Love the way that Michael Connelly's "Harry Bosch" noir detective books that are set in LA are really helping to bring back interest in the classic 1950s-60s jazz masters. He mentioned Christian Scott's name a couple of times...along with Coltrane and Chet Baker, etc.
Wow bosch brought me here but i have a musician now that i will follow. Bosch was one who introduced me great jazz musicians of an era long gone...thanks to michael connelly foe combining my love for stories with music
Man I was just listening to The Centennial Trilogy and wanted to revisit the moment I first heard Scott. There was such an electricity in the store that day.
I got to see Gabor Szabo at the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach, CA before he passed. He wrote Gypsy Queen, the second part to Black Magic Woman. Also, Larry Coryell did the song in 1971
Extremely personal and transparent composition. Christian's wailing trumpet solo over an insistent and incessant ostinato figure from the guitarist speaks of pain and loss with no apparent resolution. I wonder what the story behind this song was?
Good use of a the repeated notes on the guitar as drone. Hard to tastefully. Just playing one or two notes throughout an entire piece of music can be very difficult to right as simple as it sounds. It's even harder if it's not in the bass, in my opinion
***** "The only music people really need is the Star Spangled Banner and some good old Marine Corps Hymn." So all music is null except American patriotic and military songs? Are you that thick?

My thinking exactly. You said it so well. I bought "Anthem" and haven't come up for air since. This is Jazz for the 21st century, no doubt.
1st video I've seen on youtube with no dislikes, please humanity don't screw this one up.
Christian Scott one of the best jazz artist out today...Saw the band at the Roxy in Hollywood a couple of years ago. Got some good photos.
this piece of work is a beast!!!! damn love the solo's from this joint.
Yes! My thoughts exactly...
Peace. The reflection of one's past, thru the deep emotions of this music, brings joyful tears to the eyes.
came here because of Dune, enjoyed the music!
I like the post rock tinge amongst the awesome jazzness of it all. Pandora hipped this to me. Jazz keeps on evolving.
I think the term post-bop has been used to describe this music :)
One of my favorite trumpet players and greatest influences. Great vid!
Can you recomend me more trumpet players of this time?
On point, C Scott can't seem to miss.....the brother is brilliant....long live the music of the people.!!!
Christian Scott's horn evokes so much emotion! Wow! Just freaking mind blown! In a way he most definitely reminds me of Miles Davis.
Somber, yet beautiful. Excellent song.

Man I was just listening to The Centennial Trilogy and wanted to revisit the moment I first heard Scott. There was such an electricity in the store that day.

Awesome, the guitarist reminds me very much of young Larry Coryell and his predecessor Gabor Szabo of the Chico Hamilton Quintet.
I got to see Gabor Szabo at the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach, CA before he passed. He wrote Gypsy Queen, the second part to Black Magic Woman. Also, Larry Coryell did the song in 1971

The Best..................:)
This is talent your listening to... Gourmet music
Hey Miles it could be 14/8 because the guitar part cycles after two 7s back to one. Either way its awesome.
yea it is
He's my favorite I think I'm going to post a bid with me playing this song and I might post me playing void too
is the timing of the entire phrase 1 measure of 7/8 and 1 measure of 9/8. thats what it sounds and feels like. this is some serious stuff
starts just in 7..then switches to what you wrote for the guitar solo, then back to 7 for Christian...then back to 7&9 with the drums
Always
I must not fear
Fear is the mind killer

3:45 What was that?
Good question! A weird trill
3:47 no ? Weird, indeed. But not bad !!!
Sounds like a dissonant interval to me, he does that quite a lot. I think it's a minor second
Likee
Cools me down...

+David Juárez its's on his 2007 album "Anthem" www.amoeba.com/anthem-christian-scott/albums/825799/
@@amoeba Best version is the Newport Festival one. Breathtakingly beautiful.

Michael Connelly's "Harry Bosch" sure know how to pick 'em.
@saxophonebb No that's not rosenwinkel
Does anyone know who is playing guitar?
Matthew Stevens
+Devlin Flynn I'm pretty sure that's Matt Stevens - he plays with Esperanza Spalding now.
The camera man ain't a showin' JAMIRE! Whats the deal??!!!!!!!
@saxophonebb Pretty sure it's Matt Stevens. He's a monster guitarist, kindof like Pat Metheny meets Jimi Hendrix in one.
Fear is the mind killer...
fitting that this comes from the birthplace of Jazz...
whats the meaning of life???????
I know what you feel like

It should be illegal not to film Jamire Williams when he's ripping up his kit like that.
