CNET what rumors of a new razor ?
Ericsson GF768
A second-hand Nokia 5110, bought at a Verizon store for $30.00 in 2000.
Moto RAZR V3i was my 1st phone
My first phone was the RAZR V3 😂😂😭😭 Bought it in 2005 I was 15 😍😍
Holy shit we're starting to become nostalgic for the 2000s
Fresh off my 10 year high school reunion...
@@cameronlovesevolve you too!? Lol,
VJ Rei damn you went from being in your 20s to 40s in the 21st century already time flies im scared im getting old
I know it's so weird, so is pop-punk gonna make a comeback next? XD
I've been nostalgic for the 2000s since like 2013 :(
Still looks amazing. The Razr was an absolute icon of modern technology.
Your pic and name reminded me how much i loved zune
This was considered a status symbol back when I was in high school. The kids who had it laughed at me for having a Nokia. iPhones weren't a thing yet and Samsung were only used by Korean transfer students. I remember wanting to get the Sony Ericsson Walkman phone because it looked 'cool'. These days you can't tell an iPhone from a VIVO or Xiaomi.
check the xiaomi mi mix 3, or lenovo z5 pro. Innovation is still here.
I have a Nokia 8
@@kenllacer ok? Just look around and u'll see innovation. Phones aren't all the same
Where did he say anything about innovation? He's talking about distinguishing one brand from another which isn't really there these days. Back when these phones we're out you know that was a Motorolla, Sony, Nokia etc just at a glance because they all had their own brand design. These days it's very hard to tell what someone is holding without going up and physically looking at the device.
Op The walkman phone was the coolest! Still miss mine. I didn't really care for the Razr once everyone and their dog started getting one.
@@OG-Jakey ohhh sorry I'm just so used to that argument. But the essential looks completely different and the Lenovo is so sci-fi.
The phones aged surprisingly well, the fact that you can look it today and still admire the aesthetics of it says a lot.
When I worked for T Mobile my manager would throw his against the wall making small holes and indentations in the sheetrock to show how durable it was as customers walked by. It was a great selling point.
Hahhahah I just pictured this in my mind and it's hilarious.
@Abraham Shekelbergstien It actually did.
@Abraham Shekelbergstien now tell me. what would he gain from doing that? and why do you care regardless?
@Abraham Shekelbergstien your name says i agree with you regardless, but my friend did throw his razor at the wall alot when his gf would piss him off on the other end of the line, and he did it a fair amount. just sayin.
The non smartphones were a lot more tuff. I remember throwing my old Nokia against a brick wall, the outer case broke. Battery went flying, but when I put it back it still worked.
The Delorean of phones. Great reception and build quality. Horrific still and video camera. Timeless design, especially compared to the cookie cutter phones of this decade.
oh man, you're the food guy!
Robert Dyer Everything is squared with a notch.
The delorean was had a shitty ass design that no one bought and went out bankrupt cause the ceo was funding drug cartels for some blow, so check your facts before you comment something so cancerous
@@jonathanramirez232 The guts of the car and its company might have been flawed, but the cosmetic appearance of the Delorean is easily one of the best and most iconic sports car designs ever. And like the Razr, very futuristic in design.
What a great analogy.
Can’t believe a razr is considered retro.
We're getting old.
I mean, its not that surprising, however it did happen quick!
Well, considering 2020 is about a year and one week away and the Razr came out in 2003, it’s very much retro at this point.
Yeah I know what you mean with time flying, though the star tac has been retro for awhile now and it was about time the razr joined it.
The design is actually everlasting, not so with the features tho
Hahaha.... I remember!! It wasn't just how well they worked. They were almost a piece of jewelry, just a wonderful exercise in design and art.
I didn’t love the camera.
god that phone was so sexy. also that star tac phone was my very first phone.
The razor was like the first iPhone. If you had one you were from the future.
GenesisGENIUS it technically was the razor line was the first iTunes capable mp3 phones before Apple revealed that they made their own
AME TV yup the rocker and one phone before it
Yes it support itunes
back in the early 2000s if you were lucky to have any type of cell phone you would be considered to be pretty rich , during that time CD players were still in style don't remember lots of students pulling out a cell phone during 2003 in my high school.
Meanwhile in 2018, if you have an iPhone, you live in the past
I swear I will PAY some one to turn one of these 4G for me lol. They're ICONIC! Honestly, obsessed and I never got to own one :(
If you get the Razr V3xx you can still get service to work with it.
Can we do the sidekick next? That's the device I miss the most and wish I could still be able to use. That keyboard was 😍😍😍
Peter Benedetto the best phone ever in my opinion
The side kick was amazing. I just loved flipping that screen out
I loved that phone too. Unfortunately back then tmobile reception was awful where I lived. I'd buy it again now though.
My mom still uses her sidekick until this day. She loves that damn phone
YES. Want!
There are 2 designs that defined the 2000s.
The iPhone.
And the Razr.
That was an indestructible phone. I had one for years.
This was easily the best design for a flip phone ever, and it's up there with overall phone design as well. I remember I HAD to have the RAZR
Bring back this phone in 2019
Maybe with much better specs
it will not succes, the actual people who buy phones now are more interested on big screens with selfies cameras, not flipphones
@@lm_dccxl4078 But a flip phone can have an even larger screen and better camera lmao you have more room for internals idiot XD
I would jump on a slightly larger moto razr - I DESPISE not having a clamshell design!
DS, 3DS, RAZR - you can buy these products used and actually find a decent not destroyed screen!
@@joeygreathouse3029 companies are trying to make flip smart phones. I hope RAZR comes back with a modern update.
Samsung has one. Cost a kidney though.
i will totally buy it if it had whatsapp and some browsing capabilities.
i sold those for cingular in the mid 2000's the commission was ridiculous and these phones sold themselves! huge paychecks gave me a huge budget to woo my gf let her fall in love with me, and set up a foundation for my future family!
George Garcia I can believe that. At one point at around late ‘06 or ‘07 I can remember going out in public and seeing almost EVERYBODY using one.
So are you still with your gay life partner?
@@UKnowMeIMURDaddy he said gf not glf
@@angelaanaconda55 Yeah, he is hiding something in his closet and it ain't female
So money is the foundation of her love for you. It's like women don't love men they love what men can do for them. Hmmmm
My parents both used razrs all the way up until 2015. No joke. Every time they went into a Verizon store the people working there would completely geek out. It was like seeing a classic car driving around
that's actually so cool
@@Devanshkingofkings
The things were unbreakable, hinge still felt fantastic.
The only problem was they went through batteries pretty often, the battery would stop holding much of a charge every year or so.
@@Ryukachoo old era is always better than the new one in most cases
I'm kind of surprised and confused on how they got their Razrs to still work and have service considering the difference in technology at the time 🤔 actually nevermind, wireless carriers didn't start shutting down their older networks till the 2020s.
Two thousand and five I got my first one and it was a V3 Something but it looks exactly like as the one you were showing silver one, later on I had a black one and some other funky colours but before I got my first iPhone in 2007 this was the phone that I use for two years straight and I enjoyed really really enjoyed the design and ease of use of your device thank you so much for giving us this memories
Hello Moto is still stuck in my head! Great old days
This was my absolute favorite phone that i ever owned.
I worked for Cingular in 2004-5; This was debuted during the launch of the network after the AT&T name-change. i remember peoples eyes went wide when we told them, "Yeah, this phone costs $500." a guy who worked in the oil field actually returned his because he felt it was too indulgent of a buy.
I can still hear it on my mind when booting it up "HELLO MOTO"
I had one it broke in half it had Bluetooth still connected and I had my phone book memorized so I could still call people even without the display attached
Same here! Some nice speakerphone action :)
Same! Hahahaha
90s kids don't stop, we don't quit, we even can read books
same here.. it was rugged when it was closed but its weakness was when it was open and you held it between your ear and your shoulder; the hinge would overextend and break.. i broke my razr v2 and v3 this way LOL.
My favourite phone. I'd definitely take a look at a modern re-imagining!
Thanks Paul!! 16 year old me was mad flexin with that V3 back in the day 😍
Damn, those were the times
Was fortunate enough to have one of these in the past
Misleading title, saying this one guy designed it makes it seem like the guy is gonna be concieted but in the video he is very clear that he was on the design team, not singlehandedly responsible for the design of the phone. Props to him!
I loved my razr , still have it in fact I also really liked my razr 2 wish I still had that one... both where great phones at that time, great battery life , great reception and great looking..
I work for a carrier in the US, and people FONDLY remember this phone. We have a NOS example on display at the store and we hear stories all the time about the RAZR. I remember when I got mine, definitely was a status symbol in Middle School!
Shae Cowell I bought a brand new in the box ( well plastic thing prepaid phones come in) one of these for Verizon prepaid at an estate sale. I'm using it now as my second phone
I had a Razr for several years; longer than any other phone I’ve owned by a long shot. Even at the end when I finally caved in and got an iPhone (about five years ago), it still worked great and was/is the best looking flip phone on the market.
Love you man! Thank you so much ❤️
Why we lost all those interesting designs and creativity.
Now they are all just black uninteresting rectangles. And everyone is constantly staring at its personal rectangle.
Because having significantly different design from a competitor for a phone harms the user experience. If a phone has a metal back, rip wireless charging. Bigger bezels, rip screen size. But the software side is where all of the innovation happens.
Blame it on the big screen. There's barely any wiggle room to be creative in the design when the whole thing is just screen. Noone cares that much about the back either, most of us are using case.
*I also miss the old UA-cam days*
I love this! Do more retro episodes!!
My sister's friend's mom had one and that was the first time I saw one in person, 9 year old me was floored. Till this day it is one of the most iconic pieces of hardware I've ever seen in my entire life!
Watching this video on my Razr (in an alternative universe)
Now you can do so in this universe ;)
I miss these days, where you looked cool and special to have this phone and there was just simple texting no Facebook look at my kids bullshit.. those early 2000s were too quick for technology
I wanna go back so bad.
you were literally the coolest kid in school if you had a razr, I will never forget how cool they were at the time and how much I wanted one :)
I am more fond of the phone now than I was back when I actually owned it. The fatal flaw for me was that annoying beeping it made whenever the battery was low. It was maddening!
Nostalgia
I need a Motorola Razr shaped phone, with the features of a smartphone such as social media, and web surfing.
Don John it will one day good bye Iphone 📱
Look up phones with Kai OS. It's from Google and is being developed for feature phones. Feature phones (flip phones) are still popular in emerging markets (poorer countries) so apps will be ported to them.
This is cool, loved hearing this guy talk about his design. I had a (RED) edition razr for a couple years.
i remember my V3xx. loved that phone so much. i wish i still had it today. they could remake those phones with substantially updated specs.
Listen, Razr is LEGEND. I had it, but my dad misplaced it.
I owned one if it comes again gonna buy it
This was cool to see! My uncle was a project lead of some sort (don't know exactly) on the Razr. When he was travelling with the prototypes he had it in a suitcase handcuffed to his wrist haha. His name is Thomas Lynch.
This was the phone that everyone had in my school in the bronx before the sidekick, colors of all kinds everywhere. It was awesome
Razr V3XX for life!!!
I totally rocked a razor from 2005 up until 2012 when I finally had to jump ship....
Childhood's favourite phone...The looks were Super Awesome...
I use to own the Razor 2 and this started my Motorola journey. It's been 11 years now and I haven't gone to any other brand. Motorola forever 😍
This calls out my age bit I will say it anyways.....I remember buying 6 of these first one a t and t the next couple Cingular ( I kept snapping them in half by accident but on the positive side it still worked with just the bottom half you just had to use it on speaker phone ) then I had more from a t and t ( a t and t and Cingular were having a identity crises at that time ) the last one I had was a black one from either a t and t or T-MOBILE and after breaking it I bought the Nokia n95 8GB and never looked back.
If he wants to, he could build similar RAZR phone with bigger screen and Android.
I could imagine Motorola still owns the rights to the Razr name. It would be nice but it would have to be as cutting edge as the original. If they snap the name in any android phone like they did back in version people will get discouraged saying that they’re riding the name. It would be interesting tho.
@@Tubbytube6 agree. Clamshell Android is a niche and could potentially get fanbase
I believe Samsung still makes an Android clamshell phone for the South Korean market.
@@davcar23 in Japan too, they do love clamshell phone
I was thinking the same but then realized the design is too outdated and really there's no reason to make one. even if they do is really not going to be profitable for the company they would waste a lot of time resources to sell it at a cheap price, and there's a lot of competition and so many choices in the cellphone industry is not worth it.
The keypad was awesome!!!! And the closing sound was freaking nice!!
I still have my Razr. My highschool videos and photos are all still on there.
They should re-release it. I'll buy it
I had the Krazer. I was hot shit for about a week. Then new shit came out left and right. The chocolate phone, sidekick 2, etc... Love my krazer though. Miss it.
The chocolate!
I loved my Krazr and chocolate 2
My mom had a chocolate phone.
One kid at my school had a sidekick 2, everyone was jealous.
My favorite phone in high school. Loved the keypad lighting
That Razr was amazing! I finally got it with the V3m model. I loved it.
Miss you hello moto 😣😣😣
You can still here it on the Moto g line
They should relaunch this phone, the first one models, this is by far the most beautiful phone of all time, I want one even having a note 9, I easily could change my note for a modern razr version and I will be buying one for all my family. . Ohh that times!
Yeah.. This is a big opportunity for Legendary companies like MOTO, Nokia, Sony Ericsson to sell their iconic Old Devices with little improvements like 4G, Wifi, VoLTE, GPS, Good cameras etc. There is a whole market and huge fan base to be explored.
Personally I want to use an old phone like NOKIA N97 or N79. I only wish those phones had 4G and WiFi hotspot features and I could use whatsapp in these phones.
Edit ; and a slight change in design to make them little sleeker.
I still have this phone! Never threw it out when I upgraded.
it was my first cell phone that was slim, light, sturdy and matte finished. Absolutely I loved it.
4:24 Doug's brother?
A 1981 Volkswagen Scirocco his rich older brother
Same quirks, similar features...but what's the Doug Score?
Can we cool it down with the "retro" naming? I know it wasn't released yesterday, but this is still 2003. I no longer know what "retro" means.
Retro kinda just means old. I mean almost 20 years back could qualify as retro tbh.
That phone is still some impressive futuristic piece of design some 20 years later.
I just found mine the other day. It still looks and feels just as good as I remembered. I wonder if I can get a new sim card and get service on it still.
I remember having this Razr along with Sony Ericsson P90 that I bought from a friend. That time was awesome to have these phones because It was so unique. I love Nokia too but Motorola was kind of a rare gem back then.
I still have two of my Razr phones in black -- I loved them and they were a huge status symbol back then. I'll never get rid of them.
I had Motorola v3i
Still in love with it
My first fone oh god i love it and still keeping it. Thank you for amazing design and making beautiful histroy for a mobile phone and that was the golden era for a Motorolla it self. Oh that good old days.
man those old school cnet videos and revision3, total nostalgia.
As someone who always been on a tight budget I was so excited back in the day when the Moto Razr V3 hit AT&T's GoPhone service, I saved up a couple of paychecks, got it, put a $100 of time which was a years worth of service on that sucker, and used it proud for almost year 1/2 till I lost it in the Savanna river getting off a friend's boat onto their dock, and it was the first time my heart actually sank over a cell phone, loved it for what it was, but glad we have moved onto bigger, and better phones, but I still carry a Moto in my pocket being the Moto G 5+ with 64GB storage 4GB RAM, and a 64GB Micro SD card housed in a wallet case. Love it!
The font of text messages and typing is super awesome
I still have the phone and I kind of miss using it. High School memories...
Thank you Sir. You made alot of people happy with that design. I used to have one before. I can't remember what happened to it though. 😀👍
Still got mine in my desk. Still works.
This was my first phone ,back in the early 2010 ,even though it was slow in every aspect ,but its sleek design & an extra screen on the top was what attracted me
Oh I love this phone so much!
I had it when it came out. It was fast, comfortable, had an amazing screen.. everyone wanted it. Coolest thing back then
Found one at a yardsale for $5 in 2017, works perfect, even had original charger. I bought it as a novelty even though it is the hot pink version!
Wow...startac phone, now that brings back some memories...got one for Christmas ‘96.
Most beautiful Phone of all times in my opinion. I had two of them (V3 and V3i).
I remember growing up around the Razr. My mom has a Motorola Razr in the hot pink that they had. The phone looked absolutely space age compared to the other phones that were floating around at the time. Still a beautiful phone
The original razr was my first phone (the silver one) because it was a hand me down, the thing was great back then. Then funny enough my second was the refresh before the razr 2, and that thing was pretty awesome aswell. I still have them around in storage I think.
My favorite phone in high school. I remember going through 4 of them. It also has the best keypad ever.
I never had a Razr, I sort of remember them, but my first phone was the sidekick, I was so psyched to get that! XD
I still have mine. What a phone!
This guy was amazing its still running today.
Very cool. I made my Mom hang on to get 1st gen pink Razr. Now I wanna go find it and turn it on.
I remember buying this as soon as it was released in the UK; I believe it was October 2004. I took an empty credit card, and went straight to the store to buy an unlocked model.
The aluminium box with the sliding lid, predates any Apple products that gave satisfaction from the packaging. Hoping you can break the mould for us again somepoint in the near future.
My dad got a preowned V3, then eventually passed it on to me when he got a new phone. I loved this thing! The antenna went bad though and I was told to not bother fixing it :(
I had the Silver v3, loved it.
Still have my Razr somewhere, incredible phone, especially for its time.
My mom had it! Just awesome !!!
I still have this♥️
I'd say the design still holds up, absolutely iconic 👏
Epic phone! Epic episode!
My mom surprised me with this phone for my 15th birthday, it was the coolest piece of technology I had ever seen at that time in 2005! It’s crazy what we’ve got now, and I’m sure in another 13 years we will be saying the same about now...
