Awesome! To watch a true craftsman at work, everything has a purpose. I watched sections of this many times. Watch the special process of quenching the edge of the axe. The edge is only heated to a red heat, then it is quenched (just the tip) in oil (see the smoke), then fully quenched in water (next tank). If we did a full metallurgical hardness survey we would see changes in hardness from edge to center and differences in grain structure. Just an old guy making an axe? If you can't tell the differences go sit with the other apprentices until you get it.

Вот вспомнил. Товарищ-кузнец пригласил на работу. Я в то время занят был, отказался. Через какое то время нужда заставила, позвонил. Спросил, уак насчет работы. Петр ответил, что сын ему сказал:"Бать, что я, тебя не прокормлю, что ли?" И он бросил работу получает пенсию и сын помогает! Надеюсь, мастер кует не от нужды, а от любви к искусству. Здоровья!
если присмотреться когда мастер шлифовал топор в перчатках, то перчатки швами наружу, это намного комфортнее. У нас же везде в продаже перчатки швами внутрь, я сам их выворачиваю обратно.
Уже лет десять пользуюсь колуном этого мастера , правда мой чуть по больше , но всё как положено с таким же клеймом и полосками, друг подарил . но топорище переделал , Оригинальное как вы заметили просто как палка в руках не удержать , без утолщения в окончании . Но дрова колоть им хорошо.

I was a professional blacksmith for years, specialized in 18th century Knives and belt axes Most of the axes I forge welded out of 3 pieces of wrought iron ( old buggy wheels) and a steel ( broken file) bit welded in for cutting edge I did everything by hand no power hammers Made the handles to of course

It makes idea to have like a wire that is magnet grasp(to it) like if to get hit by a weapon, if get to wire it around first then magnet as defence to push away(or take) weapon. Magnet can become stronger by voltage and coiled copper. There's a part looks like "if any weapon will come close dangerously". Usually if normal life like imagine swords and big axe, thinking what can get to coil it from far in defence. Just sharing.
Different Product selling by craftsman & business man. Business man focus on lower the cost to get higher profit. Craftsman focus on increasing their skill for selling better to customers. That's why in old japan rank of job were rate by Samurai＞ craftsman> farmer>business men.

外航の機関長をしながら趣味で鍛冶をやってるけど海外のUA-camrのまねはできてもやっぱり日本の職人さんの技は真似できない。悔しいと共に尊敬します
本職に趣味が敵うのは類稀なる才能と本職に引けを取らない研鑽ぐらいだと思います。
