    Pahalgam is also known as the Valley of shepherds. It is a one of the most popular tourist destinations of Kashmir and a town in the Anantnag district of Kashmir. It is located 90 kilometres from Srinagar on the banks of Lidder River at an altitude of 7,200 feet above mean sea level.
    Pahalgam is associated with the annual pilgrimage to the shrine Amarnath Yatra. The town is the starting point of the Yatra that takes place every year in the months of July-August, receiving hundreds of thousands of devotes. Because of its religious significance and role as a base camp, the town attracts 70% of visitors to the valley.
    Pahalgam acts as a gateway to many alpine lakes, meadows, pastures, valleys and peaks like Tarsar lake, Tulian lake, Dodsar lake, Baisran, Betab valley, Aru valley, Kolhoi glacier, and highest peak of Kashmir the Kolhoi peak etc. Pahalgam holds a central position in the Lidder Valley. Lidder river is most striking attraction of Pahalgam around which the town of Pahalgam is situated. It has long and cold winter and short and mild summer,
    Baisaran Valley, barely 5 kilometres from Pahalgam is a popular tourist attraction that has been dubbed "mini-Switzerland" due to its scenic splendour. It's a meadow on a mountaintop surrounded by snowcapped mountains and studded with thick Pine and Devdar forest.
    Pahalgam has ample night stay accommodations of all types and is actually a 2-3-day trip from Srinagar.
