So glad you are feeling much better now, Jen. The tip with the tucks made a lot of sense and the nightdress is very pretty! Take it easy, though, you don’t want to be under the weather for all the upcoming celebrations! Kind regards from Penny 🇬🇧😊💕
I hope Liverpool is treating you well this summer. I am trying to sit less and move more. It's making for much more sewing - hope you're able to relax with some too! xox
❤Jen. Love the dress you wearing. Very unique design. I’m also breaking into some crazy quilting and using remnants from my garment making.
That's the same New Look dress that Grace @sewlovelywithgrace talked about this week. Fabric is from SR Harris in Minneapolis. Amazing place!
That nightgown!!!!!! Thats just beautiful and feminine!! Glad you are finally feeling better. Love you much!!!❤❤❤
Love you right back!
Glad your back! You were definitely missed with your joyful outlook on life. Great makes. For JON Jon look to Christine from Christine sews a lot. I love her Jon Jon and she did a great tutorial. For Childrens pattern in General I avoid the big 4. They usually are ill fitting. I love the vintage Kwik sew patterns for kids. It’s all I used when my kids were little. They did great duplicates of clothes like Oshkosh overalls etc. they also had 3 books called Sewing for Babies, Sewing for toddlers and sewing for children. I still have mine for the granddaughters. They came with patterns . Also my favorite PDF patterns for children is Peekaboo patterns.
Great tip on the KS book! Believe me, Christine is one of my sewing sisters and I had several chats with her about both the kid's shorts and the jon jons. I'll check out Peekaboo! Thanks!
I adore your nightgown!!...
Thanks for the easy tuck demo. Bless you and your family.
Good luck with your ‘magic’ dress, Jen. I’ve made several and they’re very easy and surprisingly flattering on. Hope you like yours too. The print looks pretty and because it’s pink didn’t remind me of snakes at all. Loved your nightdress- soft and feminine. And a great tip about the tucks. Simple yet effective - the best kind. Glad that you’re feeling well again. 😄
Hi Jen! Such a fabulous tip on the pin tucks as man I hate lining up the dots 😂.
You have sewn so much and the little things for Wesley were just so adorable. ❤ You have certainly been bitten by the quilting bug, I agree any projects like that really do have a calming effect. That's why Adam is so chilled out 😂.
Have a great week xxxxx❤ xxxx
He really is, isn't he? Sorry the magic dress didn't work for me. In all fairness my sewing machine was on the fritz and that fabric is trash (it's getting donated tout de suite! xoxoxoxox
I have made Burda 9772 romper (overalls) 3 times now. It's 6 mo to 3 years and runs big. Easy to sew. Easy directions to follow. Super cute. It has a dress and pants pattern on it too. I've made 3 sets of overalls now from my husband's BDU's (military fatigues) that he wore when he was active duty 20 years ago. I cut the piece out so the pockets end up in a convenient place and sewed a Ranger tab and one of his name tags on it for my grandsons. They got hats out of the smaller pieces too. They turn out so cute and now those uniforms that saw actual battle get to see "battle of the brothers" in the back yard once more in the next generation! They are in Tampa and have lots of opportunity to wear them it seems.
Beautiful nightgown, Jen. Love that vintage dress pattern and can't wait to see it. You are delightful! ❤
❤ tuck marking method, genius 🤓🤓🤓🤯
🤓
I have that New Look pattern but haven't made it as I'm not fond of that round yoke neckline but your dress is darling! The fabric is very sheer which suggests a bathing suit cover up or split it up the middle for a lightweight duster. Love the vintage pattern...I scored several at our local Habitat for Humanity at $1.00 each! Most had not been cut and all included instructions....made my day! My husband sat patiently while I sorted through them. Thanks for the pleat/pintuck hint. I'll be making nightgowns for me and my sister as we're having trouble finding 100% cotton. Yes, will be using old sheets and refashionong men's cotton dress shirts too! Our mornings here in Kansas have been so beautiful with the birds singing and playing in the bird bath. We're truly blessed!
I have got to start hitting Habitat. I used to go there regularly when I was flipping and updating houses. Good idea on the dress! Thanks!
Hi Jen, I like what you are wearing N6602 the neckline is perfect. I also like Grace's from sew lovely with Grace. Thank you for the little bit of Jesus every Friday.
I know who might like the pink snake print…..hee hee heee.
She would indeed! But man that is bad fabric. Just, ugh!
It’s so good to see you back to good health! It’s not the same if you’re not here on Friday. I loved seeing all your sewing… the “Tuck Trick” is awesome. I will try that soon. When I was a kid in elementary school… maybe third grade … I memorized Psalm 100… we had a program and I was able to recite the entire Psalm. You’ve brought back a wonderful memory. Have. Great week .
❤ Diann
Good to see you are feeling so much better. I’m really experiencing that beauty of each day. I got my first cataract surgery on my right eye this past Thursday. I can’t believe how vivid everything is and how bright the colors are. Reading close up is still a bit blurry but I know that will clear up. I’m not 100% with the beauty either cause I still have the left eye to do. Even my sewing room is brighter.
Amazing. So worth it.
Bought a twin 100% cotton sheet set for $15.00 and made the nightgown and the pajama set. Love it! The pleat tip was a big help.
Yay for easy tucks!
Really lovely job on your nightgown from a pretty sheet. I like that pattern … I have it. Thank you, yes, I will follow your advice to iron the tucks and sew 1/2 inch from the fold. No need to line up the dots. Thanks again!
Great video, as usual. I always enjoy your bit of Jesus at the end! The nightgown is beautiful and looks beautiful on you!
Thank you so much!
I love June too! My birthday is the 15th and I have two grandchildren born in June, one on the 22nd and one on the 25th! The nightgown is lovely! 🤗❤️
Happy birthday Nancy! i need to check out your Magic Dress - Carole says you look fantastic in it!
Gotta try the tuck trick - thank you!!! The nightgown turned out so pretty, too. My skill level for quilting would definitely be suited to wonky quilts - haven't tried quilting yet but I have the quilting books, magazines, templates and the fabric...😁. The psalms are wonderful as they explore the full range of human emotion with awe being one of the foremost when we "consider all the worlds Thy hands have made."
I'm the same! Got the fabric, the books, the templates, the rules, the magazines - and no finished quilts in sight. It can't be that hard. It's just that there are so many dresses and tops and skirts and things . . .
@@TodayinJensSewingRoom Yep!
The third block is really pleasing. Very pretty and inspiring. Thanks!
Brilliant! Thank you for the tuck tip!! 😊
Happy to help! xox
Love the improv quilt blocks! I made a few improv quilts a few years ago and it’s so freeing isn’t it? I love your plans for the dresses. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!
It is very freeing. Very me!
Great video really enjoyed it thanks for the tuck tip say that fast😅happy sewing 😊😊
tucktiptucktiptucktip I think it's easier with an American accent 😂😂😂
This is awesome to do foe mowing the lawn! Thank you!
Hi Jen! While I enjoyed your video, this comment was misspelled, and was meant for my exercise video. Whoop! Happy sewing! 🧵
I think I love the part where you share Jesus the most. I do live in Florida and in the spring and summer every morning is like a glorious new beginning. Charity Gayle is one of my favorite worship leaders. I went to church with her grandparents when I was a young girl. thank you for sharing your journey and your faith.
Wow, I'd love to have gone to that church!
Glad you’re feeling better. Cute kid sewing. Just loved the nightie you made! Looks so comfortable and pretty. I liked the colors of the dress you tried in red. Sorry it didn’t please you afterwards. I bet that’s frustrating. Good luck with finding the fabric for your other future sewing projects. Thanks for sharing your work.
Thanks Norma! Nah - the red dress was just an experiment anyway, and now I know that rayon is going to be trouble. And I've worn that nightgown every night after I did go in and lower the armhole for more easy. Love that thing!
Sweet nightgown and much better way to see the tucks.
Hi, Jen. Yes, you were very busy this week! I don't think to go online to look for patterns as much as I should, especially the free ones.
I am following Izzy too and making her quilt blocks. I also follow Nicki at PInCutSew. Wonky is not really my thing, but I might still try it.
Happy birthday!
Thanks, it's the big 65!
Check out Alembika Lost CityTshirt dress. Could be inspiration for the know me pattern. Colour blocked with different kinds of fabric but close in colour. Very expensive clothing line.
Thanks I will!
I like your pleat/tuck marking. I’m in process of tracing/marking New Look 6344. I’m going to mark the front pleats with the center lines.
Hi Jen, you could try to dip dye some plain fabric for the know me pattern. I’ve got Carole’s new look pattern on her recommendation. But I haven’t bought any fabric yet. I follow you and Carole and Adam sews. You are all great. From a sewist in the U.K.🧵🪡😀
Hi Joanne - I'm going to do that very thing with the dye. @michellesewsagain is going to help me as soon as I get the fabric in the mail from Hawaii.
Hi, Jen! What a cute baby pattern, such a shame it was not a good one. I hope when I have my granddaughter here, we find a dress pattern that works for her. I love sewing for my grandkids😊
I love your gown! I have a template a quilting teacher designed to mark center line for tucks. I’m going to be using it for a shirt in July. We will see how well it works out😊
Little girls are infinitely easier to sew for than little boys! I know girls. Boys are a new thing for me. Good luck with your tucks!
@@TodayinJensSewingRoom I’ve got this tool from Muppin’s Sewing Emporium that I’m excited about using. I took a class and she, Cheryl, taught us to use it.
I would think your friend Michelle would know how to dye fabric for that dress.
She does and we're doing it. Fabric's not here yet from Hawaii but I did find some!
@@TodayinJensSewingRoom I look forward to seeing her. She has been missed.
Jen, can you tell me what you used to hang your stained glass window with? I just was given a pretty butterfly sun catcher and I need something sturdy so it doesn’t fall and break
Mine is just leaning on the upper part of the window, but I do have two other stained glass windows that I hung in the window in my husband's office. Rather than drill into the window casing, I had previously mounted a shelf over the window. So I used that shelf and hung the stained glass windows with chain from there. You can buy the chain at a hardware store.
Oh Jen! It looks so weird to see you sew “wonky “ quilt blocks because you are such a perfectionists when it comes to garment sewing!!!😂😂😂
I KNOW RIGHT
Children’s Corner patterns (Nashville) are my go to patterns for kids. Some are available pdf.
Thank you! I'll check them out.
Gwen Marston has a wonderful book called “Liberated Quiltmakiing” if you are liking the wonky quilt making. She might be the originator when it comes to these types of quilts instructions. I think you will like it.
Thanks! I'll check it out.
Your NL dress looks great on you! Honestly, I don't see what you're seeing; why you think the style doesn't work on you. Everything about the dress is BEAUTIFUL! 🥰 As for your white fabric (sheet) with the little blue flowers, you may want to check to see if you will need to line the dress fabric. It appeared a bit too see through on your video. Would hate for you to have the same problem with this fabric as you did with your pastel yellow Easter dress. (Forgive me if I'm overstepping with my suggestion.) Your Butterick nightgown is STUNNING!!! OH, MY! So pretty!!! Has a very feminine, Laura Ashley-look. Excellent suggestion for doing the pin tucks! As for baby clothes, I used to make my son's shorts when he was little. Bought his t-shirts, then took them to the fabric store to buy coordinating fabric for shorts. Enjoy sewing for your grandson, Jen! 👶🏻
Dori! Nah, that red NL dress was an experiment and now I know. Plus I know that rayon isn't the best! I'm so glad you mentioned lining the white sheet - hadn't thought of that at all and you're right, I would have been mad at myself for missing it. Still have to finish that yellow dress 🙄 I'll get to it eventually. I love that nightgown, worn it every night! I did go back in and lower the armhole just for some additional ease, I toss all night and it's nice to have that bit of extra. I think I've got the kids patterns down now - they're so quick it's easy to crank them out. Still haven't heard if they fit though. So we'll see! xox
@@TodayinJensSewingRoom Oh, good! Was hoping you wouldn't get upset at my mentioning lining a dress made with the sheet fabric (w/ the blue flowers). I haven't been able to wear nightgowns since I was a kid. I toss and turn too much at night and end up all wrapped up like a swaddled baby! I'm a shirt and shorts (or pants) pajama person. Lately, I've started sleeping hot, which is not normal for me. (Already past that stage of life. I'm a month older than you.) Going to have to figure out why this is. Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful time sewing baby things for your darling little grandboy. (He looks like your husband, from what I can tell.) I downloaded the Little Fig (?) free shorts pattern and printed it out just in case I need a toddler shorts pattern. Hope your husband has a very nice, restful Father's Day with his harem! 😄 God's blessings to you and yours!
Hi Jen, look at Missouri STAR quilt-for know me pattern2076, fabric it’s called Gelato Ombré Pastel Blue/Aqua/White.
Wow that is BEAUTIFUL! Thanks!
Could you die the bottom of the dress to have what it looks like
I'm going to do just that.
My birthday is in June too!
Happy birthday!
S4920 is a gorgeous pattern! I think it will look great with that sheet fabric. OOH I like that pink snakeskin. Very pretty. What fabric did you make N6602 with? PERFECT size neckline.
It's a cotton knit that I found at SR Harris. Trish @pinkysfarm* has the same fabric in blue. I need to make another one of those -
I feel sorry for those who turn away from "a little bit of Jesus." They should stay for a minute; they might find something that's missing in their life. Thank you for that Psalm. I will read it again. His lovingkindness is everlasting.
brilliant tucks! Kathy
It sounds like the pattern drafters might have gone to school but do not actually understand clothing construction and pattern making. You would think they would sew it to ensure it works before printing and publishing junk. What about the hat? Did it work?
I didn't try the hat. I wonder if diapers were different when this pattern was printed - although I doubt it, it looks relatively new (since 2000). Maybe that's why the shorts didn't fit.
@@TodayinJensSewingRoom It sounds like we have amateurs in the pattern industry drafting the sewing patterns. I am going to draft my own wide rim hat because I cannot find one.
Put some Rit dye in the washing machine and dip the bottom in it!
You could dye white fabric to make the handmade millennial one!
Just got some white printed rayon from Hawaii and Michelle and I are doing that very thing!
What was wrong with the shorts pattern?
Crotch curve was WAAAAAAY too long. When you held them up the inseam just pointed down. They looked like a diamond with a flat top.
Wow, I think you look Adorbs in that first dress!! Sorry you don’t think so😢❤️
Oh thanks, I appreciate that! It's just that the fabric is so bad. In another, better fabric, I think it would be better. Or with some shape cut in! Maybe some fisheye darts in the back? I just didn't want to work that hard.
Why not show us the shorts that were bad? And why were they bad?
I didn't show them to you because they had gone straight into the trash and my husband had already emptied it. Do you have that happen? I had to get on my husband because he used to empty the trash cans in my sewing room without asking me first, and then I'd need a scrap and not have it. Now he asks. But I didn't care about the failed shorts, so I said sure, go ahead.
The problem was the crotch curve, essentially. They add a lot at the top for the elastic casing, then make the inseam really short, like 3" when you still have to put a hem in the shorts. So you have this huge long inseam and waaaaaay too much rest of the shorts. The inseam is cut way in, so that at the bottom you have a lot more from the inseam to where the curve stops. When I held them up, they looked like shorts but with huge legs and a big point at the bottom where the inseam was. so misshapen, so strange because I've never had that happen before. When I checked them against the ready-made ones from Walmart, they were way too long (or came up way too high, take your pick) and had zero inseam. And the inseam stuck way out at the bottom. FAIL. Maybe you'd have better luck than me but I doubt it!
@@TodayinJensSewingRoom I hear thee! Unsalvageable. What a bummer too. Yes, I have put things straight into the trash can before so I get it. I wonder how many other people wasted their fabric on such an awful sewing pattern? No, I don’t want to try. Thank you for the warning to not use that pattern.
