- This is quite a rare performance; they did not play this often.
I forgot to correct the speed, sorry.
00:00 - Intro
00:27 - Canon
01:34 - Once Upon A Time
04:55 - The Approaching Storm
11:27 - Man vs. Man: The End
About the same time as the concert was performed, I had a Chicago cover band outside of Philadelphia that played just about all of Elegy: Canon, Approaching Storm and Man vs. Man: The End. The only part we didn't play was Progress. That brought back a lot of memories. (wish we would have taped our performance, for posterity). Great to here a live version of it.
There's also Once Upon A Time, which is after Canon. Btw, did anyone read the poem at the beginning?
@@GenesisFan01 "When all the laughter dies in sorrow...." I LOVE that poem! Sadly, no one read it. The bars were usually noisy and no one would hear it. And we went from the Canon right into The Approaching Storm. Transcribing the horn parts on that was a challenge, especially because I had to keep dropping the needle at (hopefully) the right place in the song to catch the next phrase. Those were the days.....
Did a lot of Chicago back then (they used publish Sketch Score books of all their albums). I think I remember it sounding better than it probably did, which, 50 years later, is fine with me
Even with the speed issue in the beginning, this is a fantastic gem you have here! I thank you so much for posting this!
I love this tune so much. If this could be cleaned up with a noise filter... but I'm already thinking it doesn't matter. Oh to be back in time. They also played it at the DePaul University show, that's on my CTA rotation forever.
Anybody else cry when hearing Walt's beautiful flute?
Finally, Elegy live!
Should have been on Carnegie Hall record
It will be on the 50th anniversary release coming out soon.
