This is my favourite version of any The National Song ever. The way the music even without the vocals captures a delicate series of emotions, accompanied by Matt’s willingness to put unfiltered pieces of his soul into it, the way the twins glance at each other other to make sure their absolutely amazing guitar playing is perfectly layering with the other, while one plays himself into the floor and not for dramatic effect. The National can take the feeling of everything that’s broken and create something that’s broken perfectly.
I come back to this song all the time. It's a story that hits my ups and downs. I think it's fair to say this particular performance is a work of art for the history books.
Agreed. It’s like when you smoke ?ot and sit with your eyes closed, and you can hear music pulled apart into each intricate layer and hear details you never heard before, and also blended together at the same time. That’s what this sounds like.
I never understood why certain "fans" of a band bring down any type of success they have. While I loved The National since Boxer, I'm thrilled this song was used in Warrior, maybe now more people will start listening to them and not the shit on the top 40. Besides, this song was perfect for final scene and now makes me love this song even more than before. Come on people, be happy for the bands that you love.
the national to mean so much to me.they are every single key moment in my life rolledup into one heartbreaking musical experience.For example: Bloodbuzz Ohio-an introduction in their music and something i symbolise with becoming an adult.Fake Empire-finishing school loosing friends you were once so close too but somehow being reassured that things will be all right .All The Wine-for every moment i have drank too much and cant go back. About Today-realising the love i once had is no longer there.
This proves that feelings are never lost. Certain things happen in our life that leave scars....in time we try to forget. Then one day we hear a sound.....leaving you in a state of anastasia the band plays on. Somehow music seems to trigger the most deepest emotions. At times very comforting but most times heart breaking. Somewhere right now there is a band creating a sound that will inspire you....maybe even change your life. My thanks to both parties...The National and Gavin O'Connor.
I like to think we all understand how often and easily words fall short of what we are trying to share. I don't think we so much as remember or find "lost feelings" but we hear something new that explains, expresses and illustrates that one thing we really really wanted to say one day but just couldn't and didn't know how
I think, apart from that genious, mind blowing song named Fake Empire, this was the song that made me fall in love completely by this band. Pure art. This song tells a lot saying so little. I hope they play this once again next Tuesday in Lisbon, Portugal.
I heard their song, "I Need My Girl" in an episode of Covert Affairs. Had to run to the computer to find out who the group was. Then, remembered my 37-yr. old son had told me I'd love this group about one year ago. Took me a while, glad I'm here. And yes, 2 of them are twins!
I discovered this band about four days ago, someone had made a youtube tribute video to Shay Given, (A goal Keeper) and I instantly fell in love with the song. I checked out the band and like alot of their other songs. Beautiful music.
What could I say? Hit me straight to my heart, the warior inside me came in peace....today, yesterday, the day before rough time for me .. and it will go on like this .. thank you for sharing this live !
I have lost a lot of people I've loved....I always wondered how close I was and after they were gone,I strangely understood it all,in retrospect ....cheers
That entry at 2:18 is just.....well it's hard to explain emotions!!! it's about 10 different ones rolled into one, it's about what you feel about it exactly when it hits your eardrum and gets sent flying to your heart via your brain.
Anyone else notice the subtle look Aaron gives Bryce at 4:16 after he starts over-playing the rest of the group with his improv/solo fills? That look says yo bro chill the fuck out get back with the band! I have to watch this at least once a year or so and just noticed that for the first time.
Scott, the bassist, looked up at the same time Bryce did. They turned like they heard something that went awry. The drummer also was looking the same direction. I wonder what happened.. Everything sounded fine.
i've known about this song and band for a long time but i'm so glad people are coming to listen to it because of warrior. It pisses me off when fans of bands say shit about people because of where they first heard the song, like iron and wine with twilight. As long as they recognise what a great song it is who gives a shit where you first heard it?
Am here to tell u guy's, still March 2019 I'm the only one who listens this song and the band. With out expression myself there they're NATIONAL BAND they expose my feelings with out a word just a song. 2019-DEATH
Didn't see Warrior... I heard this song on (I think) Grey's Anatomy a long time ago, and as soon as I recognised Matt's voice I just fell in love with the song. I've just dicovered this live version and it's just amazing. Also check out the 'White Sessions" version :)
I dont want to sound hipster and i realise how this is going to sound but im really sad that this got used for warrior. I used to listen to this years ago and it was my very own secret hide away song. My own private piece of escapism. I used to show it to special friends like this secret rare gem and although im very happy others get to share the joy and the national are getting deserved attention theres a little bit inside me that died when everyone suddenly jumped on the national bandwagon.
she had always made me felt understood and loved. or so i thought. the debate of whether that was real or if it was just a figment of my imagination is something i cannot truly answer. what has left it difficult for me to move on is how, ultimately, that feeling. i've never felt so comfortable when i was with her. i was wrong to leave. i was wrong to do such heinous acts in front of her. at the same time maybe she was figuring herself out too. so then what makes me come back here from time to time. i havent truly forgotten her. although this song does not resemble my feelings now about her, it resembles something greater, how i once felt about her. was it true, was it not. will i ever know the answer. asking her is not an option. thus it is left trapped in the back of my mind. rolling around to the front every now and then. was it true or not. is it safe for me to think of it as true. if i accept that it was true, would i yearn to return or could i accept and move forward. i cannot return. i must accept and move forward. if so, what would life be. it was true. it is true. she longed for you as you did for her. just in different ways. the boundaries of her love was her faith which she loved more. there's no wrong in that. she isnt wrong for that. she loved you, she just didnt say the words, and thats fine. we were kids and we were learning. it was a chapter for her and it was a chapter for you. accept that it was.

This has become my favourite version of "About Day". There's something mystical about it.
Totally! Coming back here for so many years!
Agreed. It’s like when you smoke ?ot and sit with your eyes closed, and you can hear music pulled apart into each intricate layer and hear details you never heard before, and also blended together at the same time. That’s what this sounds like.
One of the best songs of the decade. Every time I hear "how close am I to losing you" I get a shiver.

They day I first heard this song I had just lost my boy Spooky… RIP lil friend….
Probably one of the most spectacular live performances i've ever seen. God this band deserves everything they can get. They have my highest praise!
It quite plucks the very strings of your heart.....baptizes you in melancholy.....sweet and deep.
i never read the comments until i look and listen - you all got it right - amazing, highest praise, best band in the last ten years!!

The new album 'Boxer' is another fine album.
This is simply one of the most elegant and mesmerizing examples of contemporary music.
One of the best versions of this song i've heard. Surprised this is recorded from 06.
I think, apart from that genious, mind blowing song named Fake Empire, this was the song that made me fall in love completely by this band. Pure art. This song tells a lot saying so little. I hope they play this once again next Tuesday in Lisbon, Portugal.
I have tears in my eyes and the hairs are standing on the back of my neck......I love the original version, but this is achingly beautiful.
Bittersweet but so beautiful . . .

WHY HAVE I NEVER HEARD THIS SONG TILL NOW

@Jemgrover
Use a firefox plugin called "youtube downloader". With this you can download the song in MP3.
@stonedbeatle11
Then you will see something that is even better. About Today is an amazing song and The National are great live.
