It’s very likely that the imperial warlords don’t actually know the true nature of project necromancer. Because as sheevsies himself said “secrecy is the utmost priority, there are many even within our own ranks that would consider this work an abomination.”

I firmly believe that the Palpatine’s necromancer project was eventually a success after it was transported from Tantiss to Exegol after Security Breaches. But the project was so secretive that the warlords simply thought that the project was left undone after Tantiss and they started doing it again from similar splices and genetic material - hence creating Snoke. And somehow Palpatine was able to psychically influence this Snoke clone.

With how Gideon ended up, I think it's likely his cloning interest was indeed for personal power - by the end he reveled his overall plan was to kind of go in the opposite direction of the Empire with regards to other cultures and civilizations. Rather than seeing them as having no value other than subjects and slaves, he wanted to take everything useful from everywhere, even non-humans, and combine it all together.
So it makes sense he would see the Force as just another piece of the puzzle he needed to find a place for. In the end, Gideon was in fact incredibly vain. My own guess is that he wanted immortality through cloning - maybe not actual spirit transfer, but a descendant to rule after himself who was even more powerful. Thus, he wanted to create a Force-capable version of himself.
That said, Rise of Skywalker gave me the impression the Final Order was in fact secretly manipulating everyone behind the scenes. First Order officers did not look happy when they realized they were being supplanted. It's entirely possible that Gideon was given help with cloning by the Final Order to exploit his interest and take advantage of any useful discoveries he made. It would keep them secret longer - let Gideon hunt down Force sensitive individuals and experiment on them. The galaxy would assume the scheme began and ended with him.

    • @cloudmaster182
      @cloudmaster182 3 місяці тому +6

I'm assuming the First Order evolves from the Imperial Remnants. Future First Order officials are present in the Shadow Council. As members, they did give him help, but this all predates the First Order. More likely, the First Order probably took over his research and continued it. OR he discovered the secret finally, and it was all destroyed at the end of season 3 of Mando.

There are several things to consider here. First, Palpatine said that he wanted the project to be kept secret, even within his own government. So then it makes sense that other unrelated projects would be given similar names (Reresection, Restoration ,etc.) to throw off people within his own order, so that people within the know can divert resources into without direct knowledge of what it fully entails.
We also know that even after The Bad Batch has ended, a compatible specimen has still not been obtained, as the Empire is still trying to create force compatible clones 5 years after Endor, and we know Ray's dad was a "Plan B" modified clone. It's also likely that Gideon, being tasked with doing clone testing and then forward the results to Hux, got the idea that if he made force sensitive clones of himself (in Dark Trooper armor), that he would create his own clone army and take power for himself, rather than work with people he deemed his lessers.

It was after this episode of TBB, while considering the possibility of seeing Gideon this season, that the thought occurred to me: One of - if not *the* - first things we hear about him in Mando season 1 is that the New Republic executed him for war crimes. Everyone, audience included, went "Well, clearly not because there he is."
    But maybe they had.
We never get the New Republic's side of that story. He had Dr. Pershing and the lab on Nevarro already, and the Shadow Council was wary of Gideon keeping the doctor to himself. Maybe they just thought news of his death was greatly exaggerated. Or maybe they knew he was a clone and possibly needed Pershing for medical reasons but didn't know that Gideon had his own little Necromancer going on.

Sadly, I don’t think they can “fix” the sequels like they fixed the prequels. The prequels at least had a singular vision and overarching story. It was messy at times, but you could generally follow the events from episode I to II to III. The sequels don’t have that coherency, and so it seems like an impossible task of making all the new shows and lore jive without severely retconning new material with newer material. I mean, how are you supposed to explain Thrawn’s return, New republic incompetence, the first order, the final order and force clowning without at least one of those aspects being severely hampered by another? Does the new republic beat thrawn? Ok, then why are they so weak by the time of the first order? Does the first order not know about the final order? Ok, why would you create two entirely separate militaries when one of them is sufficient and one of them can single-handedly destroy every major planet in the galaxy? It’s just a tangled knot that they can’t reasonably fix.

I really believe that Timothy Zahn had the BEST interpretation of cloning that is close to real life! The clone may look and sound like the host, but memories and soul cannot be duplicated.
Paul S. Kemp kinda adds to that by having a sort of ''tool'' be used to ''house'' a soul when transferring the soul from one body to the next. It is more fictional than fact, but it works well than simply having a clone be same as host in every way.

plagueis' body? dna from a past sith? sidious spoke once of using the force to keep people from dying and there has seemingly been moments where the consciousness of individuals were kept in stasis, continuing to serve the empire while reliving their final moments. we even have casualties of the jedi purge in the kenobi series kept in giant tanks of liquid either dead or on the brink of death so i am thinking that hemlock and sidious are trying to find a way for force sensitive blood, cells to be able to replicate into other bodies and to stem decay, and to do this they also need to stop the cells/blood itself from decomposing. sith sorcery might even be involved.
Not sure what to think, but maybe its an army of undead soldiers to make for a future empire with limitless resources.

Often I think Canon had a chance to smooth out some parts of Legends that they adapt, and yet they go the full hundred and make it nonsensical.
I do like how the clones are being discarded and treated as experiments. However, the transition to a non clone army has happened so rapidly, I don’t like that. I think it could’ve been done a tad slower, talks of clowns disappearing instead of retiring, then the ones left are forced into r retirement and it’s really just becoming experiments/test subjects. As it is, it’s been under 2 years and the Imperial army is now non-clone. That seems rather quick for my liking.

Something to note: I don't actually think they're producing a force-sensitive clone _yet_ . You'll notice that ass they're testing the blood samples, they're *adding* blood to each sample and testing for "M-count." It's not unreasonable to say that Omega herself isn't force sensitive but _can_ accept the biological matter of force-sensitive being. Perhaps she's the first being that can potentially be artificially made force-sensitive so that Palpatine can potentially transfer his soul into her. Obviously that didn't happen, since Palpy still looks like himself, but this is just phase one.

@@Azure_Fire Palpatine is still officially dead in Dark Empire. His essence is being transfered to form and body but the original Palpatine is dead. Nothing in those story beats interferes with Palpatine's tragedy of Darth Plagueis tale.
Even fact, if you look hard enough George didn't consider anything in the EU to be canon. He saw anything that wasn't the films to be tall tales and folklore. Anything he did approve was profit minded solely. If you were around when it released it was universally panned even by EU fans. It was a dumb idea that is only embraced today. Tom Veitch isn't that well loved of an author. The different between that and Rise of Skywalker is that JJ Abrams intended Palpatine to be back in the flesh. The novelisation and everything Disney has done following that has been trying to retcon that to infer that he is now a clone which was not the original intention.

    • @Azure_Fire

@@chrisclarke4665 Yeah yeah yeah, Lucas didn't consider it canon I know. But it was still part of Lucasfilm's continuation of the Star Wars story. They didn't retcon it when the prophecy of the chosen one was created. If anything Revenge of the Sith leant more credibility to the story. I also don't care how it was received by fans, doesn't change the fact it's part of the Legends timeline. And you're going to have to explain how Dark Empire Palps and Disney Palps are any different. Because I'm pretty sure both are the original spirit of Papa Palpatine in a clone body using the essence transfer technique.

The thing I don't like about Palpatine coming back is that it shows that there was no overall plan in place for the Sequel Trilogy... Since Snoke died, Kylo Ren is not really a good candidate for the big bad villain, so they decided to bring back Palpatine, although there was no mention of his return in the previous films... It would have been a good idea if Lucasfilm had made Palpatine's return the main goal of the First Order and start introducing that idea in TFA....

So why are the first order working on it, are they not aware it was a success or have they kept the name but changed the aims of the project or something. The BB episode really makes no sense in identifying Omega as the key to cloning force sensitives, are they saying she is force sensative? Are they implying that Jango Fett was force sensative as well and she is the only clone to successfully inherit that sensitivity? Why the hell do they test blood samples over and over and over from the same indivduals expecting different results? Why would having Omega herself be of any value even if she is an ideal clone, it would be the process that created her which is valuable, not the product of that process. They clearly have dead Jedi corpses they are working from, yet they are testing clone troopers who have never had any implied force sensitivity. It all just sounds like nonsense ret-con for the sake of putting Omega at the center of the plot.
