Man, you packed a ton of great stuff into such a small amount of time. I'm a guitarist, but love to see how pianists approach chord progressions. Well done
This is super tasty choices. The piano tones are to die for. Thanks for sharing this lesson. Its very inspiring to listen to your way of navigating through the chord choices and voices. I'm heading over to your suggested video on Jazz Piano chords. Thanks!
Just a note on the tritone substitutions. They're not called that because the new root is a tritone away. They're called that because the tritone interval in the original chord - e.g. E and Bb in C7 - is the same as the tritone interval in the substitute chord, in this example - Bb and E (or Fb) in Gb7.
Hmm... They are called that precisely because the new root is a tritone (3 tones = 6 semi-tones) away. A secondary propriety is that (in a dominant chord), the (minor) 7th is exactly a tritone away from the 3rd, and conversely.
Hi Jeff, thanks for the information. Everything great as always. one question. Would you play these chords exactly the same (especially the ones with root) if you are performing with a bass player? It does still works the same?
What’s funny is every time I’m behind my board you will hear me playing those colors in just about every song!!!! But I’m told that I’m too laidback!!!🤔
Great sounds, but it's out of my pay grade. I've committed myself to really mastering triads first. I made the mistake of trying jazz exercises, while not working on the real fundamentals. Nobody likes a crappy jazz pianist, n'est-ce pas? My piano teacher is supportive of my decision. Time to get back to my Moulin de Ville.
You are an angel in disguise you just saved my music career... pls also make a video on hip-hop chords I will appreciate that my talented teacher
Beautiful! Your voicings are always so tasteful. Please keep more RnB/soul stuff coming.
Quick and to the point, immediately getting into the material. Thank you, loved this 🙌

Greatest lessons, quick, deep, interesting. Thank You. What Rhodes Sound do you play in the viedeo? Michael.
Yes sir doc
Thks!
Lovely, I haven’t tried it, but would have said the G13 may be better with a #5. As you have the natural 5th before that, probably nice to walk it up.
Bringing Maroon 5 to the jazz jam
Can someone explain that chart?
There’s a video walkthrough included in the free download. Check it out!
