The X10 as far as I know is not faster with any Mac, because it isn't a USB4 drive and Mac do not have the strange gen 2x2 protocol or what it is called. And I would recommend getting an enclosure like Zike or Hyperdrive, and put an NVME in there, that way you will get properly quick drives, faster than the internal of the 256GB mini and you can even move your home folder on to it, thus working mostly off that drive. That way you can pick the 256GB model, and rather get more RAM. But in general I would recommend to go for the Mac mini pro. If you are looking for a desktop computer, you are probably doing some more intensive tasks, and the M4 pro, is a big leap in performance, and that starts out with 512GB and 24GB RAM. And if someone makes an Thunderbolt 5 enclosure and you picked the M4 Pro you can move your external drive in to that, and possibly achieve faster speeds than the 512GB internal drive. Or if you get a thunderbolt 5 dock, connect two USB4 drives to the same port without any loss in speed compared to connecting to the USB4/Thunderbolt4 port of previous macs (and standard M4). I don't like how Apple configures their baseline computers, because 16GB of RAM means that when you push your system, the RAM will be a bottleneck for the M4 CPU. For me a modern computer with a capable cpu should offer at least 32GB of RAM, in particular when it is unified so the GPU uses it as well. And while 512 might be enough, there is no excuse for not putting 1TB in there. If Apple did that, they would concentrate a lot of the sales to the base configuration, thus increasing their margins on that specific specification. I don't really see any reason why they would not be able to offer a mac Mini m4 with 32GB of RAM and at the very least 512GB of storage for under 1000, and keep up the margins. They would sell more computers over all, because I know of people that holds off of switching to Apple because of how they have to add a lot of extra, and seemingly the Perceive value drops, due to Apples high add ons.
@@TheJonHolstein you’re right the X10 is same speed as the X9, I have both but I prefer the metal enclosure as I stated and it dissipates heat better and doesn’t slow down when it gets hot. There are things like Apple Pay, Unlock with Watch and a few more security things that don’t work off external boot. For the $10-$20 difference I can’t see buying another X9 for me. As an ex Apple Employee I know why the base is the base but 🤐🤐🤐🤐🤐😂🤣😂
I was waiting for this video before buying the M4. Would love to know which portable screen you were referencing in the video. And which capture card for the iPad to the M4 (same thing, was hoping someone would mention portability for the M4). Thanks much!
