massively and I couldn't recommend them enough. Never tested the TaylorMade irons so can't give an opinion on them but would say definitely look at the Pings if your in the market for some new irons.

    I just tested and purchased a set of Aeroburners. I was hitting the 7 iron 200 yds consistently. I was very pleased with the results.

    Kenny Perry is testing the G30 irons for the 2016 season, told me the other day he really likes the height along with the distance. Holds the greens better.

    Idea for a video: Mark takes a set of clubs off the rack, hits each club a few times and shows us his average distances with each club.
    Why? Because manufacturers make sets with different loft gaps between successive clubs rather than a constant difference of, say, 4 degrees throughout the set. Be interesting to see how this affects distance gaps between successive irons. Do we get, say, an 8 yard difference between 5 & 6 irons, but a 15 yard gap between 8 & 9 for example?

    Picked up some new game improvement Aero's for 285 pounds....much better than my previous Cobra S2 Max...feels lighter...went higher and longer which is nice for a slow swing speed....Mark's vids helped me find something for me within a budget....ty

    Great comparison with honest feedback. Unfortunately a lot of consumers will buy clubs based purely off the distance numbers, and not take into account the crucial less spin = harder to hold greens factor.

    Hi Mark.
    Just received confirmation and details that I have been lucky enough to attend your 150,000th subscriber giveaway golfing spectacular at Whittlebury Hall. I will be attending and would like to say a very big thank you to you and Coach Lockey (my favourite - he has such a winning smile) for offering this amazing opportunity. For all the people feeling green with envy out there, you have every right to be and we will be thinking of you on the day. Thanks once again, Mark and look forward to meeting up with you next week. Will there be a special guest appearance by Buzza??

    The thing is, if you're 190 from the green, you will be taking a 6 iron with the Aeroburner and probably a 4 iron with the G30. Both of these are going to be hard to stop.
    The bigger issue for me is that if your 6 iron goes 190 than how many wedges are you going to need to make up the gaps at the short end of your bag?
    I imagine the Aeroburner PW is probably more like a "normal" 8-9 iron leaving you an enormous gap to your sand wedge. You would need about 3 gap wedges to fill it.

    • @jalanhart
      @jalanhart 9 років тому +1

      The Aeroburner 4-iron is 19 degrees...that's essentially a 1-iron, or a strong 3-hybrid or a weak 5-wood.

    • @SebMercier
      @SebMercier 9 років тому +2

      27G27G27 Don't worry you'll need only the usual wedge set. TaylorMade will invent a 10i and an 11i to bridge the gap between your 38° 9i and your current 46° PW...
      For once, I'll say it: this is really just dishonnest marketing, it's really a 5i with a 6 stamped on it... It has nothing in common with a 6i: launch, spin, height... It's not an über-long 6i, it's just a 5i...

    Why is the discrepency in dynamic loft even bigger than the discrepency in static loft?

    • @killacamfoo
      @killacamfoo 9 років тому

      Differences in static loft will result in even more pronounced differences in dynamic loft. Think of an 8 degree driver against a 10 degree driver. Big changes in dynamic, not so big in static. Same applies here.

    I haven't looked into Taylormade irons in a while because I know they have only really been creating the false impression of "more distance" by decreasing lofts of their respective number. So I looked up the lofts of the Aeroburners and they are so wide between clubs at the higher-lofted area it seems ridiculous and almost impractical for distance gapping. The 9 is 38, PW is 43 and the AW is 49... Also, on the ling iron end, The 4-iron at 19 degrees is likely too close to even a 5-wood. Unless they're designing with the assumption that most amateurs hit long irons less effectively than they should be?

    I play aeroburners and never had an issue with spin. Hit my 6 iron 185 and usually end up just a few feet from my ball mark. My irons are always towering shots too though, almost seems to be coming straight down by the time it reaches the ground, so that probably has something to do with stopping power for me at least.

    Iv been testing loads of irons recently for a new set. I can say Iv never ever ever hit a taylormade Iv liked. Recently tried the RSI2 against the Nike Vapor Pro combo titleist AP2 and ping G30 would have tried the Ping I but they ain't out yet. I found the taylormade was by far the longest iron, they aim to be the longest iron but that's not what I was looking for I want to control my shots as mark said the Taylormades won't stop so what's the point it's just to make people feel good by hitting a club 2 shorter that anyone else. Il take score over distance any day so I opted for the Nikes that are amazing

    All that being said , I guess the TM aeroburner 4 iron does away with the need for rescue clubs and 3 woods . This lofting should be standardized by the PGA ie all 7 irons should be 35' .. Then the manufacturer can compete on a level playing field .. Will see then who's got the best clubs .

    If a 6 iron is LOFTED like a 4 iron what is the aeroburners 3 iron like? Do they do a 2 and 1 iron? Is their zero loft on these clubs? I would like to see comparisons between the 3 irons and 9 irons. I would imagine the 3 iron aeroburner would be very hard to hit if it has the loft of a putter.

    Just like Terry Koehler from Ben Hogan says, a lot of companies are trying to make the biggest hitting 6 iron for marketing purposes and it's compressing the gaps in the long and short irons. The golfer uses the iron numbers for distance gauging naively expecting a consistent gap between them. The manufacturers then come along and start messing about with the lofts on them solely so it looks good on a launch monitor!!
    If i can't get there with a 6 iron i'm quite capable of walking to the bag and pulling out a 4 iron. This new hardware is not making us hit better golf shots, all it seems to have done is create a psyche where we try and hit each club too hard for the sake of being long. The buzzman was playing a 150 yard hole with another couple of pros the other day. One hit a flat out wedge (the man) and to be fair he got there but was quite far away from the pin considering it was a wedge, then this little cutie rocks up with a mid iron and sticks it closer.
    There's 14 clubs in my bag, 18 holes on the course and about 72 shots to make, i can't use my 6 iron for all of them! Can someone make a consistently gapped set of irons that interacts well with soft, hard, fluffy and tight lies and not made out of cheese please...?
    Accuracy is king in this game and all the hardware companies do is seem to make it more difficult for us to be accurate.

  • @DaveyHeat1

    Not sure if I'm buying into the whole distance thing. I think I would rather just know what my distances are so I can play the shots required, if my 6 iron goes 165 then so be it, no ego here! Besides, I'm really strong anyway #Withabix !!! I think the interesting thing with the Aero Burner is the spin numbers - like you say, is the ball going to stop at the other end. I mean wow I hit a 6 iron 190 yards but oops I'm over the back again, or can I trust this to stop when there is a tough green and I need stop on the ball quickly. I'm actually a big TaylorMade fan, but not sure with this one. I had someone try to sell me the Callaway XR based on me hitting the 7 iron like 180 yards whereas I was hitting my existing 7 iron 150, but it was just false economy.

    problem with manufactures making their irons so strong means there is a massive gap at bottom of bag between pw which is probably in around 40* loft and your sand wedge- thats where high handicap players lose their shots (100 yards in)- why make it harder for them to score in that area by basically taking away clubs

    It would be nice to a 5 and 6 Aeroburner iron in the bag, so when your mate is getting out his rescue club from 200 yards you could just pull out you're iron and pretend it's just great power from you. But from 6 from there to PW these clubs would just be too long.

    Hey mark i think your comment about'i want the 6 iron to stop at the other end' is non sense because if you would compare the g30 iron that goes at the same distance as the aeroburner 6 iron it would be prolly the same peak numb spin number etc. If you compare the aeroburn to gmax i think it would be very close in term of numbers loft are pretty much the same...

    • @thebaseballjones
      @thebaseballjones 9 років тому +2

      jaydee514 Yes and no. Yes Mark's comment is not exactly fair because you would have to compare the g30 club that goes 190 for him vs the Aeroburner 6i. However, the whole point of the aeroburner's marketing is to say our 6i goes further. Yes the TM 6i does go further, but it should have a 5 or a 4 marked on the sole. So if TM wants its clubs compared to other clubs based on the number marked on it for distance, they cannot turn around and say hey thats not a fair comparison for other factors like height, spin and playability.
      I play with 30 year old Ping Eye 2's where 25* loft is my 4i (granted it is an inch plus longer than the aeroburner 6i). The number on the club means nothing. Know your distances and play with clubs that you hit the best.

    • @Dtyler171
      @Dtyler171 9 років тому

      Seamus Griffin
      Actually, the main purpose in the lower loft is to launch it lower (which should be obvious)! They do this because the modern, chunky (game improvement) irons launch the ball a lot higher (on average).
      It has been proven that a full degree in loft only adds about 1-2 yards carry. The reason that there are gaps in the clubs are, more importantly, because of spin rates and length of the clubs (longer club = high swing speed). Some brands do take it that extra step further though, and lengthen the irons, as well as put lighter shafts for maximum swing speed.
      I remember I was demoing the Taylormade Speedblades and hitting the 7 iron further than I hit most 5 irons...that in mind, I was also launching it up like a wedge because of the light shafts and chunky bottoms. Lol

    • @seamusandpat
      @seamusandpat 9 років тому

      Dtyler171 I totally get that, the higher trajectory of the low c.o.g. modern clubs will naturally not carry the distance loft for loft. Therefore lowering the loft will allow the high trajectory clubs carry the distance. Thanks for your information.

    You should try a little harder putting yourself into a higher handicap players shoes. The aeroburner is simply made for 1 reason and thats distance/forgiveness. Obviously not something you would even think about playing but for a lot of weekend players its what they want at a much better price point then the g30 irons. Not a very unbiased comparison and they do stop rather well depending on the ball being used of course.

    • @MarkCrossfield
      @MarkCrossfield  9 років тому +1

      Sorry you are confused about balls stopping. Spin with all of say titlesit range of balls is only really seen from 9 iron up. I teach many high hacappers who simply can not launch these clubs because of the lofts. Therefor I 100% do not agree with your comment. #veryhonestreviews :)
