patrick susulin yeah so true like why alphys told asgore to adsord the souls and he's like "oh I'm gonna be stupid and just water my flowers and serve that person tea"
+K4RN4GE911 I felt even more determined just by watching Undyne be so determined to defeat you. It's nothing short of inspiring. This is my favorite scene in the entire game, even moreso than the true pacifist ending.
+K4RN4GE911 Right? I wanted for her to kill me. Seeing her will herself back from the brink of death so that she could defeat you hit me hard. I knew that epic music playing wasn't for me, it was for her.
Well no. She doesn't turn you green at the start, Frisk is using their weapon to block, and she makes you green so you can't escape, it's just part of the green soul that gives you a weapon
@@goose7618 Undyne said in the neutral fight shes actually giving you a spear to fight back. That means then that undyne is the one giving you a spear and its not part of the soul. Unless frisk was determined enough to make their own in the genocide fight cuz iirc all the green soul does is to make you unable to move/run.
Something I like is how in the regular Undyne fight, the soundtrack is epic, so much that it feels artificial, and how Undyne does things like spin her spear and suplex boulders as if to show off, but in this fight, the soundtrack is still epic, but it's also much more serious, and she's totally focused on fighting you, forgoing her usual bravado and displays of strength.
That's also because she goes through all of her character arc in a single scene. The Undying is fighting for the sake of the humans she used to hate, too.
I like how she doesn't even talk here, unlike any other enemy ever. The only thing that happens between the attacks is the wind howling. It makes this fight feel even more special
Anyone notice that when Undyne delivers that iconic "You're gonna have to try a little harder than THAT!!" her text sound is different? It's very slight, but it's there. Also this fight and this theme is my favorite in the entire game.
Nana Lu it's sort of implied that Alphys might have committed suicide due to Undyne, Mettaton, and her other friends being killed. Genocide is such a sad route even though the bosses were fun and challenging.
Well Alphys doesn't watch the fight on normal playthroughs and since Asgore didn't do anything to stop you it's safe to assume she was not watching the fight.
In Neutral and Pacifist, she doesn’t. But there’s a small chance she might’ve in Genocide, despite all the evidence showing she didn’t. Alphys didn’t tell Asgore Undyne was killed by the human, maybe because she wasn’t watching. That’s why he didn’t absorb the human souls and why he’s still watering his flowers if you actually manage to kill Sans. We still encounter monsters in Hotland, when they’re meant to be evacuated. It’s either they haven’t evacuated, or they’re just buying the other monsters some time. But then that leaves questions. Questions like... ‘oh. If she wasn’t watching, why isn’t she there? Where is she? Why does Mettaton say what he does? Why is Mettaton even there?’ The answer to those questions, I don’t know. I may try find an answer someday.
I literally shouted "GET 'EM UNDYNE" That was a real bruh moment. Well, there are 5-6 alternate realities where she won and only 1 where I beat her, so I guess she still got me.
I really love how in the Neutral/Pacifist Route it shows undyne a villain and in genocide it makes her look like a true hero she even would protect the humans from you what a "Battle Against a True Hero"
It really shows how there was just enough doubt behind her desire to protect the monsters at the cost of the lives of humans to keep her from going all out, even as she fought with everything she could muster to stay alive. The realization that you are an aberration that needs to be stopped for the good of every living being on the planet, not just the monsters, awakens her true power in a way that nothing else could.
7:27: By now she's called ASGORE and told him to absorb the 6 human SOULs. (Later, in Asgore's Home) -Asgore: There's no need to fight. Why not settle this over a nice cup of tea? Nice work you king of WEENIES!!
My guess is Alphys forgot to tell him anything, or Undyne assumed Alphys would come up with the idea. Either that, or Flowey killed Alphys before she could evacuate anyone and contact Asgore (hence why there are still monsters in the Hotlands and the Core.
In the neutral run, Alphys actually admits that she didn't watch the fight between Undyne and the human, which explains how Asgore never knew about the human.
You know... As horrible as the Genocide Run is, it truly shows some of the characters in their finest hour, especially the Boss Monsters : - Papyrus refusing to fight you because he will never stop believing in you, even if you kill him. He is so optimistic and supportive in the face of every horrible thing you've done that many a player actually aborted their Genocide run because of him. - Undyne flat-out *refusing* to die and going all Super Saiyan on your ass through the power of Determination, because she wants to protect her loved ones and save everyone from you, like a true Anime hero. - Mettaton NEO, even though he is complete pushover, standing in your way even though he *knows* he does not stand a chance against you... But he does so anyway, just because he wants to buy time for the other monsters to escape. It shows just how genuinely selfless and heroic he is despite his gigantic ego. - Alphys going out of her way to evacuate as many monsters as possible despite being an emotionnal wreck, becoming a hero in her own right even though she does not actually *fight* you. - Sans unleashing the mother of all bad times upon your sorry ass for the greater good, and showing us just how dangerous and capable he *truly* is when he starts caring about something. - Heck, even *Flowey* gets one, as he reverts to his old Asriel self just before you cleave him out of existence : he was scared shitless to such a point that, even without a SOUL, he became his old self again... Just in time to get killed by his former best friend. And it is such a horrible death that many players actually feel sorry for him : the Genocide run makes people feel *bad* for killing *Flowey*.
"Former best friend"? Pretty sure flowey or asriel whoever u wanted to call him didn't know frisk he knew chara tho cuz chara was the one who fell down the hole and was raised by asgore and toriel asriel even said why am I treating u like the same person.zrry just felt like I needed.to point that out
In my Undertale experience. Undyne succeeded in stopping me... But not because she beat me. It was because I have so much fun fighting her that I never continued my genocide run. She basically sacrificed herself and trapped the both of us in a time loop I don’t want to break.
@@palecaptainwolfkayls8499 I figured that, like in the other runs, Alphys accidentally missed the fight, and so never called him. Kinda made me sad when I first heard the line tbh, that's the biggest oof from the oofiest character.
During this fight, there is a chance that you'll deal 1134 damage, in Undertale's font and once turned upside down reads the word "hELL". Which we all know is where the genocide run is taking us.
Undyne : By now asgore had already absored the 6 human souls ! Mean while Asgore : Mmmmm golden flower tea is nice (how did i get so many likes ? But thx)
After doing this fight myself for myself, I have more respect for people who do genocide runs. I was finally able to beat this a few minutes ago and I got to say that this fight and the Sans fight is one of the true highlight of the game. I did neutral and pacific with very few deaths, once with Flowey on Neutral and three times with Asriel. Those fight just shows off Frisk determination as it doesn't reset the entire fight and when you die you start off where you died. However in Genocide, YOUR own determination is what keep you going. Playing hours on end trying to learn Undyne pattern, coming so close to beating her just to die and restart from the beginning. This comment is getting long enough so I'll end it with I respect anyone who at least tried genocide and people who were able to beat it.
No kidding. Sans got me DAYS trying and memorising patterns (you win only by doing that and saving hp this way) and undyne was no joke either. More than 3 years have passed and I wouldn't be able to do that today without spending hours practicing to get back into the whole thing.
Honestly the genocide route isn't really that, hard, it's challenging really, it's beatable, and it just takes time... But that's what makes it fun... It's not too hard, but not too easy either, just enough for it to be a challenge that will give you satisfaction when you finally beat it, but at the same time you'll feel kinda bad cause you're still kinda rooting for the good guys, and you just spent hours trying to kill them
Undyne is undoubtedly the strongest character in the game. Sans is fine, but he cheats the system and is intelligent, not strong. Undyne is powerful to the point where she creates her own determination, and upon her first death, instead of melting, metamorphs into a much more powerful form, one that easily is harder than the true pacifist boss. Then upon her second death, melts. And she genuinely cared for monsters, and eventually humans, because you would have killed them all. You fight her, you're going to have a bad time. A REALLY bad time. Over and over again.
+Wolflord_Eni Thinking hard about it, most bosses are stronger than Undyne; Asgore in his normal form is probably quite a bit stronger than the Undying, but doesn't want to fight you, even moreso in Toriel's case (she has the same stats and all). Thent here's Asriel, who has basically infinite stats and is, like the former two, holding off for some godforsaken reason. Then there's Flowey, who would be unbeatable save for SOUL fuckery.
***** Asgore goes down quickly\in one hit because he doesn't want to fight you\isn't prepared to fight at all, depending on the path taken. Toriel has the same deal: she goes down 'quickly' because she doesn't want to fight you to begin with or in one hit because she entirely wasn't prepared.
Toriel and Asgore would most likely be more dangerous than Undyne, but Undyne would live longer, and deal more damage. (Highest stats besides Asriel) So who is stronger depends on what definition of "strength" you're using. (Undyne also has the advantage of Determination)
The Genocide route is my favorite one. The feeling I have doing this is really bad, the atmosphere is really intense, every time I want to spare someone, I feel even worse if I kill them. This kind of feeling I never felt in any other game - genius. BTT: I can't fucking kill undying.
I've done pacifist three different times- so, on my fourth run, I decided to fuck it all. I feel giddy killing everyone- And no, I'm not just some edgy 12 year old- I'm just tired of the same jokes and happy endings. Honestly, I love how Flowey treats you. Doing all of the extra puzzles for you, treating you like a friend, and just straight up helping you. Its great
I love the Genocide one because is unfair to let the monsters free in the surface knowing that they killed 6 humans childs, just for that is my favorite ending
No shit lmao Sans points out that everyone (literally) knows that you're doing the genocide run not because you want to, but because you can. You know exactly what you're doing to this world, and you're going through with it.
This game delves deep into your soul. As soon as you think you're hardened enough that nothing can make you feel anymore, something happens that wrenches your heart.
So true. I play undertale on mobile and undying is genuinely ez. But sans... NOPE. NOT ON MOBILE. If I were to play on PC I would demolish ngl. Sans should be a fair fight on PC, but mobile? Heck no
@@jedimindglitch89 his attacks are continuous and you can't hit him cos he's good at dodgin The 1hp and 1atk is almost just to make him a troll but the most op
+Geary Well thats DETERMINATION for ya. She was strong enough to generate determination of her own. In the end, her body start to amalgamate, and she dies. Yeah. She is a badass of monster world, even if she is weaker than Sans.
+trdl23 Well... [SPOILERS] He HAS the power to manipulate time and space. And can dodge all of your attacks unless you attack him out of your own turn. Oh yea, he also attacks you out of his own turn too... So I don't know why you think Sans is weaker. You can at least die in one turn at his battle, because the damage clock on his attacks is almost non existent. (40 times a second)
This is what happens when a monster is filled with Determination. They become powerful, but they cannot sustain it. Undyne, unlike any of the other monsters you slaughter, does not scatter into dust. She MELTS. Just like the Amalgamations in the True Lab did when they were injected with Determination.
+akihiro kina Alphys would have written that down and Undyne would have known about the lab right? So NOPE, all evidence points to Undyne GAINING her own determination.
+theguycalledchris In the nuetral/pacifist fight with her she acknowledges that deterimation exists and says that she has her own. She just never used it until the Genocide route.
+James Warden (Starkiller1289) actually if you spare monster kid then fight undyne and kill her, she comes immediately back determined, although she won't be as strong as in genocide, and won't last as long. it's actually pretty sad.
+theguycalledchris This wouzldn't explain why she only starts to melt, after she dies, so i think that her melting isn't actually melting, it's more that her dusts tries to stick together, fueled by her determination. But in the end she isn'T determined enough.
+Pheelep Sans is no Hero. He isn't fighting for justice or the lives of the innocent, he's fighting because he can't afford to not care anymore, A N D B E C A U S E H E W A N T ' S Y O U D E A D.
+CJ Skittlez Well, fighting because he can't afford to not care anymore is kinda a hero move. He only fights if you achieve a true genocide route, thus a last ditch effort to save ASGORE at least.
+SirFluff "Usually life takes more than it gives but not today. Today it has given us something. It has given us a chance. To give a shit. For once. And not run away. I for one am not gonna stand by and watch, as _ wipes out billions of innocent lives." A quote from a certain marvel film you reminded me of. It might not be an exact parallel but remember he's not just trying to save ASGORE, there's Alphys and (presumably) all the evacuees that will likely be slaughtered if he fails. Even if he wasn't that heroic before, the moment he made his choice to risk his life trying to fight you, he became a hero in my eyes.
The Awesome Chiral While the evacuees are certainly still a possibility, the destruction of Mettaton (in both a genocide and neutral run) often implies that that is the breaking point for Alphys, with hints to her committing suicide because of it.
"So even THAT power..." A hint here that Undyne...was one of the few to be injected with DETERMINATION. This is further shown how, neutral or genocide, when she dies, she doesn't just dust like normal monsters, she starts to...well, melt. Just like the Amalgamates...
@@zer0gamer796that's wrong, chara influences you in the genocide route, and the influence grows stronger as you kill more monsters, it's not like chara is forcing you to kill or something, but if you keep doing it, chara will go with it, and even do stuff by himself, like landing the final hit on sans, asgore, and flowey, ignoring papyrus' puzzles and walking closer to him when facing him, again it's not like he forces you to do anything, but if you keep killing and exhausting the monster count, his influence grows stronger.
+Mysterious Man For me it was hitting Toriel so hard it caused the music to stop and made her say she wasn't keeping me safe from the world, she was keeping the world safe from me all along.
I felt the exact same, then mad dummy came along, I swear, he was harder than undyne, undyne I just needed to back track a little for items, mad dummy, he was frickin impossible.
I just realized. Undyne says several times throughout her phone calls that she's bad at memorizing speeches, and I think she even says she's bad at speeches in general. Yet right there at the start she gives one of the best ones I've ever heard.
one of the most disturbing details of this fight is the fact that we deal over 20,000 damage to undyne on our first strike. while that's messed up in itself, she just got in the way. all that damage was intended for monster kid.
Looking back on this now, it sounds like Alphys is the one that screwed up. Undyne warned her that if anything were to happen, to contact Asgore and he would absorb the souls. However, this never happens, heck you get all the way to the Judgement Hall and kill Sans and Asgore isn't even ready to fight you.
@@EpicDestr0yer I would agree with you if it wasn't for the fact that Asgore didn't seem ready for the human to approach at all. He had his guard down completely.
+trdl23 You're not rooting for the boss to whoop the protagonist. That would mean that you're rooting for Chara to beat Undyne, since in a Genocide run, Undyne is the true protagonist more so than anyone else, and that character you're playing as is truly the boss.
supermariozelda Hate to get semantic, but "protagonist" usually refers to the main focus of a story or game -- in this case, the player character. Protagonist/antagonist is totally separate from good or evil, though in most cases protagonists are on the "good" side. Definitely not the case here though! Go Undyne!
+trdl23 Since the game is based on your definition. You're rooting for yourself to be killed over and over again by Undyne. Since you mainly control the character.
trdl23 You. Play. As. Chara. You. Choose. The. Fate You. Are. Them. So when you are saying you're rooting Undyne. If you played Genocide Route, you're rooting for your own death.
monsters are like 1000 times weaker than humans. Yes, One of the (probably) weakest humans rks One of the strongest Monsters. (my Theory) i think that there have been monsters 100x stronger than undyne, but they maybe got all killed in the war.
+Dheeman Ghoshal No, didn't you pay attention during the game? It says that to equal the power of a single human soul would require the soul of every monster in the underground. Monsters are CANONICALLY weaker than a human child in this game. And that's the point, because it's supposed to be a deconstruction of RPGs where you go around slaughtering legions of monsters on the altar of EXP and loot.
Tiggurix A child with the power to save and load get stronger literally by killing and receive less damage by killing their kind by taking magic dust from their bodies makes the MONSTERS weak. You're a good troll 8/10-ign.Those encrypting skills must really help huh
Playing as an unstoppable villain was made so perfectly in this game. You can nearly wipe out everything in one or two hits by the time you reach Undyne, and yet she so resilient, strong and even manages to beat you. Why? Why is it that she is so much more powerful than you? Because she's the hero. She's the character you'd normally play as, in hopes of defeating this ultimate evil threatening to murder all beings in your world. The hero wins, as we see so many times, because they fight for something bigger than their own survival. This is why when you beat Undyne, everything is just s simple one shot kill, you already beat the hero, and nothing else stands in your way.. Except Sans, but you know.. Sans is cheating, he's meant to beat you untill you quit..
Due to not wanting to be a COMPLETE asshole, I didn't mutilate the snowman, and went in using only CRAB APPLES (I was saving the pie for Sans). I found that perhaps mutilating the Snowman might have been practical for the budding genocidal monster within me.
+Matt Dave What I imagine: *You take part of the snowman. Snowman:AH GOD PLEASE NO *You ignore the pleading of the snowman and take another piece. Snowman:JESUS CHRIST WHY STOP PLEASE
When you realize Undyne's death was completely pointless since she prevented absolutely nothing and all the people she bought time to evacuate were killed either by Flowey or Chara.
She was grinning only because her natural DETERMINATION made her, it literally filled her to the brim with Determination, and she was wholeheartedly determined to stop you at all costs. Undyne in her Determined state probably could suplex Mt. Ebott itself. That's pretty fucking heroic to me... plus the whole Heroine deal...
+technolen2 The heroic monster known as "Undyne" was so DETERMINed that they generated enough DETERMINATION to refuse the effects of death, if only for a temporary period of time.
It's just so badass how completely devoted Undyne is. When I had to do this, I did NOT feel good about it. A true hero did emerge. And I struck her down. Man, I suck.
+JoeytheJoeyX3 The fact that she goes down while having faith in a dying dream just hurts all the more. Man, I really SUCK! I hate you game, for making me hate myself.
Never has a game reacted so immersively to a player who does nothing but destroy ^_^ (Except Armoured core for answer but even that doesn't compare to this.)
I celebrated like five days after beating Undyne the Undying... Mostly because it took me two weeks to defeat her. And at this point on I really wanted to kill everyone...
The second most badass battle theme after Sans's. But seriously, Undyne went out like a champ. You weren't the only one capable of determination. Even if you were misguided in the Pacifist Run, in the Genocide one... Undyne, you really were the real hero. You tried hard. I gotta give ya that. You may not have succeeded, but your goal ended up being the most heroic, especially after that line you said about "humans and monsters". By this point, there's pretty much no redeeming qualities to the player-character. I'm sorry you died. But I'm happy that you died going out like a champ. People playing the Genocide route for the first time thought that you'd go out in one hit like everyone else, but you showed them wrong. You showed them your DETERMINATION.
+JoeytheJoeyX3 Yes, you are, in fact, the only one capable of determination. Humans are the only creatures capable of having Determination. Alphys injected it into Undyne using the six human souls. That's why she melts like the mutants you fight that were also injected.
+Alexei Strife Nowhere in the game is it even implied Undyne was injected with Determination, and even if she was, she'd melt after a week or so (maybe even less). Undyne is just the only monster in the underground with natural Determination, which made her the strongest monster in the world. (and resulted in her melting in the end due to Determination OD)
Poopitar Lolski ...Except for the part where she dies the exact same way the amalgamates? ...Except monsters can't have Determination. Did you pay attention to the game, at all?
Alexei Strife The amalgamates melted within weeks (or days), Undyne melted shortly after she "resurrected". She mustered up her own Determination. I don't think monsters CAN'T have Determination, I'd just say they have a very tiny ammount (almost nothing).
Poopitar Lolski Amalgamates die the exact same way she does when you killed them. Why do you think they can have any, when it's specifically said that only Humans have any, and that it's a very important thing they can?
I love that fight and it honestly plays a role in how much I love Undyne as a character, she didn't waited for us to kill everyone to act, she chased us through an entire area and surpassed death to save the world. The fact that she isn't an otherworldly being that shoots lasers, nor a scientific experiment with meta knowledges and (formerly) godly powers, but simpkly an overly determined monster that never gives up and that earned their strengh through perseverance is also very badass. Btw it's nice to come back now and then to watch the fight and read the bonus caption. Thx for reading (if you do still read the comments as said in the captions lol) and have a nice day :DD

Why is Mettaton even there?’
The answer to those questions, I don’t know.
I may try find an answer someday.
The undying fight actually legitimately had me cheering against myself. I've never done that in a video game.
I literally shouted "GET 'EM UNDYNE"
That was a real bruh moment. Well, there are 5-6 alternate realities where she won and only 1 where I beat her, so I guess she still got me.
I really love how in the Neutral/Pacifist Route it shows undyne a villain and in genocide it makes her look like a true hero she even would protect the humans from you what a "Battle Against a True Hero"
makes it seem like a villain but in the genocide to realize why she was a "villain" she already knew the danger a human could cause if not stopped

You know... As horrible as the Genocide Run is, it truly shows some of the characters in their finest hour, especially the Boss Monsters :
- Papyrus refusing to fight you because he will never stop believing in you, even if you kill him.

Stupid asgore at least Flowey (maybe) would absorb them
After doing this fight myself for myself, I have more respect for people who do genocide runs.
I was about the same as you and beat her yesterday and yes i know the comment is old but still congratz
It's not too hard, but not too easy either, just enough for it to be a challenge that will give you satisfaction when you finally beat it, but at the same time you'll feel kinda bad cause you're still kinda rooting for the good guys, and you just spent hours trying to kill them
@@MrTmb64 yea u know not all of us are well trained in rhythm games

***** Basically, if either one cared enough there's a pretty miniscule chance they'd outdo Undyne.
Toriel and Asgore would most likely be more dangerous than Undyne, but Undyne would live longer, and deal more damage. (Highest stats besides Asriel) So who is stronger depends on what definition of "strength" you're using. (Undyne also has the advantage of Determination)
+Regal Killager Undyne the Undyings stats are 99 atk and 99 def. So she is stronger than toriel or asgore.
I feel giddy killing everyone-
And no, I'm not just some edgy 12 year old- I'm just tired of the same jokes and happy endings.
Honestly, I love how Flowey treats you. Doing all of the extra puzzles for you, treating you like a friend, and just straight up helping you.
Its great
Can't get past her either. Closest I've gotten is about two thirds through. Tried so many times I've memorized her attack patterns by the music.

This is what happens when a monster is filled with Determination. They become powerful, but they cannot sustain it. Undyne, unlike any of the other monsters you slaughter, does not scatter into dust. She MELTS. Just like the Amalgamations in the True Lab did when they were injected with Determination.
maybe undyne was one of the experiments that actually was a success?

I for one am not gonna stand by and watch, as _ wipes out billions of innocent lives."
A quote from a certain marvel film you reminded me of.
Just like the Amalgamates...

supermariozelda Hate to get semantic, but "protagonist" usually refers to the main focus of a story or game -- in this case, the player character. Protagonist/antagonist is totally separate from good or evil, though in most cases protagonists are on the "good" side.
Definitely not the case here though! Go Undyne!

Returning to this video after roughly 5 years and reading the bonus commentary, it feels like a greeting from and old friend :')
we have yet to comprehend how much of a hero Undyne is. Even as she died, she grinned.

The heroic monster known as "Undyne" was so DETERMINed that they generated enough DETERMINATION to refuse the effects of death, if only for a temporary period of time.
+JoeytheJoeyX3 Nah i felt proud striking down a worthy foe other than sans.Salut to you undyne
This boss is all about memorization. Once you know the pattern of her attacks this boss is a piece of cake.
same with sans
except the last attack it's still really hard

Never has a game reacted so immersively to a player who does nothing but destroy ^_^
(Except Armoured core for answer but even that doesn't compare to this.)
+Barney Collington Voted just because you know what game that is.
I celebrated like five days after beating Undyne the Undying... Mostly because it took me two weeks to defeat her. And at this point on I really wanted to kill everyone...

You dirty brother killer. How could you kill everyone you knew and (possibly) loved?
Am I the only one being stuck at Undyne's fight for about two days now? ._.
nope
i can't beat her, and i wouldn't xD

I think I'm like the only person who thinks that Undyne the Undying is harder than Sans. Sans took me maybe 20 tries or less. Undyne took me like 50.
Damn.

How u beat Sans with 20 tries and stuck in Undayne? What kind of monster you are?

I also believe undyne is harder :|
My tries on Sans and Undyne:
Sans: 106 tries
Undyne: 106 tries

For some reason her saying "This world will live on" means that she doesn't care about the other humans and that frisk/chara are the evilest human ever.
And it makes me think that instead of trying to save the whole underground she was trying to save humans and monsters.
She literally says that if she lets you through, you'll kill all the monsters as well as all the humans.
i mean, she says she's fighting for "everyone in the world, " which includes humans.
Its obvious she is. She literally says so before the fight
This may well be the most well executed battle in all of gaming. Other entries to that title, I am all ears for.
