Do dishes and tidy up at night. In morning while coffee pot is going. I can put up clean dishes, make the bed, get clothes ready. It's lovely to wake up to a clean kitchen.

Re: the strawberries, rinse them in a bowl of very, very warm tap water (the hottest that will come out of your tap). Just swish them gently; then put them on a clean dish towel to dry thoroughly. Then put them in something glass (jar, etc.) with a tight fitting lid. I’ve had them last a month! The hot water rinses off mold spores. I also recommend emptying out the glass container after several days & drying it thoroughly. Pat off any water that has accumulated on the berries. This trick also works with any kind of berries/veggies, pretty much!

    This is so true!
If people would clean up their dirty dishes and tidy their kitchens up after dinner or meals and didn't have to wake up in to a dirty kitchen or go into a mess to cook dinner they would enjoy that feeling so much.
It really makes your whole house feel cleaner.
The next comparable thing is the bathroom.
Keep dry dirty laundry in hampers and keep your sink and clean, counters wiped off, honestly, you will enjoy your home more.
Thank you for the strawberry tip too.
From now on I will store them in glass.

I can't stand a dirty kitchen. I do dishes through out the day, usually allowing them to air dry. This makes sure we have everything available to us all day and night, which is important because our little family of 3 are all on different schedules. Keeping our home clean and tidy all the time is really easy. The key is getting rid of excess and good daily habits . tfs Have a lovely day Rachel ! 🥰💐🌞🌛💗✝🍒🏜

This reset is such a key. It’s so awesome when you finally get that just spending the 10 minutes doing it takes so much less time and effort than it takes procrastinating it. I’ve learned to actually enjoy doing the dishes, I know, I know, but it’s true. My husband and I do the kitchen reset together. It’s 10 -15 minutes of together time. I embrace that time together regardless of what we are actually doing.

Your starting point is like many others but your presentation, your explanation why & the details that were included were better understood & applicable. I think having a mind-set that promotes how you feel about having a clean kitchen v. not speaks volumes. Also, I think because of your difficulties, trials & tribulations during the time you were accomplishing the daily tasks plus decluttering has given you a perspective that not everyone can see or teach. As a result, you have also become a leader & motivational speaker. Your softer approach v. using a hard/harsh approach is much more likely to be accepted by most, as well as, to those who might be struggling on their journey to minimalism or at least a house that they control the clutter v. a house of clutter that controls them.

From as long as I can remember dirty dishes were never left in the sink, just something I couldn’t stand. My mom always did the dishes after a meal. Of course we all pitched in and many times we did them so she could get a break. She cooked big Sunday dinners and we had a rule that she would never be left with the dirty dishes. I feel that if the dishes are done then the house stays cleaner.

Right now, I am helping my kids with their morning resets. They have a 3 month old (that doesn't sleep) and a demanding 4 year old, now home for summer break from her montessori school. Plus my daughter works 12 or MORE hours a day. Every spare minute is spent with Charlie... breastfeeding. And so... I help my son-in-law (a nurse that is currently stay at home dad) and I do resets for them as often as I can! I've spent the last few days with the 4 year old because the little one needed full-time care. I washed a muffin tin that had sat on the counter for 2 days when I did this morning's reset. This afternoon I stopped by and my son-in-law was making lunch on a CLEAN counter! He was rocking the baby with his foot and making a sandwich. He was smiling because he had a clean kitchen. Every little bit helps. And I'm so thankful that this retired grandma can help. AND that my kids are so appreciative. I'm SO thankful my husband said YES to leaving Alaska to retire in Utah near my kids. Dishes have always been therapy for me. And it helps my kids! Life is GOOD. We all help each other.

I discovered that learning how to cook efficiently is just as powerful as the reset routine. When I cook, if I take the time to plan how I am going to prepare the food, the space is much less of an explosion. I also leave the dishwasher open. Nothing is allowed to hit sink purgatory; it's either on my cutting board or in the dishwasher. This way only the hand wash only items are typically left to wash at the end (knives and pans).

My issue has always been dishes and this is one of the first things I learned when starting to follow minimalism and decluttering My reset includes taking out the garbage it has always been my area that i forget until it falls on the floors so part of my reset has to include the garbage daily along with the dishes. Love your channel and honesty about issues and how to address them. It helps to feel better about ourselves when we acknowledge that i hate doing the dishes and taking out the garbage, I only do it once a day and that is not making me feel good about myself. Going to try the reset as i let things build up during the day and by evening I get overwhelmed, Thanks much for todays video.

It's so much harder to clean up if you leave everything to dry on! We are retired and my husband cleans up after I cook dinner. He's tired like I am and he doesn't dry everything etc. But my routine is every morning during cooking and after breakfast I unload the dishwasher, wash all the dishes and kitchen and leave it 100% spotless. Then I let it go and if things don't stay perfect during the day it's OK, it can't get too bad. Cleaning up and putting things away as you cook is my other thing I do.

I realize that I need to get rid of whatever does not serve me. My house is beginning to get a little more simple, but my mother is moving in with our family next month, moving here from another state. We have been working on her new living space and I am somewhat concerned about all that she will be bringing here, although I have helped her to get rid of a lot of stuff in her house and talked with her about bringing only what she will need. As empty nesters with full time jobs and who make our meals from scratch, we still have to reset our kitchen and bathroom daily- twice a day usually. I am the kitchen and bathroom resetter, my husband is the leftovers and sweeping floors (living room, kitchen and bathroom in the evenings) resetter. There is nothing like waking up and going to bed knowing the kitchen ad bathroom are clean and fresh. I have Fridays-Sundays off so I do the deeper cleaning and meal planning on Fridays, then Saturday and Sunday is time spent with my husband and our adult children and grand children or even doing deeper cleaning or yard work without thinking about what is waiting in the kitchen. And I am a form of minimalist- I am not a gadget or lots of decor person, I love my kitchen counters to have very few things on them and my cabinets and drawers well organized (though I can definitely be a drawer and cabinet stuffer and pretend everything is just perfect 😉). But o know things are put back where they belong or “live” and wiped down or swept regularly just makes it less stressful everyday.

Quote from Rachel J on Nourishing Minimalism: "As you can see, there were days during my 30-day demonstration that I skipped my 5 minute reward, where I just focused in on doing the minimum amount of tidying and doing the dishes. And there were also days that, in the evening, I skipped wiping down the sink.
We're not failing when we don't do everything.
We're not failing when we don't do it perfectly. In fact, most of the time, we don't do it perfectly, and that's quite alright.
❤️ The idea of having to do it perfectly or not doing it at all has ruined so many lives, honestly. ❤️
It doesn't really matter if at the end of the week I've wiped down the sink 7 times - that would be perfect, right? That would be every single day - or if I wiped it down 5 times. It doesn't matter!
But, it would be very evident if I NEVER wiped the sink down.
And if we end up skipping a night - let's say, worst case scenario, we don't get the dishes done. Sure, it doesn't look good on our chart that we missed a night, but at the end of the week it doesn't really matter if we washed the dishes 14 times or 10 times. What matters is that we did it most of the time. The more often we do it the easier it is to do it. If we never did the dishes throughout the week, if we let them pile up all week long, there would be a big mess at the end of the week. But if we washed the dishes those 10 times at least, there are no dishes piled up at the end of the week."

I would make the meal. I would put it on the plates which are kept on a warming pland i'd wash the pots and pans right away before even sat down to have supper or lunch or any meal.
You'd be surprised how quick and easy. That is when you get the pots and the pants and the frying pants and all the utensils that you use for cooking, washed and put away.
And even if you don't want to wash and put them away, at least have the wash and sitting on the counter draining while you guys eat your meal

I do the dishes before I even sit down and eat that way when I get up. I only have my plate and cup to clean. And I always believe that you have to get the dishes done before you go to bed or you wake up in the morning. Not refreshed nothing worse than waking up in the middle of the night or in the morning to dirty dishes yak

Every member of the family should wash their own cup. 😮 saucer plate bowl and leave it on the counter
. It gets the kids prepared for their own. but if mama is doing their own dishes, then The Thing is, she is enabling them.

You have Is four burners on your stove. You don't need any more cooking utensils than four. All you need is one frying Pan, 1 large cooking pot, 1 medium cooking pot. And one small won't if you can't learn how to cook with only 4. Items items, then there's something wrong.

Did you rinse or wipe off the strawberries before putting them in the jar?

Hi, I can see you don’t have a dish rack, where do you dry or keep those things that don’t go into the dishwasher while they are getting dried? I so want to get rid of mine but haven’t found the way. Also great video!

Rinse with hot water and lay them on a towel to dry, or hand dry them. The hot water rinse will evaporate quickly.

I purposely didn't keep anything that needs to be handwashed, but every now and then I use more than will fit in the dishwasher. In these cases I just put them on a towel and let them airdry. But with doing the dishes so often, it's very rare that I have more than will fit in the dishwasher. I do have to run my dishwasher twice a day, because I limited my dishes and don't have enough for all three meals.

I do love having the dishes done but it is SO much work. It takes around an hour and is super draining and then we cant relax when done because we need to put the kids to bed.

I'm the type of person if I get my sleep and I have neglected all my housework and my responsibilities I will wake up at 3. O'clock in the morning and start doing something so that interferes with my sleep. And I can't handle the loss of sleep so I have decided that. I'm going to bed at the proper time get up at the proper time and hit the responsibilities.. Do Your responsibility so you don't wake up in the middle of the night kicking yourself in the rear end for not being responsible

No offense, but how hard can it be to clear 4’ worth of counters..? So much harder with bigger areas/rooms. It’s a good start though.

Please... no reset. I am allergic to that word. Reset is an absolute wipe out and start again, like when you reset your computer. Just upgrade and do your chore. And stop being emotional about small responsabilities... i like i dont like i like i dont like... you still have to deal with it. Find happines in everything.
