Calamity Jane was nicknamed as such because she was so useful, so good, in a calamity or emergency (or pandemic, I guess). She could be relied upon to be helpful. However, in times when she wasn't particularly needed, she would revert to the sauce.
LMAO Emily’s story about the guy throwing his colostomy bag at a cop 😂 (hilarity starts at 12:50, plus I do work at a hospital so this is totally appropriate for work lol). She is a treasure and the main reason why I watch Mythical at all ❤. What a gem. More Emily!!
I want her to visit the Try Guys and be in the kitchen for Phoning It In or Without a Recipe. I’m just imagining her and Keith yelling past each other as the kitchen devolves into chaos.
Josh has that frail I.T worker face and a gym trainer body - he uses his nerd head to come up with recipes and fun facts and his super hero body to punch garlic
You'd be surprised - an office I worked in during the beforetimes had a couple of hella jacked software engineers. They'd literally go hit up the gym on their lunch breaks.
As someone who regularly partakes in nut fry’s after brandings, oysters and cocktail sauce is one of my favorite things. Rocky Mountain oysters, the original sack lunch.
As someone with relatives from Deadwood, make a pasty. It's traditionally British but was super popular in Deadwood because it was a handheld food easy to take to the mines and eat on the go.
I grew up in the Great Plains and "nut fry"s were a common fundraiser for volunteer fire departments and company parties for welding/drilling companies.
I'm amazed Emily has been at Mythical this long and never eaten testicles before, I would've thought that was a part of initiation, or at least the first quarterly review
When my mom worked in restaurants in the 50s they put egg shells in the coffee grounds to soften the water, not to filter out particulates. It makes coffee taste better.
So to explain for Emily why some people would get TB and others wouldn’t particularly while tending to those who did: 1) required exposure for respiratory TB infection is 10 minutes within 5m longer if you are further away as the TB bacteria essentially also settles on surfaces (think more like a superfine dust rather than a wet spray like with the cold or flu) so even being in the area sans patient for that length of time without a respirator could cause an exposure risk. 2) latent TB is a thing you can be infected and not have symptoms which was likely for most of the nurses in the sanatoriums, especially if their latent TB was abdominal TB (which was super common thanks to unsafe food practices), also latent TB will not manifest unless something changes like a weakening immune system. 3) some people are also just carriers (so they will not develop symptoms) they will just spread the disease around like Typhoid Mary, or my dad in the case of Smallpox (no he never had it but he was born while they were still immunizing for it and they gave him 5 doses and none of them took (site should have scarred my mom has one too) and that’s how they figured out my dad could be a carrier in the case of an outbreak. 4) surprise! Most healthcare workers are actually colonized by many of the infections we treat (it’s by where I live it’s recommended by the union and our governing bodies to refuse swabbing (for infections not for COVID) for Antibiotic Resistant Organisms (ARO’s) because we’re likely colonized for MRSA, VRE, ESBL, and everyone has C.Diff anyways it’s just when it doesn’t have good flora to keep it in check that it’s a problem. So in all likelihood the staff at the sanatoriums had TB too.
TB is very contagious. Back in the old days they called it consumption. They had whole hospitals just for consumption patients. Even today it happens a lot, especially in crowded low income areas and I know at least in Tennessee if a patient is noncompliant with their treatment, they can & will get a court order to keep them in a medical facility, usually a nursing home or rehab facility under guard until they have completed their treatment which is usually lengthy. At least I know it was still happening 10-12 years ago and I’m assuming it’s still in affect
Tuberculosis has a long latent period, often 10 years or more! So those people in the movies probably caught TB, but the movie ends before we see them die of it. (but you are right, it is contagious! just takes a long time to develop symptoms)
The fact that Josh thinks we just have free roaming cattle in TN tells me that we need to take him to waffle house and dollywood for a hilariously fun food adventure
Episode Idea: A video on food safety and Emily can dress up and people who were known to cause illness in food like typhoid Mary. Josh can explain safe food handling and how to prevent food borne illnesses.
Also, Emily, you are correct, tuberculosis is definitely contagious 😂. Typically TB patients in the hospital will be on airborne precautions, which means the patient is put in a separate room with special ventilation if available, and people going in/out should wear N95 masks at minimum. No biggie!😅
The streets of Deadwood, SD still have some of the same BUT it's MOSTLY casinos. Lol But some of them have good restaurant options in them. I live an hour away from Deadwood. 😊😊

It was nice of Rhett to let Emily borrow his clothes for this episodes wardrobe
STOP.
Ha!
Well it did corrupt her during the episode, why else would she put beans on pie.
I believe it is communal
DON'T YOU DARE TALK SMACK ABOUT HER!.... I'LL JUMP THROUGH THE INTERNETS AND MAKE YOU SAY...WTF!?!?!?
I wish Josh and Emily would do an episode that they had to go forage their own ingredients. It would be hilarious to see them in the wild.
They did go to a pumpkin patch once iirc, but for sure we do need to see them in the wild
But how will they plug the Hello Fresh sponsor then lol
@@pdoyled I think he stole an ostrich egg from an aggressive mother once too lol

I laughed out loud so hard at that point that my husband turned to look at me. I had to explain everything since he doesn't watch Mythical Kitchen.
Yes!
Like could u imagine🤣
1) Emily doing imposter chef. 2) Emily cooking the hello fresh box would be interesting.
thatd be an amazing honest ad
Either one would be so fun ... Emily is hilarious and does not seem to know how to cook.

Yes TB is VERY CONTAGIOUS
Renowned for it, in fact!
The collective gasp of horror when they thought about having a period back then 😂😂😂
Get John Green on this show to tell you all about tuberculosis! It works becasue he also once made a silly cookbook for charity.

Emily's reaction to Josh not knowing who Tom Waits is was the proper reaction 😂
Agreed! Josh you gotta check out Tom waits man!
It's quite literally the only reasonable reaction one should have.
... who's tom waits 😬😂
I understand he’s a singer, but I don’t know anything by him. 🤷🏻♂️
Ya know, I often watch these and have no clue what the final food result is but the journey with Josh & Emily is always an enjoyable experience.

People still put cheese on apple pie today. It's not my favorite with a sweet pie, but a good cheddar with just a regular apple is pretty delicious.
