Can't help but think what a great analogy this song is to football. Research actually shows that a lot of football pros after retiring either ended up depressed or bankrupt. That drastic change going from thousands of people chanting your name every single day as you run and win trophies for your club and country to suddenly nothing must be extremely hard. Which is why I think Cantona probably loves this song so much, he represents an era long gone, when everything seems much more exciting and you can live everyday like it's your last. But it's also a realisation that all parts of life is beautiful in its own way, and no matter how much you want to go back to the past you can't. It's relishing what's left now when the wine has finally aged, all the bittersweetness of it all, and realising that life is so worth living because you've done it all once.
I always think of the story of Liam getting bashed in the head with a hammer when he was in school. I imagine he took some damage then and if unattended, his brain was a bit mangled. Add the coke and other substances and its a perfect recipe for Liam having issues. He wears his soul on his sleeve unlike Mr Potato head.

This song fits so well with Cantona, or any sportsman who's lived in the spotlight but has now moved on and is left with the memories of their career. Although Eric did say once he put his medals in a plastic bag in a drawer and moved on as he didn't want to be defined by his past. But every player must dream of the days when they had 75,000 people singing your name, once.
Yeah, he did put his medals away and moved on. But Cantona, definitely maybe thinks of those times when the whole of Old Trafford was praising him, and to be honest? I still would sing his name.
@Yute Hube Absolutely, I'm one of them, but in terms of Eric walking on the pitch and playing, even Eric said was once, but I don't want to be defined by what I did before or I'm forever Eric the footballer. Still my favourite United player. Yours?

you are so correct, in my opinion. when a song manages to be everything, and so simple, its just takes my breathe away. plus the story behind Cantona paying for himself to be in the video etc. massively underrated song !
Such a emotional poetic and deep song this is my first time listening to Liam's solo and it's heart wrenching damn he still got that rock and roll in him
One of the classiest videos I’ve seen for years, irony, swagger, class and a fantastic song. Oh!Manchester...... oh! Manchester.... oh! Manchester is wonderful, it’s full of birds booze and......................
I dare say i sort of did not expect anything when Beady Eye broke up. But hey, R Kid Still has it, that old chap! Seeing him Portugal, at Rock in Rio... It Will sound strange, in that scenario.
The last rock n roll footballer, and the last rock n roll front-man. There's something about that Liam. I'd keep an eye on that one. And the director, nice one shot dude!
DavidEric1414 Noel has more talent, he wrote most of the bangers like live forever, slide away, wonder wall, master plan, don’t cry ur heart out... but Liam would steal the fame and the front man role, I say they are both equally capable of singing, Noel has better technique but Liam has a more distinguishable and unique sound. It’s a complex relationship and really no ones at fault, you can’t blame Noel for trying solo cuz he’s got the song writing where he wasn’t getting as much credit as he deserved in oasis, nor can you blame Liam for “stealing the fame” because he does deliver with his vocals. Seriously hope they do a tour before it’s too late.

Eric Cantona is such a special character in football history. I appreciate him a lot.
It ain't an oasis reunion but hey this is good!
This is even better 😀👍
Get over the oasis reunion and just enjoy the music. Both Gallagher brothers' solo work is very good.

I’m convinced this is Eric Cantona’s morning routine.
This song is like prime Oasis. It’s beautiful.
It’s very rare to find an instant classic song, this is that moment.
Totally agree, that chorus is legendary. Also the melody starts off like jealous guy and baby shark.
Dont think noel would agree brother
This is absolutely 100% oasis, love it
The king 🍺
I genuinely never would’ve thought Liam would have been the better artist......he’s killing it lately.
Got a ghost writer
Ryan Morgan - so?? So does everyone these days. That’s how you stay relevant. It’s a clever move and it’s not like he just gets people to write whole songs for him. He writes most of it and gets a bit of help with melodies and lyrics etc.
@@ryantmorgan91 The song is only as good as the person singing it
@@PSF1986 That is absolutely wrong, the history of music is full of legends who were shitty singers but great songwriters. People like Roger Waters, Bob Dylan, James Hetfield..
@@ichisanchi5334 I agreed until you wrote "most of it" because this is simply not true. Liam can only play few chords on guitar. How the hell he would compose drums, bass and violins?
The more I watch this, the more I think it's genius.
Noel: "so what do you say? You can't give me the dreams that are mine anyway..."
Liam: "I think it's true what they say that the dream is borrowed, you give it back tomorrow..."
Sublime!!!
Our time is on loan, only us to borrow
How did this song pass me by ? It's January 2024 and I've just heard it for the first time....WOW ! it's amazing 🤩 the best song I've heard from either of the Gallagher legends since the oasis days. (And the video with Eric is superb)
Have a look at "One of Us" ;)
For What It's Worth is a belter too
Liam has had some fantastic solo songs but, this is an absolute masterpiece
Same
Because it's not a good song 😂
You've gotta love Liam Gallagher for this, he knows how to have a laugh and not take himself too seriously.
"Once"
It was easier to have fun back when we had nothing
Nothing much to manage
Back when we were damaged
Sometimes the freedom we wanted feels so uncool
Just clean the pool
And send the kids to school
But oh, I remember how you used to shine, back then
You went down so easy like a glass of wine, my friend
When the dawn came up you felt so inspired to do it again
But it turns out you only get to do it once
I think it's true what they say that the dream is borrowed
You give it back tomorrow
Minus the sorrow
And the pain she just comes in to break up the daydream
Her knife edges waving
To keep from feeling the same thing
But oh, I remember how you used to shine, back then
You went down so easy like a glass of wine, my friend
When the dawn came up you felt so inspired to do it again
But it turns out you only get to do it once

Liam serving cantona. What a moment 😂😂
Is just rock n roll
FuckinLibertine true that man true that
This song fits so well with Cantona, or any sportsman who's lived in the spotlight but has now moved on and is left with the memories of their career.
75,000 people still sing his name every week nearly 30 years later.
@Yute Hube Absolutely, I'm one of them, but in terms of Eric walking on the pitch and playing, even Eric said was once, but I don't want to be defined by what I did before or I'm forever Eric the footballer. Still my favourite United player. Yours?
@@davidcottam7431 Maguire for me, epitomises what the modern club stands for in its entirety, I can't stand those plastic fans who mock him. He's by far the best player in our whole squad. What do you think?

Historically I'm a bigger fan of Noels music, but it has really been going down hill. This is so much better than his brothers recent outings
Noel has accelerated through Dad Rock into fully-fledged Sad Old Bastard Music. He's an irrelevance, and LG is hanging in there only by the skin of his teeth - thanks to this.
Both of their outputs have been pretty poor I agree, but I just discovered this song, and think it's epic
Andy Curtin I’m really surprised by how on-the-money this is.
I agree, Noel's well is running dry.
Fan of Noel's music...So Oasis
This is such a masterpiece....of lyrics and melody and such a clever and haunting video too. The location, the rooms all spent and empty from the finished party.......you look back at everything in your life.....you remember the wonderful and carefree younger years.....they dont last long....................nostalgia hits you right between the eyes and you know those old times are gone forever....
you are so correct, in my opinion. when a song manages to be everything, and so simple, its just takes my breathe away. plus the story behind Cantona paying for himself to be in the video etc. massively underrated song !
Yes. Such deep poetry wrapped up in a few short minutes- without pretending to know what Cantona thinks, I think he got this song he got it deep.
Such a emotional poetic and deep song this is my first time listening to Liam's solo and it's heart wrenching damn he still got that rock and roll in him

Liam has pulled off a master stroke with this. Fair play to him
Pure Masterpiece, this tune. It's a shame that Noel can't forgive his brother and make amends.
@Donnie V. you can't say that Liam didn't do anything wrong either
D333ZZZNUTS look at AC/DC. The frontman is the guitarist, but the singer only rights the vocals. Yet everybody knows him...
