Jeff speaks!
UA-cam thought I needed to see this video… Dang it, this algorithm knows me too well.
I am really enjoying these videos. Thanks for bringing us along.
I’m not a “flakey” guy, n oh boy all my respects to you guys. Great quality work.
Outstanding video and the continued education from Jason and Jeff are highly appreciated. Great job ! Great Channel
Great channel, love the proffesional education!
It's great to see how your work improves the the buildings you do.
Wow, what a transformation. Sirs, it is a pleasure to watch you. Dedication, expertise, culture (not only technical :). Just few videos and I will be ready to do my basement. Unfortunately in Poland I cannot order your kits.
Thanks for watching on the other side
Floor looks great great job.
Absolutely love the videos fellas.... keep up the good work!
Thank you for watching, we appreciate everybody's support
Excellent work gentlemen.
Adding a little sand/grit to the unwanted surface to help abrasion is so simple but so smart, I wish I knew this before.
Great channel, love the details of info that you are providing to viewers.
Thank you for watching.
Impressive work. Thanks for posting. Wish I hired you for my flooring.
nice install guys
Beautiful floor also by the way
Good job!
these guys are the best concrete epoxy installers ever! 👑
That's going to go right to our heads, but thank you so much for the compliment!!
You guys make me wish I had an old warehouse.
These guys make me wish I didn't have carpet glued the floor of my two car garage!
Appreciate your help. I may have the nerved to do my garage later this summer.
Im here to help when your ready.
good work
I personally flake to rejection. It looks so much nicer. And I toss flake like I’m feeding chickens. Anyhow you guys do nice work and have a new sub.
wow also you're subscribers has tripled! way to go
thanks for your support
Very nice 👍
beutiful job.
Ok I need that trolley you’re using for the hand grinding in my life like RIGHT NOW!
Racatac. Its definitely a life saver
We actually distribute them, but they are backordered for a couple months
Haha that's how I throw flake too. I call it feeding the chickens 😂😂
They do make PCD blades for that grinder and the 7 inch that tear glue right up real Nass like! Good luck to you guys
Also when you trowel in, use isopropylhol (I think that's how it's spelled) alcohol to clean the pull trowel off before you finish strike it.
Looks great. 👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Add a little flour it helps with the gumming. We do a lot of old schools and the demo guys never get the glue off
Have you done a video on these 2 subjects...
1. How to tell if concrete is soft or hard
2. How to tell how much moisture is in the concrete.
Have you guys ever considered or tried sealing the floor with a vacuum after you vacuum everything with the wand, takes a lot more dust particles out the pores and makes for a better bond to the concrete! Highly suggest it.
We have never had a failure to date doing it this way. I’m not sure what you mean about “sealing the floor with a vacuum” though. By using the primer, that penetrates through everything.
Did my garage…threw the flakes in the trash, but your application of flake looks good if you like that look. Personally I don’t.
On your videos you used a Trowel and Ketchup bottles to repair cracks, just curious what did you use to clean up those tools with? Thanks, great videos, your awesome to the detail of explaining "why" without assumptions of your audience's knowledge and doing a quality service .
Thank you for watching, acetone is the solvent we use to clean tools.
Excellent videos, very thorough & addictive! Just curious if you would recommend your crack repair materials for foundation crack repair?
This is an extremely rapid set material, I couldn’t see how you could actually get it in the wall crack before it sets up. From the time you mix it until it sets is about 1 minute 10 seconds.
The only thing that may work is if you could seal all the inside and outside face of the crack and pour it down from the top with a ketchup bottle
This is so awesome the color before the flakes was exactly what my husband paid for but the person working in the house just didn't want to finish. He left with our money and didn't finish. Where are you guys located? We live in Grand Prairie tx.
Eastern Pa. Sorry they stiffed you..
How come you wouldn't want to use a PCD then follow up with a 25 grit? Love the videos, you guys do great work!
We have them, I prefer to use them on harder glue, soft glue just gums up on us with the PCD. On soft concrete, the 25 grit particles are so large it will load up our vacuum hose also. This was a small area, so we just dealt with what we had. If it was a large area and very slow grind, we will try other options as needed.
I m a big fan of your videos, I m doing the same job in Canada I like the way you work. thank you so much.
I have one question. what do you think about the sase 800 machine compared to the HTC machine you guys using ?
I LOVE the HTC 800, I will also say I have not run into anyone unhappy with Sase grinders. I have never owned one so I can’t say firsthand the difference. I will say, years ago we had a job that was so large I had to hire another contractor to help us grind. Our HTC grinder did double the volume in the same amount of time. That could have just been a fluke. The one thing I do love about the HTC is the floating shroud around the grinding head. It illuminates adjusting the dust skirt.
CHEST SUPPORT CART....who makes that???, i can sure use one.
Hey mate, just wondering what the regulations are with food prep areas over in the states? I’m a vinyl layer in Aus and our regulation is that food prep areas need to be coved minimum 100mm up the wall, do you have to do coved epoxy in such areas? Love your vids by the way good to see people taking pride in their prep work!
It changes depending on the usage. In a high washdown area, it would be common to run up the wall 4"- 6".
Do the flakes provide any additional friction/useful function, or are they just a taste thing/decorative. as I preferred just the gray, without the flakes.
Thanks for making interesting content.
Thank you for watching, they are mostly decorative but they do help add some texture.
Is your foot wear comfortable and where you get them if so?
Would it make sense to get yourself a hardness test kit? Basically a set of scratch rods of known hardness, you would attempt to score the surface until one of them achieves a scratch. That way you can choose to use high speed tool steel, tungsten carbide, or diamond.
you can get a hardness drop test kit! only used them a few times a metre long pole drop a weight and judge the penatration is how i think it works. gl
It’s likely he has a mohs hardness test. They make the diamonds he’s using in 6 different matrixes that correspond to a mohs 4 (very soft) to a mohs 9 (very hard). The black tooling is a 5, the gold tooling is an 8. It’s a little overkill to use on each project though…with a little experience you can guess close enough to be effective.
Walker, You are very correct. We do have a mohs test kit, I have found it to be more of a pain than its worth. Also, when you have coatings / glues, what do you scratch? You need to grind off the coating to reveal the concrete to test.
We can typically tell before we start what to try first. Jeff called it early in the video by switching from gold to black before we ever started. That is also why we have every diamond with us so we can grind whatever we run into. Thanks for watching
What brand of hand grinder is that you use? I like how that works moreso than the Metabos.
Hilti DG-150, favorite grinder ever, well balanced, two speed, adjustable shroud.
I have a question, I live in PA also with snow and salt. How do I fix the pitted floor before application of the product. Also the garage has a drain and I think the product will run toward the drain. Thank you
use a shotblaster if you have alot of pitted concrete, that will clean the valleys out before you coat. the material is self leveling, but you are only applying a thin coat, so it wont just run down a drain unless you push a puddle to the drain.
Newtrapolele as say it there.
What glue?
How much do you charge per sqft
What was used to give texture?
I have my first Garage floor to do On Tuesday. Wondering if you use same squeegee on top coat as flake coat and how do you clean squeegee and roller? Xylene in a bucket to soak?
Aluminum oxide for texture, same squeegee for every coat, rollers are once and done. Clean squeegee with acetone or xylene. concretefloorsolutions.com/product/midwest-rake-s550-professional-squeegee/
😂👍
Can you add the oxide anti skid to metallic epoxy floors
You can, but you need to add it to a second clearcoat. If you add it to the metallic, it will settle to the bottom because it is so thick.
Is the rapid set epoxy rated for outdoor use? If so, I might buy some in the future. Thanks in advance.
It is not UV stable, it is designed to be used for repairs and then either coated over or grinded smooth interior. You could use it exterior, but it will probably change colors on you.
When you polish concrete, it stays shiny in a garage for how long?
There are a lot of factors involved, keeping any abrasives off the floor is extremely important. I have returned to projects we did 10 years ago and it looks like the day we did it.
Hi, what do you call that chair you guys use with hand grinder? I'm trying to buy something like that but I cant figure out what those are called. And my suppliers in Finland didn't get what I was trying to buy or they didn't have anything like that for sale. I'm working for something close to general contractor in states. Our demolition sub guys said they are going to be on all four for whole 2000 feet of wall and floor grinding.
Antti- the chair is called a Racatac. www.contractorsdirect.com/RAC-A-TAC-Chest-Support-3in-Casters
How would this hold up in a highly trafficked area such as a living room and kitchen? I’ve seen some say that this would start chipping after a few months.
if you prepare the surface properly, epoxy should never peel.. The only thing that can happen is scratching depending on what you do on it.
How big are usually flakes? Like finger nails or smaller?
1/4” is the most common, thats what we used, they do make 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1” also
is that grinder self propelled?
No it is not.
Whats the main difference for using a shot blaster vs a grinder?
A shot blaster shoots tiny steel pellets on the floor and gives the concrete a sandblasted rough texture.
The diamond grinder scratches the surface using a rotary diamond tool. The advantage of the grinder is that it's smooth the floor out to remove some of the irregularities.
@@ConcreteFloorSolutions thank you!
Hi guys, I have a concrete floor but there are some bigger acid stains I would like te remove. Some say it’s only possible by completely “sanding” the floor because the acid changed the structure of the concrete… do you have a better, more cost/time friendly, solution?
Unfortunately, No, probably even a more aggressive approach. Acid attacks the cement which is the matrix that holds concrete ( sand, stone, cement) together. If the cement is compromised, so is everything else around it. You need to aggressively grind or shotblast those areas to completely remove the weakened cement and possible dried acid. You also need to make sure the acid is or was neutralized first. If acid remains in the concrete and you coat over it, moisture can build under the coating, because it is not breathable, reactivate the acid and it will continue to erode the concrete under the coating and cause the coating to fail. That is why I preach to never acid etch for preparation, it can cause more harm than good.
I plan on doing this in my garage but I need to grind my concrete (30 years old slab) no crack tho,is it doable grinding it with available tool at rental company thx
yes, Sunbelt has a good selection of grinders.
@@ConcreteFloorSolutions I didn’t see anything dustless like you guys have! Beautiful setup.
Question - How is the grinding dust disposed? After big jobs I imagine you could have hundreds of pounds of the stuff to get rid of. Just wondering where it goes. Thanks.
It is ground concrete dust and in this case glue, it is placed in a dumpster and disposed of. Not considered hazardous material. We do not remove any hazardous coatings ( asbestos ) a remediation team deals with that.
@@ConcreteFloorSolutions Thanks very much for the quick response. Have a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
@@ConcreteFloorSolutions How do you get to know if there are dangerous substances in the floor ?
Thanks
@@esdrehtsich9289 you have to assume there's always something dangerous and wear a respirator, when grinding.
You can take samples and send them to a lab for testing
If there are dangerous contaminants, you need to have an abatement company come in to remove the materials
@@ConcreteFloorSolutions thanks a lot for your quick response. Have you done such tests before or is it too expensive for normal sized jobs ? In generell the main problem would be asbestos I think…
Why not use sand and a little water on the glue?
We will use sand to help stop the gumming when grinding if needed. Water will only reconstitute the water-based glue and make it smear all over the floor.
At least that's what we have experienced with water-based glues.
Polyurea cannot glue your slab back together. And why do you call it epoxy?
I have been gluing cracks back together with our epoxy crack filler epoxy for +/- 28 years without fail. I don't know what you are referring to.
What happens if the owner changes their mind and decided they *did* want aluminum oxide? Could they put down another layer of clear coat and sprinkle some on?
You could do another clearcoat and add aluminum oxide if needed.
@@ConcreteFloorSolutions would you have to abrade/ score/ scratch the top clear coat to add the after thought aluminum oxide and 2nd top coat? Thanks
@@upsideways You can always add an additional clear coat, you must lately sand the surface to create a mechanical bond first. Yes you can add aluminum oxide in the coating then also.
@@ConcreteFloorSolutions thanks!! If I did a full flake but noticed some lighter areas could I also add some flake to “fill in” in the same manner? Lightly sand and clear ,flake the spot . ?
Also what would I sand with? Sanding screen? Like 120? 20in
😅👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼👏👏👏👏
You guys work way too freaking hard. I can sympathize. The older you get the harder it gets. I work for if you want it done right do it yourself construction.
U so flakey
