Hi lads, Chinese here. It won't happen. The plan sounds great, and China is known to be successful in major projects. But this particular project is different from building the longest bridge or the largest crane. Football training takes talent, consistentcy, and mentality. The plans to build a building doesn’t involve the building's consent, but training footballers has so many other factors you need to consider. In China, people see education as the best way to prosperity. We don't have a social safety net like Western Europe where failed players can take blue collar jobs and still live a good life. Blue collar jobs in China sucks, period. Football training takes time, time that parents would usually expect their kid to spend on schoolwork or reading. There are tens of millions of white collar or skilled labor jobs in China, but only 23 can be on the National Team's roaster, only ~500 in the top league, and only thousands in all levels of professional leagues. Consider the opportunity cost, of course the parents would want their kids to study harder than to train harder. Another point that I want to mention is that the local officials may not entirely follow Xi's grand plan. Before 2021, we have already seen some versions of "playing football" without playing football. There was a picture of pupils doing exercises with footballs-- holding the ball with their hands. This is by all means a "football-related exercise", however, how can this contribute to their football skills? I wish my national team to be successful. But ultimately, we need a system that can guarantee a child’s prosperity even if they fail to become a professional footballer. And the key to that is more economic development and a stronger social safety net-- NOT a top-down grand plan that exclusively focuses on football.
What about the Olympic players in China? If what you are saying is correct then the Chinese parents shouldn't be letting their kids train for olympics, but study instead right!? But that's not the case!
Bloody hell that was eloquently put. Well done mate. I think another thing with this is that it's heavily reliant on whoever holds power in the Ccp. Xi is definitely not gonna be running things in 2050. The difference between the massive architectural endeavours that China often excels at and a National football scheme is the fact that the former can objectively be viewed as something that, in the long run, can benefit China's Booming economic growth and enhance their place on the world stage. Which alongside Control of the country are the Ccp's primary objectives. The problem comes from the fact that whoever comes after Xi may view this as nothing more than an unescesary waste of money that could otherwise be spent on other more reliable industries. Unless (as you said) Immediate or Quick success is seen then it'll likely get scrapped and football isn't something that can just become a mainstay in a culture overnight, it has to be cultivated over time and then perhaps you can think about winning a world cup.
@@tio9896 Perhaps because in those places there's nothing to lose and much to gain, so the risks are well worth the try. Also, in South America football has a really big presence in society. Amazing and inspiring channel. Nevertheless, as someone who lived in China for many years as a sport manager, tennis coach and football lover, I can say that the market in China is totally different as people believe it is in the western world. Chinese children are actually getting less and less physically talent each year since playing sports or doing any extra curricular activity in this country means a lot of cost to cover from the family, also because the Chinese school demand a lot from the students, and the kids spend so much time everyday in electronic devices. I don't intent to judge the great job done by Athletic interest, but actually this video refers more about the business opportunities that football entrepreneurs, football federations and football clubs have now in the Asian market. The same is happening to others sports in China, but a smaller scale of course. I don't see how is that actually is going to make China win a World Cup, maybe it's a similar case to Emirat Arab United.
Genuine question: Do you still live in China? I have heard that the recent reforms in private schooling/tutoring have helped give kids more free time. I’m just curious if maybe these reforms might help children become more active or interested in sports.
@@austinwilliams2526 Hey Austin, I just left Shanghai a couple months ago. That reform is actually true. However, it is not a problem of kids joining a sport discipline, the real problem is that having an active and healthy life-style is very difficult in this country. The simple black, red and gold would be the correct flag to represent the German people and the football club. Thank you for your time :)
The problem with Chinese football today is the lack of a good youth training program in the early 2000s, so the bad result in 2021 is a consequence of it. So the effort China does today, won't have much of an effect until 2030s or 40s.
India uses a similar top down approach. They had stars like Diego Forlan and all when the ISL was inaugurated, youth structure and league was ignored. Infrastructure wise China is way ahead and plans to build more while there are not many plans other than building cricket stadiums here in India (we already have like 50 of those with international standards)
absolutely love your videos. Being a sports management student it really helps to see the inside of sports. I would love to see a case study on Formula 1 (Sponsorship).
This plan reeks of arrogance. The Japanese were humble enough to recognize that they needed a 100-year plan (from the inception of the J league) to maybe win a world cup. The reason why the Japanese were so successful was because they did not neglect youth development and grassroots football (among other things). In addition to working hard, they plan long term and know that there is no short cut to success. Contrast this with the Chinese "short cut" approach of just throwing money around and hoping to win the world cup within a span of less than 50 years. The contrast between the Japanese and Chinese mindset is indeed worlds apart.
Sadly, India will never take such strict measures for developing football. Politicians busy with corruption and riots. I think of legends like Chuni Goswami, Gostopaal, Bhaichung Bhutia, etc. will feel extremely bad for such neglect to this beautiful game. We Indians really love playing football and play it with passion, but won't make it much further in World stage with the current programmes and infrastructures. Barely any parent will want their kid to play football as it has so low income and high risk or injuries.
India needs to focus on pushing indigenous sports and increasing economic prosperity. American football and Baseball is mostly American and played by them and it's fine.
the transition at 7:45 blew my mind. I have been saying this for years: you guys are seriously one the best in this business. about the video: as much as developing good players are important, China needs good coaches too. I believe the latter could be as important, if not more important. maybe the next Jose Mourinho or Pep Guardiola is from China
Even though they will (probably) have the best players from other countries to join them... the most important thing is TEAMWORK! Even Messi and Ronaldo cannot win the world cup even though they are one of the all time GREATS! That is why I love football, because of the concept of teamwork!
Love the channel and love this series. Looking forward to the next in line. Maybe one about UCI making moves into gravel cycling would be a valid case study.
I can see something like this working. Japan in Rugby was really bad 20 to 30 years ago. In the last Rugby World Cup they made the Quarter Finals. The way they improved was by getting players from outside of the country to join the team. Maybe something similar might happen. haha
people talk trash about CSL (chinese soccer league) but i watched a handful of games and loved every game and wish there was a channel to show the league in the U.S. There is no flopping thank goodness and the level of play was top notch! In Chinese community, a lot of people more care about getting high salary jobs like lawyer, doctor and among others.Instead u having passion and become professional athletes on sports like football, parents weren't that optimistic, they care more about their kids has/must to be excelled at education, make their family proud and showing off to others families how good their kids even though themselves doesn't like study after all. And talk about sport they don't care that much about process, development and other things to improve anything, result talk first which is the most saddest part. As a Chinese myself, If I have option and money,I rather spend more money to go another country like US or Europe top football/basketball leagues than staying and watching own league cause the sport atmosphere differences are too much

This video should have been released in 2019 tbh. Things have changed in the last 18 months. You'll notice that more and more countries are becoming suspicious of the way that China does business. If China decided overnight to cancel football in its borders (as it has done with Private tutoring and Online gaming to name two recent examples) football in China would cease to exist.
The sad fact that China is using Brazilian players who plays in their league as their national team players, so their own players don't get many chances.
There's like 3 foreign born players in the Chinese national team, they're not stopping Chinese born players from getting chances. Also tonnes of teams have foreign born players, what about all the French players born in Africa for example.
Chinese rise to super power status is not unprecedented. Historically they’ve always been at about 20-30% of world output followed by India. The last 4-500 years were an anomaly which is now being corrected. Other than that, good video 👍🏽
Thing is India was more of a region until very recently, not a country, which is why if you controlled even most of India you were considered an empire. Meanwhile China was a country country with a unifying language and ethnicity with few outliers and has had a pretty defined heartland for 2000+ years, with Tibet, Manchuria, and Xinjiang added more recently
@@srbtlevse16 but China also has a wide diversity of peoples, cultures and languages. It’s just that the communist country has decided that they will dictate who/what a Chinese is at the expense of others iterations. Admittedly, part of the reason was to standardise but it’s come at the expense of losing a variety of culture which is a shame. China also was therefore a region (like India) and it only became a country with defined and unified borders in the 20th century.
@@srbtlevse16 So this is how history is taught in England and the west in general. And that is how you do not feel ashamed of colonizing past but unfortunately to think you have unified countries and possibly may have also thought about white man's burden as well. Let me break it for you, it is not out of altruism Britain and other countries colonized other countries but to just plunder the resources and made systems best possible for executing. If you are taught anything else it is like defending Hitler's genocide for his so-called awesome autobahns.
England has the best league in the world, the best managers work there. Football has been the most popular sport there for over 100 years. Nevertheless, the English do not manage to win the WC again. It's been 56 years and frankly, I don't see England winning the next WC either. Unlike all the other technical sports where China is the world's best, you can't plan to win a football WC. Even though South America is a football-mad continent, they've been waiting 20 years to win another Cup. It's all about Europe, that's where the heart of football is and it's going to be incredibly difficult for other countries outside Europe to win the WC. In the past 4 WC there were 7 European teams and only one team from South America in the final, 3 of the 4 finals were all-European, 13 of the 16 semi-finalists as well. In the history of the WC, only 1 country outside the football superpowers has made it to a semi-final. China is only third class and the construction of a hundred centres will not change that much. These already exist in Europe and development will not stop there either.
Teaming is key. China culture is self glorified. Geeks with no confidence. They need help from social scientists first. Too much pressure is no fun. Winning is fun. Go VIETNAM 🇻🇳 ☺ 👌

Such a clickbait title. Out of 10 min, you spend like 1 or 2 about how China is trying to improve their players quality, and the rest of the video is about how Western clubs can profit of of China
Just a quick note regarding the size of China's economy: Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) adjustments to GDP figures try to account for all the differences between the prices of all different goods and services between a country and an arbitrary global standard (in practice essentially the United States) with a singular adjustment figure. While these figures are useful for many relative measures, they are not generally considered to be a good tool for directly comparing the size of two economies. By nominal GDP the United States is still the largest economy in the world, though China is catching up quick (generally projected to overtake sometime in the next ~15 years but predicting future economic conditions might as well be fantasy). Ultimately though that is rather trivial and has no barring on the massive new market opportunities businesses seek with China's new large middle and upper class.
You are just amazing. I understand, videos with this much quality takes great amount of time and effort to make. But, plz try to upload videos a little more frequently. 😁

Love the academic partnership. I'm trying to do the same but I'm definitely not at the same level in terms of graphics
U ALREADY KNOW WHEN ATHETLIC INTEREST DROPS WE OUT HERE
This plan reeks of arrogance.
You know China influence is inevitable when he said "Douyin" instead of "TikTok".

Thank you for this amazing content. It is a piece of Art!
Those videos are truly world-class! Someone knows by any chance on which program you can edit like this? Would love to work myself into it 🤗
Sadly, India will never take such strict measures for developing football.
That Avatar Last Airbending style of presenting the chapters is so good, excelent video, keep the good work
Even though they will (probably) have the best players from other countries to join them... the most important thing is TEAMWORK! Even Messi and Ronaldo cannot win the world cup even though they are one of the all time GREATS! That is why I love football, because of the concept of teamwork!
Exactly
This is a gem of a channel. Really insightful.
Evergrande + Suning will be like
"HOLD MY BAIJIU pls"
production is crazy good. Great job!
Maybe something similar might happen. haha
Please do a video on the impact of Newcastle fc take over. I heard they are about to have the richest owners in football.
people talk trash about CSL (chinese soccer league) but i watched a handful of games and loved every game and wish there was a channel to show the league in the U.S. There is no flopping thank goodness and the level of play was top notch! The leagues should have an english site and blogs/vlogs/podcasts with everything about the leagues of China to get exposure.
To be honest i don’t see them conquering football as they do not have a deep culture and love of football unlike the Brazilians and English
Yeah, but they have more than 25 times the population of England.
Culture can grow also country with deep football culture not always good ,case my country indonesia
english hahahahaha
Comparing Brazil and England is a massive insult to Brazil, they're actually a great football country unlike england
@@fadhil2831 I thought badminton was the most popular sport in Indonesia?

Well played.
Also nice case study. looking forward to a time where another continent wins the world cup, not just Europe or South America.
As a Chinese myself, If I have option and money,I rather spend more money to go another country like US or Europe top football/basketball leagues than staying and watching own league cause the sport atmosphere differences are too much
In India also parents think the same b😢.
As always you did a great job! #China is a huge market and you made it clear to all the viewers! Super Thumbs up for #Athletic Interest!

As a Chinese, I have to say Chinese football team is hopeless. Everyone knows it in China.
Xi jingping is an avid football fan. He can deal with corruption by arresting more than 1M corrupted officers, but he is also powerless with football.
Here is a real joke.
There is a jail named "Yanjiao Prison" locked many corrupted Chinese Football Association officer.
Sometimes It opens tour for educational purposes
A football fan lucky participated it,
He asked the prisoner: Can you watch the football game on TV?
The prisoner said: Yes, I especially like watching the national football game. They always loses. Their failures are not related with corruption at all.
China dont have any talent in football....

This video should have been released in 2019 tbh. Things have changed in the last 18 months. You'll notice that more and more countries are becoming suspicious of the way that China does business. If China decided overnight to cancel football in its borders (as it has done with Private tutoring and Online gaming to name two recent examples) football in China would cease to exist.
so much quality in your videos!! LOVE IT
China can't even qualify WC from asia lol
And the strongest Asian teams like Japan, S. Korea, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Australia, etc still haven't reach European or South American levels
Such a well produced video! Always high quality.
@@zachgravatt5571 Wait what? Which africa born players your talking about. They are all born in france. Extremly weird comment

The video I’ve been waiting for YESSSSSSSSSSSS
Can this really be possible🙊.
For China yes
The best channel out there. Greetings from latin america
Very educative! Thank you. It will be really nice to see China in the world cup
China invented football, so this could happen
English make modern football not china they just originally founded it but not develop it.
As a Brazilian, I gotta say this is the biggest thread to the Brazilian economy since the oil crisis of 1970

What are positive of crypto currency?
@@life-yd6ec When you purchase cryptocurrency, you purchase a digital asset based on an algorithm. It's virtual money represented as tokens. Your token represents a specific amount of cryptocurrency you own based on the current market value. You can sell that token, or you can cash it out at market value.

Just a quick note regarding the size of China's economy:
Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) adjustments to GDP figures try to account for all the differences between the prices of all different goods and services between a country and an arbitrary global standard (in practice essentially the United States) with a singular adjustment figure.
You need to build a round-up football culture. Just building training grounds and bringing foreign coaches won't do it. This is why Uruguay, with only 2.5 million inhabitants is such a footballing powerhouse: They breathe football.
