- Watch Byomkesh Bakshi's episode-25 'Balak Jasoos'. Byomkesh Bakshi is a fictional detective in Bengali literature created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. He is one of the most successful and popular characters in Bengali literature.
Doordarshan now brings to you the entire series of this literary classic which was televised back in 1993 directed by the brilliant Basu Chatterjee. Actor Rajit Kapur played the role of Byomkesh Bakshi, for which he was highly praised. Ajit was played by K.K. Raina and Satyaboti was played by Sukanya Kulkarni who was the first actress to play the character. - Розваги

It's the brilliance of art director /costume designer and the director Mr Basu who would have opted for that attire to keep it relevant and as close to the original as possible.
Don't forget the budget constraints too . This was after all in the 90's and a DD production.

A spy is a man of action and almost similar to a foot soldier who is undercover , little more resourceful and usually operates in the enemy's territory whereas a detective is good at solving complex cases using his acumen, sharp deduction skills drawn from the immediate environment , cerebral brilliance to join the dots of events and reach a conclusion based on facts and reserved to the periphery of the case at hand .
One could compare the character of BYOMKESH to Sherlock or Hercule Poirot.
Sherlock Holmes was the combination of both as per the stories . He had trained himself to be both mentally and physically strong .

In the original story he is not a kid but a spoilt boy of around 17-18 years old who smokes cigarettes by stealing them from his mausa . The story was written in the 1960s . Even then it is written in the story that Byomkesh was amazed and rebuked him when he first asked a cigarette from Byomkesh. Byomkesh hesitated to give him cigarette but eventually gave him one when he insisted . We should take these into account . I don't know why they showed him as a kid here .
Also while I don't endorse showing kids smoking on TV , Kids nowadays are shown to do many things or they are made to say many such things on TV which they should not . People who are completely okay with that and even find that cute are losing their minds over seeing a Kid smoke .Strange Self-righteous people !

Yes... this series has hardly deviated from original stories. Despite that, they had this. I was taken aback to see this unnecessary change. Especially when Nengti often asks for cigarettes, this alteration was unwanted and unacceptable. They have shown the right age in Parambrata's Byomkesh film as well as in Anirban's Byomkesh webseries.

The name of the original story was MognoMoinak (in Hindi, MaganMainak). Mogno = plunged, Moinak = the mountain Mainak. MognoMoinak = the plunged Mainak.
According to Ramayan, mountains had wings those days. They used to fly to places and sit on localities every now and then, causing extinction of those localities. So devraj Indra got angry with them and burnt their wings through lightening. Only the mountain Mainak (son of the mountain Himalaya) managed to escape through dipping into sea.
The name MognoMoinak has been used as an analogy to resemble a fugitive convict. 21:24

The time frame in which this show is set in, smoking wasn’t considered that bad as its cancer causing effects were unknown. Infact cigarette was considered as a refreshment and was thought to cause little to no harm.

Many great serial actors of STAR PLUS, ZEE TV, LIFE OK, SONY TV and many many more channels all played a part in Byomkesh Bakshi serial and are famous today but the lead actor playing Byomkesh Bakshi is just a side actor nowadays......A forgotten hero.
Rajit Kapoor is a leading stage artist today and he still does select movies. He is doing well for himself. He is definitely not a 'side actor'.
Byomkesh Bakshi is not a side actor. In Bengali film industry, there are several movies based on the story of Byomkesh Bakshi. And in 2024, Sept-Oct, another film of "Durga-Rahosyo" is coming it is the authentic Bengali story. It is the same story as "Kiley ka Rahasya" , ep12 of this show.

This is the only episode which mentions Pakistan, East Pakistan to be specific. Also mentions the real life Dangay in Dhaka.
The crash of the plane is a bit of stretch though. The episode says the year is 1963. The only Plane crash of PIA in those times was a 1957 Chittagong- Dhaka flight which crashed near Chittagong and 24 people were killed.
For your kind information when this story was written it was east and west pakistan. But we freed east Pakistan from vulture and made them free nation Bangladesh. Remember 1939 'Deleverence Day' and 1946 'Direct Action Day' by peaceful fuckers.

Dude this was made in 90s on a low budget scale (Not a huge one like hoichoi the Bengali streaming platform who is being producing byomkesh now ). Obviously there would be some error on periodical part .This kid is a little weird but yeah this is still better portrayal of nengti than the hoichoi one .Also this episode in way better than the 2019 abomination.
