Fun reaction. Just wanted to offer the view that this film helped people understand the mental stress cops went through, kind of the way Rambo helped shine a light on the mental health of veterans (not just Vietnam veterans, though he was a soldier in Vietnam). I'd also like to offer the idea that mental health wasn't ignored or fluffed off in the 80s and 90s. It's just that people didn't blast their personal problems all over like they do now. The captain shrugged off the shrink because he's trying to protect Riggs, not because he doesn't believe her. There used to be hospitals for people with mental problems to go. But, I'm told that Regan changed some of the policies that ended up closing many of these facilities and that was the beginning of the mentally ill joining addicts in being homeless on the streets. I've admittedly not researched this. This is what someone who was around at the time told me. Looking forward to the other movies in this series
This movie had better art and music direction than most people give it credit for. In almost every scene at the start of the film, their costumes are opposites in color and tone, but still go together. Each one has a specific instrument (sax, guitar). It’s pretty committed to the opposites-that-mesh thing.
Younger generations seem to be confused on what a mullet is. Billy Ray Cirus in “Achy Vreaky Heart” had a mullet. Bono at Live Aid had a mullet. Mel Gibson doesn’t have a mullet. Take it from someone who grew up in the 80s. 👍😁😁
I always love when reactionists see older movies and say "it has all the tropes, but done well!" instead of "this is what started most of the tropes!" LOL
The Lethal Weapon series is so good, I hope you keep watching them. Usually with a series like this, when you hit 4 movies it's just a bad cash grab at that point, but they're all so well done. Danny Glover and Mel Gibson are so believable as friends and partners, they're so good together.
Note: when Glover said "ow" after the suicide jump, it was because the hammer hit his thumb. Brooks actually pulled the trigger with the gun to his head
The 80s and early 90s were definitely the era of the 'rogue' cop who did things outside the line to get the job done. This, of course, started with Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry in the 70s as inspiration for the genre. We see it in the Lethal Weapon Series, Die Hard and the action comedy Beverly Hills Cop to name a few.
Dirty Harry as inspiration for the genre. Is that an art imitates life sorta thing? Dunno if we had vigilantes or just dreamed of cleaner streets back then cuz I'm to young to know. From what people say there was porn in the theaters crime sprees on the streets and tons of serial killers back then. From old films set in NYC to current IRL bitching how bad NYC is getting. I wonder if city life in general is not as openly degen anymore? Is it chill during daylight but still more drug related? Do the freaks come out at night, for the pimp and player?
Another great buddy cop movie I fell in love with along with Lethal Weapon is Rush Hour, I recommend you check it out. Again that's Rush Hour with Jackie Chan, that is unless you've seen it already.
@3:00 when Riggs is buying the cocaine from drug dealer. The guy in the red flannel shirt is the real life Dad of Anthony Kiedis from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The overdubbed vocal lines in this series are legendary. The end fight reminds me of an old black and white, Popeye vs Bluto fight with all the chatter. Only thing missing is Olive Oyl saying 'Oh My' in the background.
Robin Williams as Popeye was the best casting ever. If you haven’t seen it, it’s totally worth it. Effects and set are not exactly cutting edge but a wonderful film, 1980s Popeye staring Robin Williams and Shelley Duvall. They couldn’t have cast a more perfect Olive Oyl.
I just noticed this if you watch closely at the suicide jump scene Mel cuffs him and as they are jumping you can see a rubber band attaching them snaps and he reaches for his wrist to cover it. Naturally if you were really cuffed while jumping you could get hurt.
I saw this movie in the theater and it stopped me from thinking about suicide for many years. I just found your channel and have been binging your videos. And subscribed, of course.
It's so great that you were able to get through such a tough time and thanks so much for watching us geek out over movies!

The whole franchise is strong, all four movies. But there are other strong buddy cops franchises too but with less films than Lethal Weapon. Other franchises are _48 Hours_ , _Bad Boys_ , _Rush Hour_ , etc.
Great video guys. I subscribed. Unsure what films you do genre wise. An American Werewolf in London is a good horror film. Die Hard is an excellent action series. And The Golden Child is a good action comedy. Can't forget Beverly Hills Cop.
You've gotta do Leathal Weapon 2, 3, and maybe 4. Also you have to do the spoof of this called Loaded Weapon 1. And, if you haven't done so, you've gotta do these films at some point: Die Hard 1, 2, 3, and maybe 4 (i've not seen 5 but I've heard it's crap), Last Action Hero, and True Lies. Those are all I can think off to suggest right now, which is plenty :P
I've just watched this. I NEED you gentlemen to know: gary busy is the FATHER of one of the young assholes in starship troopers. I know you've covered both ...
It pains me that alot of the young guys havent seen these classics from the 80s. The movies from the 80s are so much more fun than the garbage pumped out nowadays.
"Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" is a VERY slept on Shane Black movie with RDJ & Val Kilmer I recommend "Deep Cover" with Larry Fishburne & Jeff Goldblum as well...Super slept on and NO ONE is reacting to it on YT
Going back to the older uploads now I kinda want them to watch Black Sheep. It's definitely their level of comedy but then with some Deranged Gary sprinkled in for fun.
As many times as I’ve seen this movie I just realized that the kids are saying “bust Dixie” Is that what they’re saying or are they saying “fuck Dixie”?
Hideo Kojima took some influence A LOT from 80's movies. Basically policenauts is these character (well visual look atleast not so much of persona wise) in space scifi setting.
I don’t know if you’re interested in parodies, but maybe you could react to Backstroke of the West? It’s a dub of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith using (highly inaccurate) Chinese bootleg subtitles as a script.
Is the suicide jumper Bruce Campbell? Also did you notice that the shackles were disconnected at the slow-mo shot at the moment of jump and they just held hands? :-D
Not a mullet. 7:33 he was going to fire the gun but Roger stopped the trigger just in the nick of time. 8:07 people have no idea how hard it is to aim for the leg while you're life is threatened.
"Do you really wanna jump!?? Do you wanna?!!" As somebody who's really been there before.. I have to say, I believed MG's portrayal as a suicidal man with nothing to lose. Relax.. I'm okay.. I'm just saying.. people who really do want to do it, and are not wanting to be talked down.. look sorta like that. A bit different.. but.. it's like that. There is no way to describe it.. other than.. that. The difference is, he has something that he can focus that into. Some people join the military, some people become fire fighters. The real reason is the same.
At 6:48 you can see the handcuffs breaking during the suicide jump scene and the actors have to hold hands to make the scene look legit. Wow not a single comma, how about that. 🧐🧐🧐
What if he blew his brains out. Did you not pay attention he hammer came down if Rodger hadn’t grabbed it and his finger block the hammer he would have
Saying some anti-Jews stuff doesn't mean he couldn't be friends with Danny Glover, a least back then. It's really hard to create that kind of chemistry on screen without at least some good vibes in real life.
If you guys like these old cheesy action movies, than might I suggest watching "Death wish" 1 & 2, starring Charles Bronson. He's an everyman by all accounts. but when his family is threatened he steps up into full blown action mode. In the first movie he's basically a 53 year old Rambo.
What should we react to next? Let us know, and thanks so much for watching!!

Speaking of buddy movies, have you seen Midnight Run? Robert DeNiro and Charles Grodin, it's great
Have you guys seen the original "Highlander"?
@@ImokFubar Great movie!!
Most definitely the sequel(s). They are all a blast, each in their own way. And the relationships just get better.
Joe Pesci is a gem in #2

I'm an X'er and luckily completely missed the mullet generation

You two need to watch The Lost Boys and Point Break. Would totally fit your current fascination.
I only remember the fourth movie, with Jet Li as the villain and Joe Pesci in a surprisingly touching role.
Definitely do the sequels!!!!
43k as of this post. I’d say you guys hit your goal. :)
For the record I'll take the salt over the electroshock treatment anyday

I would choose salt because I assume salt would hurt more, but do probably less damage.
As someone that’s put salt in a cut because I was curious, I’d definitely choose salt in a wound over being electrocuted.
For sure. Salt is no more painful than using any standard alcohol based antiseptic.
On that decision: I think I would have rather salt in the wound. Reason: I don't think that is as deadyl as electroshocks can be
You should review the parody of this.
National Lampoon's Loaded weapon.
