A fan game that is thematically correct...? No sans the badass god insert...? No obligatory Gaster Blasters...? No gimmicks from other SOULs to overwhelm the player...? No final attack that is basically UT's battle system thrown in a blender...? We need more fan games like this one. So far, this is the best one I've seen.
tbf even the name "gaster blaster" can be considered fanon. Like, not once have i heard the blasters in the sans fight being referred to as gaster blasters at all in-game.
I really like how this 'impossible difficulty' fight remake not only made great use of its own engine, resulting in smoother graphics and non-linear attacks, but I also respect how this fight didn't go down the route that most other custom fights do in order to boost their difficulty, that being to inexplicably have the character use Gaster Blasters & dodge every attack until the end of the fight, and although Undyne does dodge & use a comparable instantaneous beam attack of her own, it makes more sense to me, as she swings her spear to cause those attacks & only manages to dodge occasionally, which I find better than simply gutting the character in question, stuffing Sans into their boneless corpse, then slapping on a fancy gimmick that's only tangentially related to the seven colors of Soul, either through colored attacks or changing the Soul's properties along with its color.
Ikr. They kept Undyne “Undyne”. It wasn’t overdone. I agree when you said most others were uncreative. They were like spaghetti with 60 pounds of Parmesan on it, so it was pretty much just parm.
I mean that is literally what she is doing is the neutral run where she is killed and the whole undying from is after you killed her. So yeah fully in her to just go how cute you think killing me is enough to stop me(Determination goes lol)

With this fight, it’s not the actual attacks that kill you. Most are built on existing patterns and the arrow barrage is half fear factor. Practice will be hard but still really achievable. I think the real ‘impossible’ part is phase length. The real bane of the mod. It’s one thing to master dodging, but there is a sense of attrition having to hold out double the duration waiting for her attack to end. Edit: I commented this before I reached the point where reverse arrows are introduced. I retract my statement(s).
You are still correct though, it's a battle of endurance. Reverse arrows are still giving you a certain circle of space, just enough distance to spin your shields from any position towards them.
Other than length, making it any harder would be ironically, difficult. It would become not fun if done improperly but would be amazing to see. Maybe get someone from touhou to assist.
i love the attacks with the huge whirlwinding barrage of spears where only a few even have a chance of hitting the player, it really sells the idea that undyne is throwing absolutely everything she's got into this fight there's not much i can say about this that hasn't already been said but i really do love it, it's nice to see an 'impossible' mod or remake that's just a brutally difficult test of reflexes and precision without relying entirely on unfair trial-and-error attack spamming and general artless bullshit. my only critique would be that the yellow and green arrows are close enough in colour that it's hard to differentiate between them when so many are coming at once; i think a shade of green closer to the soul when it's locked in place would make it easier to tell the difference. other than that though it's a really good looking fight! i'm not in the mood for a frustratingly hard challenge at the moment but next time i am i'll have to keep this in mind >:O

People freak out when they see their health drained out so quickly and think they need to do more than they really do, so just keymash to try to avoid attacks when really you just gotta move one way or another slightly with _timing,_ not panicked random jumbling. It's the exact opposite of the sans fight and it's great! It's not a bullet hell and instead your often on defense, keeping track of dozens of projectiles. The occasional dodge is great, and it really works well. This would be perfect for hardmode! (if it released)
I think they're just using a controller somehow which is why it looks so smooth. They're not so hard to do when you play it, it's just the reverse of an already-existing pattern. Takes a lot of practice though.
The fact that you don't have an unlimited time to decide what you're gonna do in the menu is quite realistic, an ennemy won't let you have your turn if they see that they can attack you before
Well Undyne, is also royally pissed you killed Papyrus, and the guards in Snowdin, but hurting Monster Kid, is probably what really set her off enough to go Undying.
It's what I imagine her fights to be. A mass of spears, so numerous that you can't possibly avoid all of them. Only some are aimed directly at you, the rest box you in. When she said you needed to face danger head on, to beat her she wasn't kidding.
I know in the original game the reason why most of the bosses were one hit was for story purposes, but I really wish more of the bosses could've beat the piss outta you in genocide.

I kinda like it the way it is to be honest, i mean we get to see just why monsters feared and hated humans so damn much, because of what humans are capable of doing to monsters if they want to. I mean one single child wiped out most of monsterkind. One. Single. Child. Yes frisk had the unfair advantage of saving and loading, but given the amount of monsters that died from a single hit TO A CHILD, it kinda makes you wonder what would happen if, instead of frisk, you had a fully armed and trained soldier. Or at least just an adult with some fighting experience. At that point I feel like even undyne and sans are done for.

At the beginning of the fight I was just thinking “is the beam of light out of her eye different now” and then she just dodged the attack. And this was when I realised how bad this was really going to be.
Honestly this makes her final battle more epic and more stronger for story reasons, makes her really look like a true hero who fought with all of her might until the very end.
The fact that at a certain point in the fight you have only 3 secs to choose your action makes this even more intense, and feels like someone else is assisting undyne in the battle

undyne was fine just the fact that one sans attack where two bones rapidly come from both sides and theres a tiny gap you have to hop through that attack is impossible in docked mode because of slight lag thats right not the handheld mode the docked mode dont believe me try it your self the attack is maybe possible to dodge on docked but its easier on handheld
I really like the new hd sprites and the music remix. I also like the addition of undyne having a chance to dodge, aswell as a few new attacks! Overall its a great battle!
The duble shield thing with you having to coordinate each shield for it's own color plus attacks that need both, AND the fact that it's red and blue seems like this would be a perfect candidate for a 2nd secret boss fight in the switch version. Like, a boss fight you can get by doing some specific imputs somewhere to get this harder Undyne the undying in the genocide route.
Like the original fight didn’t give you a difficult time lol, but i will say i wish Undyne, actually dodged in the fight, and Mettaton Neo, was an actual fight instead of just being a One Punch Man, moment where Sataima, gets mad he one shots his opponent.
Undyne is the one supposed to face an impossible battle, not you. Toby made the difficulty just right. Imagine casual players having to go through this.
this is honestly so cool. its so much like the final level of a rhythm game because of its difficulty and how you have to hit the correct colored arrows and dodged from multiple new sides
I love the higher resolution sprites, the music remix, and the higher FPS, it makes it feel so smooth compared to how Undertale is capped at what I believe is 30 FPS.
It would be really nice if before that she had dialog where the music stops and when she says something about determination it would begin again Like with alphys neo

Asgore in neutral was pretty much the same, even if in his case its in order for him not to get attached and even more guilty about killing another child, you dont have anything to say against someone that you will either kill or will kill you. Hell Sans was an exception in Genocide because he knew it wasnt a fight to the death as you litteraly manipulate time to live on but a fight to crush your motivation to keep going hence why he talked ALOT.

A slightly less intense version of this would've been awesome, I always felt like her fight while slightly difficult didn't feel like a "Battle Against A True Hero" y'know? But this definitely does especially the occasional dodges make the vibe of the fight so much more different

Thanks, I spent a lot of time trying to balance all the attacks, so I'm glad that that worked out. Also, yes, that turn was skipped, in the impossible difficulty there's a time limit for the player turn, which is shown in the top right corner of the screen
@@hatsukegero all of them are easy, i died on jevil twice and jow i beat him consistently and spamton neo is really easy, i died to him once. Snowgrave spamton is kinda hard but still

I think my favorite attack is the one with like fans of spears, as it reminds me of asgore's similar fan attacks, and thematically she studied under him so makes sense she'd use that technique. Great... mod? thing, great thing
Eh, technically undyne is harder than sans, given that sans is guaranteed to do the exact same moves everytime unless you heal, then he'll usually do a pretty easy attack as filler. He even warns you when a long attack is coming after a fight, giving you the opportunity to heal fully. Undyne, on the other hand, is mostly randomized. I do kinda wish the spear blocking parts were randomized but sadly, they're not.
@@lilnutt5580 Hit the nail on the head here. Used to play a copy of the Sans fight from the chrome web store of all things. Got so good at it that three years later, when I actually bought the game and fought sans for real, it only took me three tries... as opposed to the over twenty attempts I needed to beat Undyne. Sans is all about memorizing the patterns and then adapting to the speed. Undyne needs a lot more twitch reactions by comparison since there's more randomness to the fight that you can't just autopilot through.

I get it’s more balanced if he isn’t as randomized as his attacks are really hard for a beginner, but like I said, a final boss shouldn’t be easy.

It really isn’t too difficult, you should see the 100+ level requirement levels of dungeon quest they have like millions of hp and most of they’re attacks are undodgeable, they do a lot of damage too it’s usually more damage than new players to the map do. So basically, if you’re new to the map, either get the healer to heal you, or die on the second attack. Also, the ones I’m talking about aren’t even minibosses in that map

@Varg Is A Hole I played this game with Joycons that I had since 2018 and had no issues at all.
undyne was fine just the fact that one sans attack where two bones rapidly come from both sides and theres a tiny gap you have to hop through that attack is impossible in docked mode because of slight lag thats right not the handheld mode the docked mode dont believe me try it your self the attack is maybe possible to dodge on docked but its easier on handheld
I really like the new hd sprites and the music remix. I also like the addition of undyne having a chance to dodge, aswell as a few new attacks! Overall its a great battle!
The duble shield thing with you having to coordinate each shield for it's own color plus attacks that need both, AND the fact that it's red and blue seems like this would be a perfect candidate for a 2nd secret boss fight in the switch version. Like, a boss fight you can get by doing some specific imputs somewhere to get this harder Undyne the undying in the genocide route.
Honestly, this is the fight I expected when I did the genocide route.

Like the original fight didn’t give you a difficult time lol, but i will say i wish Undyne, actually dodged in the fight, and Mettaton Neo, was an actual fight instead of just being a One Punch Man, moment where Sataima, gets mad he one shots his opponent.
Undyne is the one supposed to face an impossible battle, not you. Toby made the difficulty just right. Imagine casual players having to go through this.

this is honestly so cool. its so much like the final level of a rhythm game because of its difficulty and how you have to hit the correct colored arrows and dodged from multiple new sides
I love the higher resolution sprites, the music remix, and the higher FPS, it makes it feel so smooth compared to how Undertale is capped at what I believe is 30 FPS.

Asgore in neutral was pretty much the same, even if in his case its in order for him not to get attached and even more guilty about killing another child, you dont have anything to say against someone that you will either kill or will kill you.
Hell Sans was an exception in Genocide because he knew it wasnt a fight to the death as you litteraly manipulate time to live on but a fight to crush your motivation to keep going hence why he talked ALOT.

A slightly less intense version of this would've been awesome, I always felt like her fight while slightly difficult didn't feel like a "Battle Against A True Hero" y'know? But this definitely does especially the occasional dodges make the vibe of the fight so much more different

Thanks, I spent a lot of time trying to balance all the attacks, so I'm glad that that worked out. Also, yes, that turn was skipped, in the impossible difficulty there's a time limit for the player turn, which is shown in the top right corner of the screen

Undyne felt this difficult when I first faced her. And yes, I think Sans is brokenly difficult, but Undyne actually forced me to reset, twice.
Eh, technically undyne is harder than sans, given that sans is guaranteed to do the exact same moves everytime unless you heal, then he'll usually do a pretty easy attack as filler. He even warns you when a long attack is coming after a fight, giving you the opportunity to heal fully. Undyne, on the other hand, is mostly randomized. I do kinda wish the spear blocking parts were randomized but sadly, they're not.

Got so good at it that three years later, when I actually bought the game and fought sans for real, it only took me three tries... as opposed to the over twenty attempts I needed to beat Undyne.
Sans is all about memorizing the patterns and then adapting to the speed. Undyne needs a lot more twitch reactions by comparison since there's more randomness to the fight that you can't just autopilot through.
When you realize the best heal item you can buy is in snowdine and genocide prevents backtracking
@@lukeskylicker that’s why I feel like as a final boss in genocide, Sans should have been more randomized cause it just seems boring that you face the same attacks in order. I get it’s more balanced if he isn’t as randomized as his attacks are really hard for a beginner, but like I said, a final boss shouldn’t be easy.

It really isn’t too difficult, you should see the 100+ level requirement levels of dungeon quest they have like millions of hp and most of they’re attacks are undodgeable, they do a lot of damage too it’s usually more damage than new players to the map do. So basically, if you’re new to the map, either get the healer to heal you, or die on the second attack. Also, the ones I’m talking about aren’t even minibosses in that map
