Okay, loved the manly shedding of the jacket as Rich comes to rescue Fran from the winding hole. Well done. Well done, Fran for doing most of the work and well done, Rich for bringing it home. Go Team 👍🏻
When I see a thumbs down on one your videos, I think I really wouldn’t want the person who disliked your work as a neighbor. I’m totally on board with you two & give you a heartfelt thumbs up!
Hi there, I've recently discovered your channel and I'm really loving following your journey! I have never been on a narrow boat, but it's something my hubby is keen to get me to try for a holiday .... after watching your wonderful videos, I might just give it a go! You are such a lovely couple and I wish you all the best on your beautiful boat! (off to binge-watch now .... I should really be mowing the lawn, but who cares 😂) x
Lots of fond memories of barging on the Ashby, hiring from the Ahsby boat company. The canal looks to be a we bit longer than it was when we went on it. And the lack of locks makes it an easy cruise.
Really interesting, I could not help thinking of the "African Queen" with Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn when you had to pole the boat round in the winding hole, in fact the similarities of you pair on the boat and the film comes to mind more and more, so the Ashby canal will be known as the "Ulanga from here on in!!, and Charlie Allnut and Rosie, " how about a nice cup of tea Rosie old girl"?. Ha Ha.
Lovely video and I did wonder if many people went as far as the winding hole, last time I walked down there they'd got as far as the bridge footings I so should go and have a look now it's all done.
Hey Rich & Fran, it was so lovely and an absolute pleasure to have met you two the other day, I had the best 40th birthday I could of ever wished for, the Ashby canal is absolutely stunning.
This was a very relaxing trip. Good to see your twin, Rich. That must be fun to get together. Thanks for the update....Merry Ann from Minnesota. (Lived in Milton Keynes for four years.) Your videos bring back such nice memories. Love the birdsong.
That winding hole put fear into my heart as small as it is, great job Fran we don't have winding holes on the canals here in South Florida we have wait for where the canals Intersect to turn around. All the best from the swamp in Loxahatchee Florida.
now, shhh, don't tell your brother, Rich, but you're the better looking one! ;-) love how Fran got ya on the "light the morning fire" bit there! ha! and Fran, you were a pro on that winding hole! always a joy to watch your vids.
HI FRAN AND RICH ANOTHER FAB ULOUS VLOG BY AN INSPIRING COUPLE. KEEP UP TGE GREAT WORK WE HOPE TO MEET YOU ON THE CUT WHEN WE BEGIN OUR NEVERENDING JOURNEY THANK YOU MICHAELS DO INSPIRED BY RICH AND HUS DRONE WE NOW HAVE ONE CAN'T WAIT MICHAEL AND JENNY
Just lovely. Your production values are really beginning to look professional well done to you both. Oh yeah. In a previous Vlog, you Rich found some holes drilled into a willow tree with plastic stuffed into them, did you find out what that was all about?
Absolute super stars, Fran and Rich, stopping mid cruise for a chat... So good to see you both. Will definitely try and catch up with you for a beer on the weekend. Cheers to you both again.. Steve and Sue...🍷🍷
Lol love you two people. It's nice to see your taking your time and playing around and enjoying yourself on your way where ever it maybe.... I know a narrowboat that has so so many coal bags on there roof you may be able to get a couple of them.. Lol. 🎶😉. Have a lovely time what ever your up to. Talk soon
When you go on the Coventry again, remember Polesworth Manor and one of its recent and surprising owners from the music industry, and a cup of tea from the tea house a little farther up.
Hi rich/fran Loved the video no matter how many vlogs you see about the ashby everyone looks so happy Magical canal Great manouver at the end 9 out of 10 looking forward to next one
I’ve been thinking of doing the Ashby and you’ve convinced me that it’s a good prospect and the Battlefield Line is a bonus. I’d need about two weeks, so must see when I can fit it in. That was a tight winding circle but I expect the water level was low or the silt was high! Take care Alan x
Another excellent video 😊 love you guys laughing at getting stuck (been there and got the T-shirt) you’re so good together 😀 be careful when you jump such a big gap Rich! Don’t get wet. Keep up the great work 👍🏻👍🏻
@11.17, i see a rope draped over the solar panel. solar panels don't like sharp shadows across them, it can damage some of the junctions as they are reverse biased.
One of my favorite couples.... and thumbs down to anyone not liking the vlogs. Maybe make a mount to hold cam.. and show just the tip of the front of your boat to give a feeling of( POV )site ..
Hi guys we started following you only a week ago and have enjoyed watching your "journey" with both interest and laughter... now about to watch episode 50.. God anyone would think we had nothing more to better to do, we are ourselves looking at purchasing a narrowboat and visited 3 marinas over the weekend.. would you be good enough to please tell me what camera you are using to film these episodes.. Kev & Jan
Hi Kev and Jan. We are so pleased you have found our chanel and are enjoying watching us. On this episode we were using Sony a6000 and a GoPro Hero7 but have since started using a Canon m50. Hope this helps.Good luck with finding your own boat x
Hi Rich, Fran That's great thank you so much.. hope that you're enjoying the Manchester area and not having issues with the "oiks" unless you have moved on "poitering" elsewhere lol .. have a great Christmas guys.. be safe x
Great video. I only had a 45 boat but still turned before the swing bridge! When you mentioned that you wanted to do work on the boat I thought “it’s a shame his brother’s not there”. Then he popped up! Not sure if he did help but I think he has in the past. Thanks as always for sharing a lovely video. I can’t wait to see the progress on the boat. Do you allow dogs (3 medium dogs!) at your cottage on ABNB? Or AirBnB! Clear to see we’re looking at boats!!
Hi Sylvia - this is a different brother, the other brother is too busy looking for a narrowboat of his own now!! Anyway i got him to do all the hard work :) Yes dogs welcome at the cottage (ABNB hahah) xx
@@FloatingOurBoat Thanks. I've watched every video. I have to mute the music bits with that humming guitar tune that keeps playing . The rest of the video is great though.
Another entertaining episode. Big changes to the time I was on the Ashby. Most noticeable, there are other boats. I only passed two boats moving and NONE at moorings. This would be about 1997.

That looked like an accomplished, no-drama turn to me. A little bit of team-work from the bow doesn't detract from it either, and seems like an adequate alternative to bow-thrusters. I've just been reading a Tom Rolt account of the Ashby from about 70 years ago. It has been a favourite canal for many, it seems, over the decades.
Hi Fran. The book is "Narrow Boat" by L.T.C. Rolt, published by The History Press in GB. There are many editions of this book available. The one I bought online through Abe Books (abebooks.co.uk) is the 70th anniversary edition (2014), ISBN 9780750960618. It is more expensive than 2nd-hand copies of older editions but contains lots of interesting photos that were not in the earlier editions. I'm only halfway through it right now but I'm a slow reader and enjoying savouring every word. (Amazingly, you can pick up early edition used copies of this book on abebooks.co.uk for less than £2 freight-free in the UK).
Thank you so much for enabling me to send an extra contribution to the Ashby association as you in the film i saw today made it to Snarestone.
Fran does everything 😂😂😂

Ha ha, never noticed that about Rich and his jacket before!!
Fran, ten points about the fire and coffee.
My favourite video yet! That’s where mom and me fancy starting off with a boat. Can’t decide marina or continuous.

that was one tight winding hole you would struggle with a 6o foot boat...
