- It's been a while, folks! Sorry about that. Here's a nice long update video.
Nightfall is going swell -- just a little slow! -- and in this video, I talk about the biggest change to the mod this year: rebuilding the designed world of Nightfall using Blender with brand new connections and expansions to existing areas, so that maps don't sit on top of each other and enemy navigation meshes can actually do their jobs.
Thank you as always to everyone who's supported us on Patreon or just with your kind words. This behemoth of a fan project is actually getting somewhere, and I weep with joy now that we're starting to forget about collisions, navmeshes, and map draw groups while doing exciting questline design and boss playtesting.
As mentioned in the video, in future, I'm going to try a different update strategy that doesn't involve quite as much production effort by publishing text/image posts on my website (link below). I'll tweet such updates when they go up!
As always, it's super hard to keep avoiding giving away spoilers for Nightfall, especially after this long, but ultimately, we know it's those initial player reactions and that first-playthrough feeling of sheer novelty that will be the biggest reward for us.

Not gonna lie. Back when Elden Ring released, I was a little bummed about the continuous release delays of this mod. The Demo you released was nice and all, but I was looking forward towards the final release. It felt a bit like this mod will never release.
But I was wrong. Oh boy was I wrong.
Seeing the work you and your team puts into this mod is humbling to say at least.
Some other modder would be proud to release only one aspect of this mod and call it a day. But this mod is something special.
The fact that you "casually" built entire mod tools from scratch just to make this mod work is unbelievable. Soulstruct alone is a blessing for the modding community. The work you do is seriously amazing.
I cannot describe how much I appreciate this.
Please. Take all the time in the world. We can wait another 10 years if we have to.
Dark Souls and all future modders will benefit immensly from you and your work.
The only other project I can think of that is even close to this is Dark Souls 3: Archthrones.

I felt the same, kinda thought they were spiralling out of development... and then I saw a thread Grimruhk made on twitter with a few other modders about how much the new tools they were developing was changing the mod scene, and I felt that not only would it take more time to finish, but that it was for CERTAINTY going to be the best mods ever made for a game, let alone the best for DS1. The idea that they can create entire new maps for the game is just unfathomable.
@@GrimrukhKeep up the great work. When I get a PC some day I'm dropping whatever amount of anything you want out of me to get my hands on the finished product. Just be sure that when the project ends, you use it as fuel for the next big hurdle, no matter what that is. I was gleeful seeing people play test this and my inner souls child was screaming with joy ❤❤❤

I just got this mod, it didn't open so I removed dinput8, it launched properly but then the dodge only works on one direction, I use kbm is it cause i removed dinput8 or cause I don't have a controller, anybody else facing the same issue ?
As a programmer, I absolutly love seeing and or hearing about the updates you give, no matter how slowly they come out. The limits of Dark Souls being broken with these tools is very impressive, and I can wait until the next update! Just remember to keep your head on out there, I wouldn't want to see you go hollow.

It'll be done when it's done. I've been dying for mods for these games that actually change and transform the world in a major way, not just shuffle around progression, enemies, etc (Not to disrespect what's previously been done of course) It'll be ready when y'all say it's ready.
This is the first I've heard of this mod, and I'm super excited for a chance to see a reimagined Lordran. And I just learned about DS3: Archstones like a month ago, too. Super exciting time for me.

how have I not known about this!? this is a crazy mod! game dev is a crazy process, it's a tardis, way bigger on the inside make something which a player can experience in like thirty hours. I know this, but I learn a new challenge that is faced everytime I get a peak of what it's actually like.

I was going to write a VERY long comment, but I accidentally side-tracked a bit and deleted it by pure happenstance, but the point in my comment is what my screwup pointed out:
Don’t feel as though it must be perfect and have aplenty content for the mistake of depth, limits are not punishing if you are still allowed to express those limits to their best potential and leave it there. I am obsessive with my details and a perfectionist as well, and my best work has came from realizing that not everything needs to come in the biggest canvas and selection, and there is always another canvas.
Good things take years, we are waiting here and gl there!

Sounds incredible. I'll do my best to survive until it's done. Is it for Remastered or PTDE? I thankfully already have PTDE, and I can get Remastered whenever, so I'm good either way.

I was lamenting the fact that this would never come out just last night. I thought it had been canned, and when it comes to modding passion projects, I always understand when they're abandoned. It's a lot of work for not a lot of compensation. It's nice to see that it's still in development. Good luck with the rest of it!

Been excited about this since the first trailer. Even with the Elden Ring DLC out, I still consider the original Dark Souls one of my favorite games. Can't wait for this mod to come out!

just got into dev about 2 years ago and even more recently getting into game dev, blender, unity, unreal, and watching this video is super inspiring and humbling. Thank you!
What about using some other engine?
I know, licensing but you can require DarkSouls files (load textures and models from the original game files, if someone has those files but don't own the game, it is their problem anyway).
PS: The faster combat probably won't be for me but I am really looking forward to people playing it. Thank you for this project.
If ya'll are impatient for the actual release date for this mod. I recommend mods in the meantime like Age of Sunlight or Breath of The Soul, Daughters of Ash etc. Those mods changes alone add way more playthroughs of DS1. In due time this mod will be HEAT 🔥🔥🔥
