I have seen spheres generated by rotating stock in rotating table, while cutting with a fly cutter. The circle of the fly cutter generates a sphere on the rotating stock. But CNC came out pretty well!
Ciao!!! Domanda! saresti curioso di fresare un pezzo del modellino della macchina? Per esempio di un frontale della Alfa Giulia o di qualche altra macchina con le forme "ondulate"?
this machine you built is absolutely amazing. I recently put together a machine of my own (though not as good as this one😅) and was wondering where you get your end mill bits from?
What type of machine did you build? Large benchtop milling machine, with linear guideways and ballscrews? (Same as "Stef van Itterzon" did, but than with concrete?)
@@marson_cnc, was it hard to align the different guideways exact perpendicular to each other? What level of alignment did you obtained (in hunderds of millimeters per 100 mm)?
Not hard but time consuming, also i used a big granite square as a reference. The result is a tolerance of +- 0.01 mm on the entire lenght of the axis (squareness too), i’m very satisfied of that.

@Icarus AP : According to the title, this video is about testing a DIY CNC machine... what would be the point of making it on a lathe. 🤔 Making a hemisphere on a lathe is not necessarily faster or cheaper. If your lathe does not have CNC capabilty, or a spherical turning attachment, you are going to have to spend some money, or spend a lot of time trying to fudge it!

Great work , would please share the spindle motor's info , brand, power , reseller ....
Looks amazing! I was really hoping you’d turn your stock and do the full sphere though! That’s a challenge I remember my CNC teacher mentioning.
MRR of this thing is amazing considering it didn’t cost $100,000. I’d love to see more!

Much more rpm, optimal 15-16 thousands for this diameter
Yes, but this spindle has max torque at 24k rpm. At 15k it get stuck with a 0.6 mm Ae, with 24k it can do 1,5mm with the tool in the video.
