    Hi Michelle, hope you are feeling better. This looked so much fun, as well as you making good progress with your project. I'll be watching the Superbowl next weekend, cross stitching in hand! Thanks for such a great, fun video, which is making me smile while I recover from a pesky virus! 🤗 🧶🧵🪡

      Yes I too hope to get some good stitching in during the SB although I say that every single year and then get too engrossed and tired to get much done! Stupid timezones...
      Feeling much better now, thanks, it's just occasional bad days when I over-exert but they're getting fewer and further between 🤞

    I always love your vlogs; THANK YOU again for another great one!😊 It’s really helpful, comforting, and inspiring to watch you persevere through tricky issues. I’ve been getting disheartened working on my larger, more involved projects because I tend to have this idea that nobody else goes through these trials and tribulations-i.e., two steps forward and one step back, and it’s also just really great to see how others work on bigger projects. The one you chose is beautiful, and awesome progress-yay, you!

    • @TheGiddyStitcher
      @TheGiddyStitcher  9 місяців тому +2

      Oh honestly, two steps forward and one back might as well be my middle name. Especially during something like this where I'm chatting online, talking to Dave, watching tv and occasionally drinking Baileys all at the same time! As long as it's still fun, it's all good imo.

    My two take aways are I need to remember to get a new stitching frame thingy (mine is dodgy but at least it was expensive) and I need to do Discworld Stitching.

    Good to see another fun, whacky episode from you. I live on the border of Illinois (Chicago Bears country) and Wisconsin (Green Bay Packers country) and very curious to know: How did you become a Packers fan or a fancier of American football? I trust you have fully recovered since filming this video. Take care.

      So without any kind of pre-existing location bias for picking a team, you can go with whatever criteria you want. I watched a few games, looked at team names, looked at their colours and mascots. Considered the Bengals first, strongly considered the Vikings because I love purple (the horror!), but ultimately settled on the Packers because I liked their colours best and their name was silly! That's literally it, I knew nothing else about them or Wisconsin at all. As an enthusiastic consumer of cheese I have been very happy with my choice though :D

    Yay!
    One day I would ❤ to learn how to stitch without rotating the aida each time. How does one learn how to just know where to stick the needle in from the back?

    • @TheGiddyStitcher
      @TheGiddyStitcher  9 місяців тому +1

      Honestly the boring (and somewhat belated, sorry about that!) answer to this is just: practise.
      I used to really struggle with that part too and you just get a feel for it over time. Some people use a backlight to make things a little easier on darker fabrics but I didn't try that as a beginner so can't comment on whether it also improves things with light fabrics, could be worth a go if it's a real problem though!

    • @MichaelcrOtter
      @MichaelcrOtter 9 місяців тому

      @@TheGiddyStitcher this is probably a stupid question but do you keep a finger in the back to track where the needle comes out so you know approximately where it needs to go, or do you just develop a 6th sense of where to stab?

    Oh my! I must have missed that weekend around the chaos since the start of the year. I'm...not exactly sure I can do 24 hours of stitching in a single weekend. I hate being an adult at times like these. Maybe I can go for 12 hours. That would be fun. Wonder how far would that get me.
    The patterns I'm working on now on paper and they are similar to those from Lyndisfarne. I actually messaged them about pdfs another some time ago because postage to my country from a "third country" a.k.a the UK (Thanks, David & co.) is horribly unreliable and expensive. They were helpful about it but I didn't end up buying it sadly.
    Also I hope you're feeling better now. I sincerely apologize about saying that thing earlier, just as you contracted the bug. It was really inconsiderate of me.

    • @TheGiddyStitcher
      @TheGiddyStitcher  9 місяців тому

      I usually can't do the full 24 hours tbh but it coinciding with the Packers game was like fate, worked out really well! I'm sure you'll hear about it plenty in the tun-up to the next one so maybe you can join with us for 12 hours or whatever works, we're no sticklers for the rules :D
      (also I'm honestly not sure what you're worried about having said but whatever it was, clearly it's not an issue so please don't worry about it!)

      The stand is a fancy one I just got for Christmas! It's called a Lowery workstand and I'll hopefully do a proper review video of it soon, technically I wasn't using it right in this video but whatever works, works 😉
      The little owl magnets you can generally find just by searching for "magnetic cable ties" on Amazon or similar. They're great for rolling up extra fabric and holding your needle at the same time, very useful little things to have around!

    I‘ve recently started playing LOTRO again and got my fella into it, he‘s never played it. Still had my login from when it first came out…. 17 years ago?😅
    Got loads of special gifts as a long time player, yay. Thing is tho, I play as a true Hobbit and the farthest I dare travel is Bree, other than that I‘m happy to just tinker about in the Shire and craft, while my better half is out East having an adventure 😂

    • @TheGiddyStitcher
      @TheGiddyStitcher  9 місяців тому

      Haha, very similar here tbh I've played since...2011 I think? And my highest level isn't even 50 because all I want to do is farm and roleplay selling dyes in Bree and go to elvish dance parties and hang out smoking pipe-weed on the roof of my hobbit house 😂
      Tried to get Dave to play it a couple years ago but I think it was a bit too old and janky for him, alas.

      It's from Lyndisfarne who are (as far as I know) the only place actually properly licensed to make Discworld patterns. Unfortunately like I said in the video, all paper-based. They do have a website as well but the images on their eBay shop are a bit better for whatever reason, Errol is here but they have lots of others! www.ebay.com/itm/122196806696

    I'm new to x stitch and I am loving your channel. As with all new hobbies, I am obsessed and overdoing it. Can I ask you some tips and tricks to avoid aches and pains and repetitive strain and eye strain? Apologies if this is an obvious question.

    • @TheGiddyStitcher
      @TheGiddyStitcher  9 місяців тому +1

      Haha, yes that is definitely a relatable description of the new hobby honeymoon period! And this is a good thing to be thinking about early tbh. For me because I do so many different crafts I'm often changing sitting position, doing different types of movements with my hands depending on the craft etc, but if you're just stitching it can get repetitive fast. So looking up some basic hand and wrist stretches and getting into a rhythm of regular breaks can really help. I sometimes use a pomodoro timer which is basically 25 minutes of an activity, then timer goes off and you have a 5 minute break to get up, move around, get a cup of tea.
      Of course, NOT spending 24 hours curled up stitching on the couch in a short space of time is also a good tip 🙈
      In terms of protecting your eyesight, good lighting is essential. Flexible necklights are really popular (they're all over Amazon) but depending on your setup you can look into ones that clamp onto a shelf or your stitching frame. A lot of people also swear by magnifying glasses as well (wearable ones or ones you clip onto a frame etc) especially as you start working on higher count fabrics.
      Hope something in all of that is helpful!

      Pattern Keeper! It's a real gamechanger if you're working from a compatible PDF pattern, in this case I had to import the paper one so it wasn't quite as good although still easier (for me) than working from paper.
