  • I finally got my copy of Assault Suits Valken by ‪@RetroBitGaming‬
I am quite excited to check it out and see what this new translation of a great Super Nintendo/Super Famicom game is all about! It is super cool that they are releasing games like this on good old physical cartridge

I really enjoyed this game. It was great that they released the remaster, although I think the sequel (Sega Saturn?) won't be getting the same treatment in the West.
The digital artbook has some gorgeous designs, and it was wonderful to see so much effort put into the lore and backstory of a SNES sidescroller mech shooter. I even bought two of the PLUM model kits.

It is more a re-translation than a remake. if anything it is closer to the Japanese version and has all the bleakness of the original, again just like Mobile Suit Gundam that is also bleak and bloody at times.
Now I want to check out the PlayStation 2 remake that I did not know about until now

Thank you. I actually studied Japanese in high school and got to spend a summer in Japan in 1994. That's one of the reasons why I have such a fascination with Japanese games of the '80s and '90s. I'm actually working on a video right now on a famicom games based on '80s anime. My former girlfriend used to refer to me as the "famicom guy" because I primarily collect Japanese versions of games and I probably have more super famicom and famicom games than anyone else in my entire city.

@@almeidachannel7121 absolutely. I'm glad that they updated the UA-cam app on my smart TV so I can use auto translate and Auto caption at the same time so it can translate Japanese yout retro video game videos for me.

Is it still possible to unlock the napalm weapon for the start of mission 2? Best weapon in the game!

I never got a "Gundam" vibe from this game.
For me, it seemed more liken to "Armored Troopers VOTOMS" if anything.

Well not to be a pedantic anime nerd but I am. Armored Trooper Votoms and Mobile Suit Gundam are both from Studio Sunrise. But Gundam was 1979 to 1980 and Votoms started in 1983. The two shows probably shared a lot of people that worked on both. I'm currently enjoying Gundam but I will have to watch Votoms next

@@8bitjoystick - Correct, but Assault Suits Vaken/Cybernator didn't come out until the mid-90's.
      (1994, I think?)
Which, even though I only became aware of the anime series afterwards,
is what led me to believe it took influence from VOTOMS,
(some anme buddies of mine that had already long known of the ATV series told me all about it, which then led me to connect the 2's similarities afterwards)
The game itself is actually part of an entire "Assault Suits" series of games, most of which never even came out in America.
Within the "Assault Suits" IP there are 2 title lines: "Leynos" and "Valken".
The 1st "Assault Suits Leynos" game was released stateside as "Target Earth" for the SEGA Genesis in the early 90's,
with the most recent "Assault Suits Leynos" coming out for the PS4 almost 10 years ago.
      (I have it, it's great)
Sadly the entire series seems to have ended here with only a total of 6 games
(3 "Leynos" games and 3 "Valken" games)
and no new "Assault Suits" games being made at all.

Question, how many copies did they make of this game? You had 487 out of what number produced?

I have no idea. According to the faq on their website The print run is based on the amount of pre-orders. It's going to be available at stores but That is more of a question for Retrobit.
I hope they make enough for people that want them because the game is rad
