@@GameGengo thank you so much! You’ve been one of the greatest helps when it comes to grammar points that I’ve observed but haven’t quite understood to the fullest. Thank you for your continued help!
I am so glad I discovered this channel. I am taking the first Japanese course, and I have lost some hearing while in the military. I have trouble hearing the tonal shifts in words these videos exaggerate the shifts and I'm starting to learn more. Your awesome!
I'm so glad someone finally explained this in a lucid way. I'm embarassed to admit I didn't even know this was a particle. It's one of those things where it's so ubiquitous that tone and context always make it clear what the person means, but then you realize... I actually have no idea what that word means or even what part of speech it is.
Really how so? This is just following the Japanese explanations and definitions. If you think there's a better/more simple way, feel free to let me know!
@@GameGengo I just think that the 2 most common usages only shoud have been covered and maybe gone in depth on just that. instead of 20min of like 10 usages. after your video i saw this one. ua-cam.com/video/Uu5iPG4HXqI/v-deo.html This was so much easier to follow imo.
Hmm the thing is though, さ is used a lot more than just what that video covered, and this being a N1 video I felt it would be better for everyone to get a bit deeper explanation, sure this will mean the video overall is more complicated because さ IS a more complicated piece of language, it doesn't just mean or be used to express one thing. It's tricky! Go too shallow and people don't really get the full picture, go too deep and people get overwhelmed. I'll take your comments into consideration and see how I can further improve the videos though, thanks!

I really appreciate this video. I can't stress enough how abysmal every explanation of さ I have found is, just every source regurgitating "it emphasizes" over and over lol. Great as always!
Haha i totally understand, Japanese often has 'it emphasizes' as the kinda cheat answer to almost everything haha I try my best to really find out the more clear contexts/uses each piece of grammar has, and also find a similar function in english as best I can to help the language stick, like this time with 'hey/y'know' surprisingly fits alot of the time! (not always though ofcourse haha) many hours put in to making sure i can avoid the simple 'it emphasizes' answer haha
From halfway through N3, is it possible to pass the JLPT N2 test by December? I'm really good at memorization and keeping up with Kanji. Also in a language school, so I might even go for N1 but I only have 1 shot at this. This channel has helped me astronomically, I feel I owe it to you to donate/join the patreon as soon as I'm able to. Being a broke student, I'm placing my entire life on passing N1 for the next 4 months.
Hi, I would like to suggest a topic for a video. I think it would be really helpful if you raised the subject of the expressions such as そんな、なんか、なんて、まさか, etc. Their usage is not very clear to me as their literal meaning is quite similar so I would be grateful!
This is somewhat, but not entirely related to this: FFXVI is coming to PC soon, like, in 10 days soon and I have been endlessly deliberating whether to play it in Japanese or not for my 1st playthrough, like I am doing for SMT 5 Vengeance (a game I did admitedly play in English first back in 2019). I feel like if I play it in English I am just wasting time when I can be challenging myself and improving my japanese even if it hurts my "first experience" with the game. With that preamble out of the way, I wish to ask: How difficult is 16 in terms of Japanese? I am not sure what my level really is, I haven't taken any test, N5, N4, N3, etc. but if I had to guess I think my vocabulary is around N4 but my grammar knowledge is N5+. I still struggle to understand a lot of sentences but I can put together the jist of what a character is asking me to do or the general point of the conversation without absorbing any of the detail and nuance. Sorry if this is a bit long, I appreciate any input you may have Sensei!
I love your videos, but could you possibly add a grammar comparison on usage? For example, is さ casual only? Can it be used in business meetings with people in the company or people from another company? I can assume this is isn't going to be said in front of the emperor though lol I haven't commented so I also want to take the chance to say thank you so much! Your videos are so good and accelerated my learning so much!
I love this video!! 「み」は, I've always thought of it as being connected some of/all of to the 何々しい's paired 何々しむ verbs, and just being the nominalizing ぃ stem. This, I think covers how you can't just slap み onto any adjective. As a linguist, learning about く and しく verbs in historical Japanese really cracked open an interesting little chest of goodies.
This is seriously so useful! I'm reading the Hanako-kun manga and MY GOD it feels like this boy uses さ all the freaking time! XD Using it a million times in the same sentence sounds like it could be annoying, depending on the person or the situation. I kinda love it.

@@anuzis YT deleted my comment for some reason but I just want to say: that is crazy to me. I dont understand how people get together locally let alone internationally. Great to see (N1/N2) / Advanced Content on the Channel, お疲れ様です。🙇
This honestly needs to be taught in things like Genki 1. If you come to Japan you hear it ALL the time but its absent from basic grammar books.
That's great, we need more N1 and N2 grammar! ありがとうございました!
