Hey Clint, thanks man! Also, I like to think of WatchArtSci as a place where the subscribers can also find new special watches for the rest of us! Take care, Bill
Pretty amazing watch Bill. I think this was their first in-house movement and it has a great pedigree. This was entered into the GPHG as well!! I wish I could pull off 45 mm.
HI Bill , love the channel. Was Andreas Strehler only involved with the development, not the build and finish of the movement? If so, how good is the build and finish by Maurice Lacroix?
Good question Peter. I'm not sure what level of involved or the exact role played by AS. However, Maurice Lacroix has excellent cases and finishing. Take care, Bill
Great video Bill. What a great find! I was always hesitant about anything over 42mm. A few weeks ago I bought a Reservoir “Tiefenmesser” (Depth Gauge) which is 43mm. The watch fits like a glove. Although I really like the idea of having a watch with such a great watchmaker developing the movement, I fear that 45mm might be stretching it. Best regards, Brian
Wise of you Brian-a watch that looks like a frisbee on your wrist that you don't like wearing is a waste of money. (Opposite is true as well ... you don't want a watch that looks like the band is supporting a button.😉). Reservoir has truly interesting watches! Take care, Bill
I have a 42mm watch that wears small, Bruce, and a 40mm one that wears big. If you feel comfortable with a size it's the right size. I once had an Audemars Piguet that just didn't feel right because it was so small. Goes both ways. Take care, Bill
Perhaps I have missed the point. Movement based on Venus 175...what about Seagull ST-1901. Seagull have the original tooling for the 175. Is the ML106 a Venus 175 or just looks like it?
😅 Great point Robert! I had forgotten about the use of the Venus 175 by Seagull. To me, it was a very strange request from ML to Andreas Strehler for a movement that "looks like" another movement. However, that's what ML did. Anyone looking at the 175 and ML 106 will most likely be drawn to the trigonal bridge, but on closer examination, will see the many differences between the two. Take care, Bill
Another good episode 👍 I have a question. Are F.P. Journe movements made of solid gold or gold-plated? What about Lang & Heyne Frederick II movement, solid gold or gold-plated? Thanks, Bill.
I *think* that the Journe movement (plates and bridges) are made of rose gold, but the L&H bridge is made of gold-plated brass. But the gear wheels and anchor of the L&H are made of gold
@@eugenejohnson7755 yeah. I feel like they do need to have new products to get a sense of what direction they’re taking and what design language they intend to keep from Marco’s designs.
@@m.p.maxplanation1726 Several good watch companies have inexpensive (and very accurate) quartz watches. Just on the purely mech mechanical side, Maurice Lacroix has many with ETA-based movements and a few of their own. However, their watches are very well-built and some other dial complications (e.g., retrogrades) are very interesting.
This why I’m subscribed, you’re helping us get the absolute most bang for our buck !!!!

For about $10.000 dollars you can get the squelette chronograph , it’s like wearing a Roger Dubuis, without breaking the bank! I love it!
Hey O Bud, for skeletonized dial fans, you are right. Take care, Bill

No worries Mark... I have problems with any chronograph! Actually, though, even pretty big at 45mm, the dial is not cluttered. Take care, Bill
I agree on the design and dial layout. Very clean. If my wrist could handle this, then I would be hunting for one.
I've learned so much about watches b'coz of you Bill, thanks! 😊
Great to hear Frampton! Take care, Bill

Great one !!! Not a Chrono fan either. Two micro disks are fine though on this.
Nice video mate 🥃
Hey Tim, thanks man! Take care, Bill
Great Video Bill , 45mm may not be for everyone but i like this watch/movement/price combo thanks

Watch is a bit bigger than I like, but extraordinary movement at this price.
Yes, it is a big boy Javi! 45mm. With the pushers and crown, it may be too big for some. Take care, Bill

@@eugenejohnson7755 I do. Looking forward to whatever new stuff they have coming

The Maurice Masterpiece watches are good. The rest is not that great.
Max, I wouldn't agree that the rest are not that great as watches. They just don't make most of their movements, though. Take care, Bill
@@watchartsci I think it is bad for the prestige, that they try to sell a lot of cheap quartz watches... and do brutal discounts.

I think the retrograde is a masterpiece too.
