ePropulsion 2021 Navy 6.0 EVO Electric Outboard Motor {Unboxing, Install and UNBIASED Review}

- SUPER EXCITED!! I've been researching this for a long time and finally decided to purchase this ePropulsion electric outboard motor. I made this move because the majority of lakes and very large reservoirs I fish are restricted to electric outboard motors only. So this epropulsion outboard motor will allow me to run my jon boat to more places than I've been able to access before and do it quickly. I'll be doing an epropulsion navy 6.0 review, as well as an unboxing and on the water test. I'll also show you how I installed the big 48v E-175 lithium battery on my jon boat. In the end I will give you an unbiased review of what I like and don't like about this motor. Enjoy this video.

Hey Bass Brother, dude, bro! I'll tell you what, no kidding, this is the absolutely best video on electric outboards I have ever heard, thank you! You covered the pros and cons, ins and outs, up and down... Just great job, man... Cheers Mate, all top stuff... 🙏🙏🙏 God bless you brother! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks. Appreciate the feedback. Glad you got some good info out of this video.
WOW! That was the most honest, detailed review I have ever seen on youtube. Great information.
Thanks 🤙🏾👍🏾
Thank you for sharing your passion with us. I'm just vacuuming up ideas for my own jon boat to bass boat conversion, and have enjoyed several of your videos.
Thanks Michael. Appreciate the feedback 🤙🏾

Yea man. Awesome motor.
Great review! Tons of useful information in a 20 min video.
Thanks. Appreciate the feedback 🤙🏾👍🏾
Nice job, very informative. I appreciate that. I am new to boating and fishing and would like to switch over to Electric in the coming years if I stick with it.
This and other videos really help. So thanks again for putting it he work in.
Great channel and great information. Will definitely be binge watching for a while !!!
Awesome. Thanks for watching and Welcome to the channel.
Great video and very informative. Professionally done.
Thanks.
Great review...thx for all the detail...well done. Happy Fishing!
Thanks. 👍🏾🤙🏾
Great review! I've been considering going big with an electric and this helps. Like you said, the biggest thing is the battery power. Thanks for the review again
👍🏾🤙🏾
I was really glad to hear you talk about your feeling that the motor is simply too deep in the water and thus slowing you down. I have a Torqeedo Cruise 12.0 on my 15' pontoon and I'm getting the same speed you are. I'm convinced a jack plate will give me better speed!
Having used the jack plate for a few months now I feel it's not giving me more speed. In fact I feel like the prop level is where it's supposed to be based on the shaft length requirements on the ePropulsion web site. For me I may need to move the battery further towards the front/middle of the boat and also try to lighten the overall weight of my boat. I plan to do an update video on this motor soon to give more details and feedback from using this motor.
@@BassBrothersFishingDMV I was talking to a Torqeedo rep today and that was exactly his advice. Get the weight forward on the boat. Not really an option for me with a Pontoon as the batteries need to be where they are already.
Nope wast off mony.

Great video and a nice fishing boat.
Great review thanks for sharing
Great job telling us about everything 👏
Thanks.
This looks freakin awesome. wow.. just saw the ending.. man, I love this. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks Vance.
Why do people spend 12k on a motor that does 10mph? 10mph is actually exaggerating
Very well done - Thank You!
😎👍
It's very impressive to heavy for me lol enjoy your awesome motor on the water
Great video, very informative. Thank you.
Thanks 👍🏾🤙🏾
Im sold on that motor !! Great Vid !
Thanks. The motor is awesome. Extremely reliable.
Super cool setup, thanks for sharing! I wonder if running a small rollup solar panel would be useful for folks that want to charge while out on the water. The rollup style might just be nice because you can tuck it out of the way when the boat is being tailored.
Thanks. I'll check it out.
Thanks for this unbiased review from unboxing to the water. Annapolis Hybrid Marine is a reliable ePropulsion dealer for many years.

Brilliant video. Great music...
Thanks.
Damn dude this is EXACTLY what I’ve been wanting to do! Thanks 🙏
All good. 👍🏾
Cool motor. Thanks for the video.
🤙🏾👍🏾
When you said the battery pack weighed 200 pound and then you were going to stick it all the way in the back. I was yelling NOooo. Apparently you didn't hear me...lol .. Maybe your cords weren't long enough but I thought, in the middle of the boat would have been where I would have put it. Anyway, great video.
The middle would be more ideal but I would have to completely customize the boat over again which I may do anyway in the next tear or two.
ThisTrolley motor is very easy to use , light weight, I would Definitely buy this again if needed , Motor is very dependable , I give it five stars
Excellent video - thanks!

Such a killer setup dude thanks for doing this and then sharing as well awesome 👍
You know, ppl have said to me '..yeah I'd go electric but if you go full speed it won't last long..'
Those same guys with gas motor do NOT go full speed everywhere either. lol
Cheers and thanks again this is dedication.
So true lol. No one drives their boat full speed all day. At least not to fish.
@@BassBrothersFishingDMV thanks so much for reply it's a big deal I know you're busy...
I wonder if you would ever do a simple explanation of swapping out lead acid for LifePo batteries in a boat generally...like how to size the system, consider solar upgrades for future...etc.
I have a hard time finding that guidance for my purpose bit bigger boat.
I will watch your vids regardless if you do or not 😁
Would love to see one of these on a SIB
I was surprised you put the battery at the back, I would have put it forward, under the deck near the bow, but maybe you have a live bait tank there? Nice clean install 👍🏼
Enclosed battery: will heat during charging or operation be a problem? Particularly as it is highly insulated by the flotation foam.
Love your video 😊
I am glade it's yours.
Nice video and review. I'm looking to put in the Epropulsion Navy 6.0 on a sailboat for an extended cruise (solar panel charge system). Thanks again for the review and info.

Nice....thanks !
Awesome review!
Thanks
Nice set up for sure! Ya I would agree with you, probably going to need to get a jack plate. It would suck to have to pull everything back apart, although the deficiency would be much increased. Happy fishing!
I did install the jack late and it hasn't consistently increased my speed. I still like having it for the ability to rase the motor up and down in shallow water and at the boat ramp.
This is sick… must be scary to dig into your boat like that! Major props! (Lol). I like how you talk about the issue of the battery power on electric motors. And your video got me thinking, is there some way to harness some solar to help the battery retain some of its life? My thought is by putting some panels on the tops of the lids in the stern, and maybe some area in the bow, or maybe even on the side panels of the boat, absorbing light reflection off the water. I think the biggest issue is battery size, and the consequences of the added weight. I think trying to make electric motors just as good as a gas motor is, it would benefit us greatly, by keeping more money in our pocket, and it could help to stop polluting lakes, and keeping fish population a bit healthier. I’m excited for the future man, thanks for helping to bring it!!!
Thanks man. Appreciate the feedback!!!
We roll with 1000 watts of solar and we can go all day! If you manage everything correctly, you can get back to the dock at 100%. It's awesome!
That battery pack isn’t liquid cooled so you may want to look into setting up some air cooling. You mounted that in essentially a thermally insulated box which will not allow it to cool very well reducing the life span and overall efficiency. The last thing you want is a fire on board.
Great stuff, very interesting package and set up. Have you considered installing a rotating pole mast at the bow of your boat as an auxiliary power source? On days with favourable wind speed, your boat will possibly pickup a speed greater than the motor, and charge the battery at the same time. Just a thought.
Thanks. I'll look into it.
thats a really fancy setup especially the battery system!
my one thought is it needs a cavitation plate to give thrust a way to stay low I bet youll find a big improvement in range and performance, tight lines man!
Thanks. You may be on to something there.
Nice motor. Be careful on Rocky Gorge/ Triadelphia- The hp limit on electrics was 3 hp, they may have changed that. I saw your video where you launched at Supplee and ran all the way up Rocky Gorge past the Rt.29 Bridge, it was impressive. When I ran a 24 volt MinnKota with 45 lbs of thrust, as long as it wasn't super windy I could make it up just past the 29 Bridge and back to the ramp at Scotts Cove. Had a lot of fun fishing the reservoirs, I had good days and i had bad days where the bass would or wouldn't cooperate. Keep posting your videos from your trips there, I watch them and it's like going home again.
Awesome Mike. I don't see HP limits on electric anymore thankfully. Can't wait to get back out to the gorge this season. Last season was rough there hopefully this season will be better.
@@BassBrothersFishingDMV Well, Rocky Gorge will be busy this season, they are doing a dredging operation on Triadelphia and all the boat ramps will be closed but there will still be a couple of the sites where you can shore fish. Good luck this year, hopefully I can get back to Maryland and fish Rocky Gorge this year.

If they offered a longer power cable you could mount the battery farther forward, which might give you more speed due to better weight distribution, although you'd lose some power to increased resistance.
Great timing on the comment. I actually was thinking about that today. I may still do it but I'd need to pretty much redo my boat conversion to move the battery forward in the boat.
Loved it!
Thanks.
Nice video. The weight and time it holds charge would be my biggest concerns, but it sounds like it's working for your needs. Thanks for sharing the info.
It's working out great for me. Thanks for watching.
Awesome video enjoy my brother
Thanks man
that motor is an interesting option
Awesome upgrade.. 200lb battery! Yeah I hear you on that point..
Thanks.
Nice boat.
9.9 HPin the headline, is equivalent to about 7.5 Kwatts, before inefficiencies. that's about 31 amps at 240V, 62 amps at 120, 156 amps at 48 volts, over 300 amps at 24 volts.
Just what is the battery and controller?
First time watching, like your content ,I'll be a r regular
Thanks Keith. Welcome to our channel.
Cool vid man. Off topic, but you might want to put some struts across the top sections of your garage doors. Sometimes your automatic openers will bend and crack that top panel without them.
👍🏾🤙🏾
Did you move the trolling motor battery up front, for better weight distribution? Very cool motor and video !!
The trolling motor battery has always been up front. I do have one battery in the back for everything else. I might move that up front but it's Lithium and very light weight
Nice rig!
🤙🏾👍🏾
Hi there I'll be going on Liberty reservoir. I have been following you from other Boat builds Helping out your friends excellent job.. I have a buddy that live on Swan Creek on Potomac . I told him to check you out.. he just bought a John boat.. So as we was moving the weight around.. It was too much weight and the back so we put the gas tank in the middle.. the troller motor Up front.. And we did do a Jack plate. That helped.. The next thing is is to put the metal boxes on the back left and right.. That should give us more power and lower the front Bow You can get on plan and watch the waves better... that battery should be in the middle... For the reverse and Forward need to just put a metal Or rubber to reduce vibration To take up that Is 1" or 2" adjustment..
Thanks for the awesome tips
Keep up the good work.. I want to see you start doing some crappie fishing 🎣
Ok will do
Great video! What height is your boat’s transom? Thanks!
15"
THX for the great video. Just curious about temperature control on the battery since it looks like it's stuffed in. I assume you have to allow for ventilation? Did you have to make some channels or have you noticed any heating issues?
No heating issues so far. So far so good.
Man, ditch the distracting background music and I'm subbing and watching all day long.
i would leave the prop at that depth in the water...better performance dude. I'm doing the same thing with the same product in the UK. I just bought a 1955 (Cary Grant style) aluminium river boat. Great video, subscribed.
Thanks Rich. This comment is very timely. I did install the jack plate to raise the motor up but the performance hasn't changed. I think the long shaft it intentional for this motor. I will probably take the jacker off at some point.
Enjoy your channel and videos - i fish Rocky and Tridelphia mostly too.
Thinking about upgrading motor - how fast can you go with the 9.9hp - saw video with epropulsion and one with Elco, thx
Epropulsion averages around 8mph on my boat.
@@BassBrothersFishingDMV is that slower, or faster than your mercury 9.9, and also whats the run time?
A 330 watt 4'X6' solar panel mounted as a canopy will give you unlimited power. My friend has three mounted on his jon boat and gets over 1,000 watts of power! He gets 5mph all day long with only one deep cycle RV battery!
Gid fi r vyiu too
Nice video. I'm looking to buy this motor next spring but i will build my own lithium 48v battery using cells. A 12kwh one will cost me less than 2k$ for about the same 200 lbs. To be use on a 14ft inflatable boat. Should be a nice fit.
Thanks. Sounds like an awesome project. Make sure you are running 125amps for this motor.

Just got a 12’ G3 for Liberty. Have a 55lb thrust Minn Kota. I would love to do an electric outboard at some point. Sucks we can’t just use a regular motor. NY State let’s you use gas on the reservoirs but they put a under 10 horsepower limit on most of them. Would be so much more convenient.
I TOTALLY agree with you. That would be awesome and makes sense.

The looks of the motor was one thing I had been on the fence about it. But seeing it on your boat it does look pretty slick. Have you thought about putting a customize paint job on your boat?
Its an awesome motor. At some point I will paint the boat. Just gotta find a color I really like.
Hey bud! Long time!! I’m liking the rig even more now! Given anymore thought to doing builds for others? Being “commissioned” so to speak? I’d love a set up like that but I don’t have the patience to make it happen!
Hey man. I actually started doing jon boat conversions for hire. Let me know if you want me to do your build. The off season is the perfect time.
@@BassBrothersFishingDMV I’d certainly be interested, how in depth do you go?
@@amals51 message me your questions at Bass Brothers Fishing DMV on Instagram or Facebook so I can understand more about what you want done.
Hi There. Great video. Sorry if you have said this in a previous video but how much do you think your boat weights without the motor and battery?
Honestly I'm not sure. I have no issues with tipping or balance. The boat rides well and is super stable. If I had to do it over I would try using 1/16" angle aluminum and lighter sub floor sheeting to cut down on weight even more.
Looking forward to some new fishing vids on those electric only waters. Hope you can figure some work arounds on the short shaft length to get you some more speed.
It's coming. Got some awesome content on the way.

I bet it's not much harder to install a little plug in outlet on the corner of that front deck and inverter there that way you can plug in some solar panels to charge the batteries while you're doing all that
That might work

Desde España me parece una pasada
ive watched a few of these DIY electric boat motor setups. something i haven't heard discussed, and maybe i've missed it, is what are the safety features of the setup, considering the fact that water and electricty can be a bad combination. the battery panel and cabling don't look like they have much in the way of watertight connections etc. if you swamped the boat a smidge on a rough day and ended up with a few inches of water sloshing around in the back of the boat, what are the dangers with that ?
The battery has a water resistance rating but it cannot be submerged in water.
Nice review FYI 4x100ah LiFePO4 would only be 5760wh while the battery you purchased is 8960wh which is why it weighs more.

i know its too late for this but here is an idea for charger. mount it into a waterproof toolbox or cooler . you can store the charging cord and anything else you need in it . on long trips you can take it with you on short trips you can leave it in you vehicle.
Not a bad idea. 👍🏾
That's a huge heavy battery. I like the idea of the E Motor though. Do you find the front of the boat sticks out of the water more with you and the battery in the back? I look forward to seeing what you do. Tight Lines!!!
Not when I'm fishing but the front lifts up some when I'm running to boat at full speed. It's a pretty wide boat so the back sits very flat while I'm fishing.
Nice job. You might move the batter more mid section.
Yea that might help. I would have to redo my boat though. 😫
they got the solar charger adapter you can use so can charge while using the motor.
I might have to look into that. So far I've run all the way down just once.
As soon as I saw that battery I was worried about weight. That's a chunky battery for sure. Would it be possible to mount it further in the boat for better weight balance? Congrats on the killer new engine though, electric power is awesome.
I may play round with location with the limited options I have.
Thank you for the video.
I'm interested in buying a Navy 6 and it would be helpful to know the weight of your boat after the install.
It's heavy lol.
buy it
This is a terrific setup. I am considering a build. I live southern Maryland and looking for a short range, quiet, easy to operate solution to crab, hunt and fish on my creek. Would love to see this boat in operation. This is a much better solution than running a gas engine, love it. Nice work. Do you think this could work for a Grizzly 1754 Jon? I wonder if that's too much boat for this power. I'm certainly not looking for speed, just a few miles of range and moderate speed.
It should be a good option. I've seen this motor work on a variety of boats. They even have a newer model out that's works more efficiently
Hey there 👋
You mentioned you didn't like the way the motor sounds and drops down!
Most types of motors with direct shaft drive are gonna act that way because the design works very much like a starter motor on your cars engine. The action, if you will, needs to engage and disengage with the vertical drive shaft so it can basically start or stop the request you asked it to do!
Otherwise one of the gears at the top and bottom of the shaft will be stressed far too much and Fail or the vertical shaft will eventually warp or break!
I hope my explanation helps you understand why that happens!
In Order for the manufacturer to lower the noise and movement they'd need to add a few parts along with a different type of motor function which would drive the cost up considerably, and then your purchase will also have more parts to wear out or fail!
My personal opinion is that the manufacturer has offered a product that is very quiet and quite Durable and Reliable with minimal downtime and repair costs to their customers!
I've been involved in mechanical design and fabrication for over 30 years so I don't think I'm to far off with my description.
If the manufacturer says something completely different, I'd be very happy if you would get in touch with me! My experience with that industry has also told me that you're only limiting your personal ability if you refuse to expand and open your mind every single day!
Anyway, I've babbled on longer than I intended, but I truly hope I've helped you!
Great Channel, Keep it up please! 👍 🙏
Thanks for the info. I do plan to contact the manufacturer at some point to inquire why the motor rocks back and forth when going from forward to reverse. Other than that I've realized that the prop sits very low by design for a short shaft. Raising the motor up reduces the performance. I was expecting the electric motor design to function like a gas motor. I believe with the large prop require the shaft to be longer.
It is just play in the clamp mechanism.
@@Centerboarder you are right. I checked it out and that's exactly what it is. They need to improve that.
Definitely need a Jack plate and trim
Did you think about putting the battery more towards the front of the the boat, I've heard this would increased your speed.
I thought about it. I think that would help but I would probably need to do allot of customization to my boat to do it. I might pull the battery out and move it closer to the front to see how much faster I can go without installing it.
they also sell 48v100amp batterys 100amp bms but you buy 2 hook up in parralel you have 200amp bms and 48v200amp battery each battery is 48kg
Yea I looked into that. Eprop 48v motors require 125amp batteries
I've had my epropulsion spirit 1.0 plus for a year. My only issue with it is that the propeller is a vegetation magnet. I have to pull the weeds off by hand too often. I have a little 30 lb thrust minn kota that rarely traps weeds and if it does, I just put it in reverse and the weeds kick off. Does this weed problem happen to anyone else? Also, I have not been able to find that epropulsion sells a weedless propeller. Any possible suggestions\solutions would be appreciated. Thank you
Hi Freddie, I have the same issue. We also have the Spirit Plus. When we run the boat through underwater forests it is completely cluttered. Very annoying.
Ditto with Navy 6.0 EVO. Super annoying!
you need a cavitation plate as well if you get the jack plate.
I'll look into that.
That’s true but if a longer the boat there’s a lot more power loss if your put batteries in front
@@yallvotedthismansin4170 good point

Yes, EPropulsion offers solar connectors that you can connect your E-Series batteries to solar panels. I happen to be a dealer for Epropulsion in Alberta, Canada. Great product
Is it electronic shifting?
get 2 24v200amp batterys they have 8s250amp bms each battery

HOW LONG IS THE BATTERY CABLE? THANK YOU.
I believe the entire length motor to battery is around 4 feet long

I was surprised that you installed battery in stern and not midships being 200lbs. Their short shaft was more than likely designed for v hull and not flat bottom. But I understand stern install could have been because of cable length. But definitely raise the motor. Think of solar charging for longer run time or even wind turbine.
Great point. At the time it was my best option to install it at the rear of the boat. I do have plans to move it to the middle of the boat once I can get to it.

Stick around. I got the jack plate and will be installing it soon and posting a video.
Thanks man, I have been wondering if we can get electric drive to go fast⚡️. Did raising the motor help?

Epropulsion have got no idea when it comes to outboard shaft lengths. How does it go tilting up with the big chunky motor at the bottom of the leg?
Yea. I don't understand why the short shaft is so long.
@@BassBrothersFishingDMV It didn’t look too long given the dia of the prop?
@@NiceTriGuy it's longer than the recommended length. I think if I had a tall transom it would be a perfect fit.
@@BassBrothersFishingDMV its way to long. You place it next to a petrol outboard. line up the top of the prop and the epropulsion is 3-4 inches lower. This is because you have chinese engineeers who know nothing about boating designing outboards
