Is there any video quality loss if using this LAN type connection vs using 3G-SDI cable type ? Cable distance around 30m (100foot). I am working on a set up and still undecided if I should use LAN cable just for the PTZ camera joystick controller and use 3G-SDI cable for video feed. Or should I simply use LAN only cable for everything? I need the most reliable and best video quality option.

Hi, whether streaming from the camera itself or a laptop the resolution quality will be the same. Your Network bandwidth is more crucial when live streaming or uploading a recorded video. SDI cabling is the professionals choice for reliability.
" The minimum required upload bandwidth for 1080p streaming is 5 Mbps, while the minimum 4K streaming bandwidth is around 25 Mbps"
There are settings in the camera you can adjust, such as resolutions and frame rates, also Audio. For the best audio tailoring options, its best to use a Software Program like OBS Studios or vMix where you have more control of the sound, especially when using mixers as the camera input is better for microphones. This would require the SDI or HDMI cabling along with a capture device. bzbgear.com/products/converters/video-capture-cards/

@@chrisgraham5510 Thanks! It is a church set up, we have been live streaming for a year, we just want to add two PTZ cameras to the set up and just needed to know the exact difference in between LAN/SDI cables. From all the info I could gather the SDI indeed seems to hold the best quality and reliability but if I choose this connection type I will also need the SDI-USB converters. If I can eliminate the converters and just have a straight connection using LAN that would be great. But not if I sacrifice image quality... Upload bandwidth it's not a issue, we are currently live stream on FB and quality it is only 720p...Our upload it's 50mgb so we could 4k livestream if Fb allowed...Sound it's not a issue, we have a nice mixer and all that we need and yes, we are already using OBS.

@@universeu7289 Welcome! Have you considered NDI technology? The only real way to avoid SDI cabling, especially if using more than 1 camera is purchasing NDI cameras. This technology replaced RTSP streaming which has low resolution and unreliable. We offer a couple of NDI camera options. Again though, SDI cabling is the most reliable, but NDI has really made leaps and bounds. How are you planning on mixing the cameras video? OBS supports NDI with a plugin download. You can use a capture card for your current camera, get two NDI cameras and use Digital mixing or purchase a Hardware switcher using SDI and HDMI Connections.

@@chrisgraham5510 That's a great switcher but due to low budget I am hopping we can get away without needing of adding one and do the switch from OBS or other software. Regarding NDI , yes I know about, I think it is a great option but again, due to the low budget the PTZ camera I have decided for doesn't have NDI. But it is very competitive priced at $700 , 1080p, with LAN, HDMI AND 3G-SDI connection plus controller connection, remote. As for the controller I will be getting the Leftek with 5" display.

@@universeu7289 I have not heard of Leftek, do they have a Website or tech support line? My experience is always make sure you can call the company when experiencing issues, if not it can be more hassle than the savings. Do me a favor, send me an email when you have time, we should be able to provide a quote that is close to your budget for much better equipment! Our BG-VPTZ-HSU3 camera is awesome, was $1399, now $999.00. Which camera were you looking at?
