The “love of freedom” alluded to is an anthropomorphism, my dog demonstrates more of that everyday when we’re getting ready to go for a walk. @@neraklh1017 all of nature is cruel by itself. While a sad reality, some animals have to suffer so we can keep developing as a species. (I'm talking about clinical trials and so on, not weird experiments they sometimes do). If we did not test on animals, most of the modern medicine simply wouldn't exist. A necessary evil I must say.

They don't know how to forage or hunt, and chimpanzee tribes don't take kindly to other chimpanzee groups entering their territory, more likely to beat them up or kill them than take them in.
@@NEOgeek402 Yep, that's the way we see it. But it's a whole new world for those chimps. Many of them didn't even know what sunlight and grass were before, they just sat in tiny metal cages all day long being tested on, probably in pain. Now they're eating fresh fruit under the sun, sitting in a group in the grass, playing all day long. They don't see it as a bigger cage. They probably see it as paradise, something they couldn't even imagine existed before.

Chimps actually smile like that as a threat display. Them grabbing each other (NOT "hugging" as so many wrongly assume) is also a sign of fear. They were initially afraid of their new surroundings! The actual cool part of the video is later, when they've relaxed enough to run around the new place without fear.
@@Megatron995 those grimaces are not limited to aggression. They are also an expression of fear or anxiety. Chimps react that way to most new things. And the hugging is definitely reassurance
The way they smile and hug each other, celebrating, oh God, how wonderful and sad at the same time...Why does this even go on? These poor animals, how they had to have suffered.

I wish humans would stop treating animals as things and let them live a free, safe life. You can see in their eyes how they have been through so much. It is heartbreaking. I am glad they get to experience freedom and happiness.

Free is possible. Safe is not. Unless we cage them all. Which, of course, is not only unrealistic and impossible, but also unjust.
I have ducks and their life expectancy is 4x as long in captivity as compared to when they live in the wild. I try give them a lot of space, a desirable environment, and indoor protection at night, when they are by far the most vulnerable. Are they happier living with me for 8-12 years as opposed to 2-3 in the wild? I cannot say. The question of balancing freedom vs safety. It's a big question in our human world right now. Do we hide away for a year or two, or who knows how long, on the small chance that we or someone we know dies from a disease, giving up significant moments in our precious, realistically short lives? Is it worth the trade off? I can answer that for myself, partly because I did the math and found that life expectancy for humans has only been altered by mere days, so I'd gladly give up a few months of life, let alone a few days, to have this year back. But is that the same for a ducks whose life could be many times as long? I don't know. I try my best to help give them a good life and we carry on a symbiotic relationship. Some creatures perform better in captivity than the wild, and others don't. I'm sure, even within many species, there are case by case scenarios, since they have individuality, as well.

It's refusal to participate in the parts of the system that are unsavory, to say the least. We must do more than to wait around for the system to change, we must remove ourselves as helpful consumerist participants that cause the machine to run smoothly.

Imagine the feeling of climbing a tree after all that time, I'm sure they feel it in their soul, like "yes this is where I'm supposed to be". The smell of grass, the texture of the trees, the open sky, suddenly it comes altogether. The cage is unnatural but they knew nothing else, only the actual experience of the outdoors makes them realize the miserable reality of the cage, but them being still animals they don't reflect much on it they just enjoy and embrace what they have now.

Even fluently. At least a lot of spiritual traditions believe it and even early Christianity accepted rebirth. I think only the church got rid of this concept to establish the
indulgences by threatening with eternal hell. This does not work with reincarnation. Of course not proven, but sounds quite reasonable to me. Always have to think of this when I see animal cruelty - or better the end of it, like here and big smiles.

rescue is the wrong word, they foster the chimps and the Austrian Pharma Company who "use" the chimps till 1997 build this enclosure and pay for the fostering.

The happiness when they’re running around hugging each other playing one of them climbing a tree and just knowing that everything’s gonna be OK now

All Truth, I was thinking the same thing!
In fact they were better looked after than they would have been in the wild - just isolated from the outside world and in some necessary cases, from other groups of the same species though I don't think they were in any way kept in individual isolation. They are all phenomenally fit.

This is so heartbreaking. And so enlightening at the same time.
It's so wonderful to see them being able to run in the sunlight, eat when they wish and no one coming to jab them with needles that might make them sick. It's just so sad that the ones taken from the wild were in prison when they committed no crime save for being what they are. The ones born in captivity don't know what they were missing except on an instinctive level.
Thank you for taking them in and letting them have a safe place where poachers won't be able to get at them.

thank god things are changing, seeing these animals in small cages is heart breaking, the damage this must have done to them along with the medical abuse is enough to put you off humans

same. I think it's a situation where no one person thinks its ok, but somehow we allow corporations to do it against our will.
But our treatment of animals is improving. 50 or 60 years ago animals were little better than objects. Old ways that are changing. (5/3/21)
