What a performer and what a fantastic band. My first musical love - drove my mother mad at first, but she loved Blueberry Hill ! Such a sad loss, but what a legacy he leaves.
Fats is one artist I haven't looked into. I remember liking his most popular songs, "Blueberry Hill" and "Ain't That a Shame" when I was little. My dad was an amazing musician and could imitate Fats, Loui Armstrong, and others, played bugle, piano, trumpet (his specialty), and clarinet --- basically anything he picked up!! I didn't realize I liked Fats' vocals so much until this video. I'm so grateful for youtube!
I was fortunate enough to see "The Fat Man" play live in 1986 here in Seattle, he was truly awesome! As an encore he literally belly-bumped his piano across the stage as he sang and played, not missing a single note! He was so outstanding to hear live.
On this day in 1962 {March 4th} Fats Domino performed his covered version of "Jambalaya" on the CBS-TV musical variety program, 'The Ed Sullivan Show'... At the time he had two other songs on Billboard's Top 100 chart, his "You Win Again" was at #44, and the record's B-side, "Ida Jane", was at #90... "Jambalaya" entered the Top 100 on Dec. 11th, 1961 at #63, four weeks later it would peak at #30 {for 1 week}and it spent seven weeks on the Top 100... The record's B-side, "I Hear You Knocking", also charted, it peaked at #67... Between 1952 and 1968 the New Orleans native had sixty-eight records on the Top 100 chart, ten made the Top 10 with his biggest hit being "Blueberry Hill", it peaked at #2 {for 3 weeks} on Billboard's Most Played by Jockeys chart, and for the three weeks it was at #2, the #1 record was "Singing The Blues" by Guy Mitchell... Antoine Domino Jr. passed away at the age of 89 on October 24th, 2017... May he R.I.P.
The daddy of rock, the daddy of soul, even the daddy of the shuffle.....I love you Fats and your friends .... every note is true...no licks, no tricks.....just your very BIG talent. Grew up on he Bayou, ate crawfish pie and jambalaya, while listening to Domino on the radio. A true entertainer in a segregated south, over all odds to live an extraordinary life!
I have seen Fats Domino and his Orchestra on march 14, 1985 in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. It was a amazing show. In my memory the stage turned from left to right throught te concerthall.
quel artiste....et quel orchestre de cuivre. 1971 à la salle pleyel à Paris ou il finit le concert en démémagant le piano avec son ventre.Quel beau souvenir
Wow- this is the first time I've seen Lee Allen on video- and yes, his largely unsung work was absolute poetry! I'm only grateful that Herb Hardesty, who played the breaks on most of Fats' hits is still blowing, and plays in New Orleans every year at JazzFest.
Batty My Irish-tush is wigglin' 🍀 IRISH AMERICAN ! Back around 1985 I saw Fats Domino and Rick Nelson in a concert in LA. Great concert, but unfortunately Rick met an untimely demise in a plane crash a few months later. Rick sang one of Fats tunes in the concert.
Another outstanding musician and great entertainer leaves us, for the orchestra in Heaven. Thanks for your wonderful music Fats, and for the fun times you gave us. Your music will live on. R.I.P.
And now he's been joined by the main writer of his hits (and often trumpet player in the band) Dave Bartholemew. I'd imagine posters are being printed off up in heaven for the reunion gig as I type this.
Fats and Hank, Hank and Fats!!! would have loved to have heard them perform together. Who knows what music would have come from it. And why not??? both of these good ole' boys were from Louisiana, and both knew exactly what they were singing about. So sorry to hear of your passing Fats. You were one of the great ones. Your music will live on. Don't know with did the remake??? but both guys did an excellent job. Most remakes are so butchered that the song is unrecognizable, but now matter what version you listen to, you know that the name of the song is Jambalaya.

One of his sons has been my customer for 20 years and I just found out Fats was his father last week. His son never mentioned it. Such a nice guy and he just didn't want to ride on his father's coat tails.
The extraordinary dance and theatrics was accomplished by WALTER SHANE KIMBLE who was an awesome tenor sax player. Walters performances added an entirely new dimension to Fat Domino's musical performances and were always greatly appreciated by the audiences. Walter was a member of Fats band for over 18 years.
+Allen Kimble Jr Thanks for the info. He was so exciting I was wondering who he was. At 3:36, you can hear Fats saying: " Get in Kimble ..... get in Kimble " and then he takes off. That was one helluva band !

Check out some Blasters vids. Lots of footage of Lee on some. Got to know him fairly well during those Blasters days-we shared more than a couple brandys at the bar. A sweet gentleman and a "saxophone colossus" ;) R.I.P. brother...
